Title: Short Weekend
Post by: NHSparky on March 13, 2010, 06:06:02 AM
Don't forget to set your clocks forward tonight kids!

And on a "happy" note (yes, that was sarcasm):

... HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAY HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

LOOK FOR EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS TO INCREASE LATE THIS AFTERNOON... AND BECOME GUSTY THIS EVENING. AS LOW PRESSURE TRACKS SOUTH OF THE AREA... WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH ARE POSSIBLE LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT. SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH... OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR STRONGER MAY OCCUR. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

Here we go again!!!

So much for the yardwork today.  Guess my work schedule just got a lot shorter, since the laundry, vacuuming, and dusting is already done.  That leaves me with kitchen and dining room floor, or about 15 minutes worth of work.

Thanks for the reminder.  I had forgotten all about it.

Went out and bought a new grill as I prefer to do a lot of outdoor cooking. So.......... I have my project for today/ this weekend. This one has stainless steel grates.

I almost chose this one, but the actual grill area seemed a bit small. This one had cast iron grates. It was a tough decision:

Gigging tonight on tuba and bass trombone with the 9th Street Philharmonic in Columbia, MO. (http://www.9spo.org/). It's the Italians versus the Germans in opera.

Ride of the Valkyries is on the horizon, which is the most challenging thing on the program pour moi.

The tenor and soprano soloists are truly stunning singers. I say this knowing that I can't stomach opera longer than 20 minutes without  :puke:

Wind has been blowing like an SOB (but not as bad as two weeks ago) all night.  Started off as snow, but turned to rain around midnight.  The REALLY heavy rain is supposed to be coming in later today.  Wind is still around 25-30 mph with gusts to 40, and might pick up some more later this afternoon.

Didn't win the Powerball, dammit.  Got to go to work tomorrow.

I won $3 on the Powerball last night.

Someone somewhere won the big jackpot, so now it's down to $20 million.

Rain, a little bit chilly, but no wind, here this morning.

Waiting on my tree removal dude to tell me how much I am going to have to spend to have my POS Mulberry removed, before it breaks off into big bits, ripping through my power line, and busting up my roof.  Woot.

Yeah, thanks for the reminder.  I showed the pic of the pine that fell across the road during the storm a couple of weeks ago.  While the town cleared the tree from the road, the "stump" just got shoved up high enough so it wasn't impeding the road.  Problem is, this "stump" is about 2 feet in diameter, at least 15 feet high, and leaning over such that another good rainstorm (like the one we have today) might cause it to fall again.

I called the town offices on Friday since the tree is in the easement and technically their issue, but if I don't hear from them I'll have to borrow a chainsaw and start hacking away at this beast.  Can't really afford to have someone take it down right now, because the last major storm we had with downed trees 3 years ago, they wanted $350/hour for a crew to come out (but fortunately it was only 1 1/2 hours they charged me.)  Basically, if the town won't do it, it's up to me.  Such is life.

$350 per hour???  Wow.  I just got quoted $700 for the full removal and stump grinding.  It would have been less, but it is going to take about 3+ hours to grind the stump.  It is HUGE.

Like I said, it was a five-man crew to take out the tree.  It might have even cost me more than the $500 had I not let them keep the wood.

There was a tree along the driveway of the house I was renting in NC that split in half and fell on somebody's car.  I thought I had pictures of it somewhere but I'll have to go find them.  The slumlord landlord had some of her workers come and chop the tree up... it made a ton of wood, all of it was dense and heavy.  A two-foot section of trunk was easily over 200 pounds.  Don't know what she ever did with the wood, but hey -- free wood.

Mixed some chorizo with ground beef and made some hamburgers out of it today.  Not a good idea; very sausage-y.

Sitting in Alexandria, VA waiting for the hockey game to come on. At 10... again...

Tomorrow, my camera and I are heading into DC for the day. Today was the Yorktown battlefield. Very cool. I'll have to come back up here when I have more than a day to visit.

I hate this time change...3:30 am and I'm still awake.... :( Fell asleep about 11 in the chair watching tv...woke up and midnight...and now I can't sleep... :thatsright:

We go to 7:30 Mass on Sundays. The priest was greeting people at the door as we came in. He said Good Morning to us and I told him it was still the middle of the night.

When the Mass started, he said "Good Morning....I want to thank you all for coming to the 6:30 am Mass"....

How can anybody, that's sober, sing at that time of the night...uh, morning?  :clueless:

Off to try to go to sleep....I have a closing at 9:30!   :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

ka-CHING!   :cheersmate:

Closing happened!!!  :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Met with my Thursday catering client and finalized the menu and she agreed on my choices for napkins, plates and balloons, so I was able to go purchase them and order the balloons.  :hi5:

Then lost my two best listings. After last week's screw up, the same secretary called to schedule a showing tomorrow, and my client asked if it was the same agent as that didn't show last week. Her response...."I have no idea who it is"..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: All she had to do was look at the f'g showing list! Sent my client over the edge and she withdrew the listings. She's going to try to rent them....herself.  :(

Then another investor called and I'm meeting with them tomorrow to pick properties to look at. They want enough to generate $2k or more a month.  :-)

Yes....I am on a roller coaster of emotions today...and hormones aren't even involved....  :thatsright:

I think I need a nap....I ended up only sleeping about 2 hours..... :bawl:

Nighty-night!

You probably didn't want that client who quit anyway.....and after she beats her own head against the wall trying to rent, she'll understand that there's a REASON that real estate agents exist.

Nighty-night!

She's a dear friend. Just hung up from talking to her, and I understand why she's doing what she is. She's frustrated with the market (like a whole bunch of people are!) and the secretary's attitude just hit her really wrong today.

The last 3 showings have fallen through at the last minute, after she has cleaned the house (3 dogs and a cat, 3 adult kids) and rousted the kids out. If I make an appointment to show a house, and the house is occupied....and I get there with buyers and they decide they don't want to see it....at the very least I will run in and do a quick run through in order to give an opinion back to the agent on the usual seller questions - price, condition, etc. I figure the homeowner has gone to the trouble to prepare the house for the potential buyer, and I owe them the respect of at least looking at their home, however briefly, as it would be very upsetting to me if I had gone to the trouble to get the house ready, and the buyer refused to go in. When presented that way, the buyer will go in with me. In 13 years, I've only had one or two wait in the car. Most people are too curious to not go in an look. Besides...sometimes it's appropriate to guilt another person into doing something.  :-)

My office manager called a bit ago, and said she would talk to the secretary this afternoon. That made me at least feel like she wasn't blowing me off when I brought it up to her. I baby my clients. I treat them the way I would like to be treated, and my office knows that and knows that if there is the least little issue....they are to call me and I...not them...will deal with it. Flip answers or ignoring a situation is not acceptable under any circumstances!
