so my husband got fired last Thursday...so you know what we did tonight? this may sound a little weird.
but we took all of his work shirts with the company logo and burned them in the back yard.
very therapeutic.
And now we're toasting it with Dublin Dr. Pepper.
We heard the customers are mad since my husband was fired. Life is good.
Why was he fired if he was so liked by the customers ?

What if they rehire him ? Because of all the customer love ? What will he wear ? Pants and no shirt ? What am I talking about. Of course they won't rehire him. They're probably toasting over at the job too because he's finally gone.

4. Good for you! Once when I got laid off, I bought a large sack of crabs and a case of beer on the way home, and had a party till it was all gone. Enjoy life - **** the bosses.

9. we sort of did that on Saturday.
I made him go to the Irish Festival with me...I demanded that he have a good time, and drink beer! and so we did!
Saturday took the edge off...but tonight was cathartic.
and yes, that old boss can go f' himself.
Go ahead and laugh, get giddy on Dr. Pepper, have a few beers, eat well because when that check doesn't show up anymore, you will be telling your husband what a stupid ass he was for losing his job.

anyone here familiar with getting legal help...and how do you file for COBRA?
Long story short....
sent a document to a lawyer to look over...yesterday morning.
How long should I wait before I know he can help or will get back with us?
I know the guy, but don't want to be a pest. He's reliable...that's not what I'm worried about.
I sent an email this morning asking him to call if he has any questions.
There is a HUGE deadline for next week to get this document back to my husband's former employer.
We were hoping to have this resolved by this Friday, just so we an stop thinking about it.
How often should I call the lawyer, and how long does it take for them to get back with you?
I'll see this lawyer on Thursday in a completely different context...I just have never needed a lawyer before, and don't know how to handle this.
Also, I've read through the government website for COBRA, but it's not clear to me how to proceed.
Do I just call up my DH former employer and ask them to start the process?

he's got severance for two months, where they will continue to pay for health benefits...
should I go ahead and tell them that we will want to start cobra after that time?
my mother suggested I call the insurance company and find out who is servicing the plan...she said sometimes it's not the company...is that true?
She said that she would pay the money directly to the insurance company to make sure they got the money....
can you do that?
Does HR tell me how much the premium will be?
I don't trust them...so how do I know they are giving me correct information?

10. Mrs. Brady, I'm curious about the "lawyer" portion of your question...
My guess is that the company is requiring your DH to sign a termination agreement where he agrees not to sue the company for any employment related matters. I am also guessing that they will refuse his severance if he does not sign.
Is this what you are having the lawyer review?

My husband's getting screwed and taken advantage of...and in a perfect world we would sue....he was fired over such BS.
we just don't have time and can't risk not having insurance.
it's a long story, and don't want to put the whole thing on the internet, just in case.
in any event....we will have to sign, I just wanted to make sure that I'm not giving up my first born...
because they are making us give up so much already. Since they fired him, they don't have to pay him as much as they would if they were to lay him off.
His boss lied about things and made up stuff so that he could fire my husband instead of laying him off.
They laid off a few other people in other cities...but my husband is the only one that was "fired".
DH is having surgery monday, won't be able to work for a while...his boss knew this, and is being vindictive just because he could.
How do I know this? That's another long story.
My husband loved his job, and the a-hole just moved to headquarters. We thought he was gone, but fired my DH through the brand new manager anyway.
The company pissed off a large big-name you would recognize customer when they fired my husband, so that makes us feel a little better.
It's never their fault. Someone's always out to get them. Notice the company made a big name customer mad but big name customer didn't stop dealing with the company over the firing. I guess the big name company didn't care as much as they thought.

I wouldn't say you're lucky. Winning the lottery is lucky. Losing your job is stupid. Not in this Obama economy it's not lucky. Your husband will be lucky if he finds another job.

No kiddin--aren't those McD's uniforms mostly polyester? I mean, they were when I worked there in HS.

That's the way it works for my job. Uniforms are optional, and the company supplies them for those that want them, but if someone quits they have to turn their uniforms in, or a certain amount of money is withheld from their last check.

She's gonna love it when she sees how much the COBRA coverage costs.
Probably around $900/month just for the two of them, higher if they have kids.
Too bad they just missed Obumbles gift of 1/3 COBRA payments - IF her stupid husband had gotten fired by 2/28.

Had to google it -- apparently it's a Dr. Pepper made with cane sugar not HFCS. And the bottler is in Dublin, TX.

I had it for 18 months, years ago after I quit Talbots. I have to admit...as bad as people told me the cost would be, I had great coverage (I had a $7000 lumpectomy that cost me $250 because the surgeon charged more than what the insurance company thought reasonable) , and when I had to switch to single coverage, the payment was much higher and the coverage much less.

COBRA is not a deal. I don't know why some people think it is, it's absolutely cost-prohibitive when you lose your job.
I thought Dublin Dr. Pepper was just that you added Irish whiskey to it. That would be an um interesting combo.

I may have been able to keep mine past the 18 mos, but it was such incredible coverage, there was no way I could have afforded it as it was for employees. At the time, Talbot's had over 6000 employees, so it was a great policy. Preventative testing - mammograms, stress tests, even colonoscopies - had no chage to the employee. There were also about 15-20 outpatient surgeries that also had no charge....lumpectomies were in that category. I had to pay extra on mine, because the surgeon had the pathologist come into the OR and do some additional checking causing the surgery to last an extra 45 minutes. ::)
I can't remember the name of the company I ended up going with - it wasn't Golden Rule, but the other one. It was really expensive because I'd had 3 lumpectomies by that time. After 5 years I was able to go with BCBS and it was better and cheaper. Cheaper being a relative term.

Been to a couple of going-away parties like that over the years...everyone was invited except the person who was leaving, or held after they were safely gone forever...

EarthFare will not sell anything with HFCS...has to be real sugar. Which is why I figured they would sell that kind of Dr Pepper.
