Wow. I'm screening resumes... and some thoughts...
My little company has an opening for a Visual Basic analyst (to help develop and finish what our original VB guy did). It's a simple little contract job to finish this project. So I'm looking at some resume to screen out the unqualified. But man, did I find a doozy, and I kind of feel bad for this guy.
He worked in Best Buy Geek Squad while going to college since 2005.
I'm trying to figure out what part of Geek Squad did he learn how to be a Visual Basic specialist on a complicated project?
Maybe I'm wrong, but all these people do is identify problems and fix computers, or even throw in a memory chips or upgrade HD, etc. Charging people $125 by the hour and taking home, what, maybe 12.50/hour if he's lucky and letting Best Buy pocket the rest of the profits.
Just. Wow.
(a bit biased, because I'm working in a similar field, and I can provide the same thing for $50/hour and quickly too! Just started a business doing this way)

1. Maybe he read a book while he was working at Best Buy. Maybe he Took a course?
You just admitted he was going to COLLEGE
Your post sounds like you aren't aware people learn things from places OTHER than their employers.

3. Hahaha. What a jerk, thinking he's one of the worthy!
I'm a guy not qualified to do a job that I'm mocking somebody else for not being qualified for. And he's the jerk in all of this. Funny world!
Ouch!

4. What was his major in college? Comp Sci? Engineering or Science?
And under what circumstances did he leave Best Buy?

8. It's simple
At Best Buy, he:
Looked at computers. --> Visual
The problems were usually simple. --> Basic.
Ergo, Visual Basic.
Heh, heh. I wouldn't let Geek Squad touch one of my computers.

9. Yeah, that may be a shot in the dark on his part,...
...but it's not like he wrote that he was fired from Dairy Queen for putting his balls in the hot fudge.
Is that what you put on your unemployment claim? That was ballsy.
Not much there.

That Deep13 is a nasty cuss.
Hawkeye-X is very arrogant and he loves to brag about everything.
It would be sweet just to see some geek squad kid walk all over him.

Oh my yes.
The cross-eyed Iowa primitive, now living in Denver, likes to imagine himself a "bad" one.
It's the cross-eyed Iowa primitive who's always threatened to "take down" anti-Skins's island web-sites, but thus far his record's.....zero.
He's a big round beach-ball-shaped guy, eyeglasses, about 40 years of age; allegedly suffers from progressive hearing loss, allegedly is of Hebraic derivation, allegedly a cancer survivor, allegedly an ex-convict, and allegedly affluent enough to "donate" to every and any Democrat, liberal, and primitive candidate or cause.
A "bad" one, he is.

Visual Basic? Puh-leeze.
It's pretty much the most simple computer language in any kind of use these days, and it's not in use very much.

The world will stop without Hawkeye-X.....we're doomed if anything should happen to him......don't believe? Just ask Hawkeye-X.

Actually it is VB.NET and Microsoft's versions of C++ which is C# (Sharp), XML, and a port from JAVA. With that said though, because of the numerous advanced VB.NET libraries, all ne needs to do is install Visual Studio, learn to navigate the IDE and use the INFINITE MSDN ( Microsoft Development Network) resources and grandma can become a "VB guru" in as little as three months. You can find free example code for EVERY VB application develoment requirement known to mankind. Of course you would need an IQ above 62 and the ability to read at a 6th level soooo, a DUmmy would face challenges there.

Yeah the older brother of one of my sons' homeschool buddies taught a bunch of them Basic and C++ when he was home from college for the summer. The youngest kid in the group was 9 and the oldest was 16.

It looks like DUmmy Hawkeye-X isn't the only one getting resumes from comically unqualified dorks:

16. Applied again for the 10th time.
10th time a charm?
I last moderated in 2002. That was 8 years ago.
Lord Marblehead would probably jump at the chance to get a Geek Squad kid signed up as a moderator.
Maybe DUmmy Hawkeye-X will get an application from DUmmy TwixVoy. The job at the air port fell through, and I'm sure DUmmy Hawkeye-X doesn't discriminate against illegal drug users.
-
Maybe Twixvoy could get a job at the Laundry Mat emptying out the quarters.
I echo all your thoughts on VB. I tried my hand at it once for something, and it wasn't rocket science.
Man, they sure love to eat their own over there. Yesterday, there was a gigantic thread about healthcare mandates (I can't make ends meet now! How am I going to afford that!!!!) TwilightGardener got reamed a new one, because her husband was military so they get free government healthcare. They tore her from limb to limb. Mainly because she doesn't have trouble making ends meet, and can't see the trouble. It wasn't fun enough to bring over here, though.

Well, Karin, that's what the disloyal thing gets for consorting with the enemy in the first place.
