It's PI(e) Day on Sunday (3.14) - what kind are you baking???
after which a photograph of a pie
Sunday is Pi Day, 3.14, the annual celebration of that great irrational number, PI, one of the most important constants used by mathematics, science and engineering. What's the circumference of a cicle? Diameter x pi. What's the area of a circle? The radius squared x pi. What's pi? A number that (so far as we can know) continues out to infinity - 3.14593. To date, the decimal has been calculated out into the trillions
What's PI Day? In 2009, the US Congress declared March 14 to be "National PI Day". Celebrations and rememberences are taking place all over the country in educational and commercial venues. Prime ( ) among them is the 2010 PI Day Bake-off

So... what you kind of pie are YOU making to celebrate PI Day? I'm thinking of Crack Pie as an effort to encourage those mathematicians to finally, once and for all, crack the PI code and find the end to that irrational number!
Remembering what it was like to be in college!
"Pi" reminds franksolich what it was like to be in.....fifth grade.

2. Rosie brought a hundred pound container of cashews home from Costco
so maybe this Chocolate Cashew pie
after which a photograph of a piece of pie
INGREDIENTS
Crust
1 box Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
Filling
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup cashew halves
Topping
10 whole cashews
Whipped cream, if desired
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 325°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One-Crust Filled Pie.
2. In large bowl, beat corn syrup, sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs with wire whisk until well blended. Reserve 2 tablespoons chocolate chips for topping; stir remaining chips and 1 cup cashews into corn syrup mixture. Pour into crust-lined pie plate, spreading evenly.
3. Bake 45 to 55 minutes or until pie is deep golden brown and filling is set, covering crust edge with strips of foil after 15 to 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning. Cool completely, about 2 1/2 hours.
4. Meanwhile, cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. In small microwavable bowl, microwave reserved 2 tablespoons chocolate chips uncovered on High 45 to 60 seconds or until chips can be stirred smooth. Dip each whole cashew into chocolate; place on cookie sheet. Refrigerate until chocolate is set, 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Just before serving, garnish pie with whipped cream and chocolate-dipped cashews. Cover and refrigerate any remaining pie.

I'm also working at a lb bag of fresh spinach. That store is dangerous!

4. A HUNDRED pound container of cashews?????
Oh my goodness!
You could always do some Cashew Chicken Salad with some of spinach but wow, it would take me a lifetime (or maybe 2) to make use of 100 lbs of cashews! What all are you doing with them?
The pie looks delicious! I love those chocolate-dipped cashews!

5. Well, it may only be 50 or 5 lbs but it's BIG.
My mom claims to be 5'1" and everything she brings home from CostCo looks bigger than she is.
-
A hundred pounds of cashews would not fit inside Mom's little camping trailer. Five pounds will take up all her storage space. And where did the money come for those expensive nuts? Is Beth tapping into the muslim's stash, or is she on Yugo's dole? Last week they were dining on ketchup packets.
-
She doesn't know the difference between 5, 50 or 100 pounds?
Did someone say Crack Pie?? Since their DUmmies, we have to take that literally I think.

One thing that gets my goat about Doug's ex-wife is her occasional references to her maternal ancestress as "Rosie," as if either (a) they're best pals, not mother-daughter or (b) Doug's ex-wife secretly sees her mother as a pet rather than a person.
There's a good reason the 6th Commandment, about honoring one's parents, exists; if one is incapable of respecting one's parents, one is incapable of self-respect.
I suspect Doug's ex-wife, like the truemud primitive and some other primitives, is just hanging around Mom, impatiently waiting for her to die, so she can get the cash.

And the cashews frank. Let's not forget the incredible bounty of nuts. Oh wait, that's all of DU isn't it. :-)

I don't think Rosie's demise is going to be very lucrative. If she had any liquid assets, it's unlikely she would be jammed into that little camper with poor stupid Beth, her two big smelly dogs, and (maybe, maybe not) her mentally ill son. The used Airstream is very old, according to Beth, maybe worth a few hundred bucks. The abandoned goat farm may be worth something someday, but today, after the California real estate crash, it's virtually worthless, or else Rosie would have liquidated it and bought a place to live. And poor stupid Beth will likely have to share what little inheritence she gets with her crazy brother, plus any sane siblings she may have. So, she'll get a fraction of what the camper brings on Craig's list and a bunch of cashews, and then have to find a place to live. Maybe her siblings will allow her to keep the trailer, since it's worth very little, but I doubt it, since she seems to have been perpetually at war with her family.
Poor stupid Beth's best bet for making money would be to run her kid's drug dealing business while he's in the slammer, but she's way, way too stupid to ever run a business.
