Barack Obama has said he will not campaign for any Democratic congressmen who fails to support health care reform.
The president will refuse to make fund-raising visits during November elections to any district whose representative has not backed the bill.
A one-night presidential appearance can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds which would otherwise take months to accumulate through cold-calling by campaign volunteers.
Mr Obama's threat came as the year-long debate over his signature domestic policy entered its final week.
Mr Obama is personally telephoning congressmen who are still on the fence this week, in between several personal appearances devoted toward swinging public opinion.
Yesterday he visited Strongsville, Ohio, home of cancer patient Natoma Canfield, who wrote to the president she gave up her health insurance after it rose to $8,500 (£5,600) a year. Mr Obama repeatedly has cited the letter he received from the self-employed cleaning worker to illustrate the urgency of reform.
Though Congress has already ignored several deadlines set by the president, March 21 is being treated by all sides the final target date, at which time all options would have been exhausted. The president has postponed an overseas trip by three days to see reform through.

Yeah, I'm not so sure that threat means much. Most of the no-voting Dems come from districts where Lord Zero isn't all that popular , anyway.

I was about to say, given his track record thus far, this would be a bad thing for the Blue Dogs be-cause......

It shall be interesting to see where he cherry-picks his spots around the campaign trail this fall.

Hi,
I am chuckling to myself on this one. When I was in 8th grade (a long time ago) boys were forced to take "boys chorus". Now most 8th grade boys voives likely changed about six octives per sentence in those days.
Well come the end of the year we were forced to sing a song which had a long slow melody which real singers struggle with and we were terrible. Our signing teacher warned us at our last practice, "Now if you boys don't show up to sing at baccaularate, you don't get to sing at graduation."
That was the best music to our ears we heard all year. About 1/2 of us did not show up.
BO's threat might be welcome news to more folks than he realizes.

PS: In thinking about this issue, notice the word "threaten" once again. Yesterday's Dick Morris letter mentioned that word and how Pelsoi is using threats in the house constantly to keep folks in line. If the health care bill does not pass then Pelosi and BO become impotent with their threats.

BO WON'T give certain Dems the kiss of death? Bet you can tell who they are by which ones are walking around the Rayburn Building with shit-eating grins on their faces.

Looking at his track record in VA, NJ, and MA that may not be such a bad thing. It's also a total BS lie if the alternative is the seat going to a Republican, and everyone knows it.

This reminds me of Al Bundy punishing the kids not by leaving them out of the will, but by putting them in the will.
Or, if Obama really wanted to punish these democrats, he should threaten to campaign for them instead of withholding his support.

One of the Missouri congresscritters avoided Lord Zero like the plague when he showed up recently in St. Louis to campaign for HCR.

Reminds me of Jake and Elwood threatening Mr. Fabulous that if he doesn't rejoin the band, they'll come to the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

With enemies like that, who needs friends?

Reminds me of Jake and Elwood threatening Mr. Fabulous that if he doesn't rejoin the band, they'll come to the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
Ah yes. Alan Rubin. Jake and Elwood did a marvelous job in trashing that restaurant. :rotf:
