Mayor plans to relocate poor residents to “downsize†Detroit
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 01:48 AM by Hannah Bell
With the backing of the Obama administration, including a $40 million federal award for “renewal work,†Bing is embarking on a plan to expel poor residents from “desolate†neighborhoods and supposedly relocate them to more “stable†areas.
According to the Detroit News, the Democratic Party-aligned “Brookings Institution, local foundation leaders, several national funding groups and the White House offered financial support of up to $100 million a year for downsizing the city...â€
Bing said he would use internal and outside studies to determine who the “winners and losers†would be. “If we can incentivize some of the folks that are in those desolate areas, they can get a better situation. If they stay where they are I absolutely cannot give them all the services that they require...â€
This makes it clear that the mayor and Bobb are working in tandem to shut down services, including public schools, in the poorest neighborhoods and channel money into areas where only better-off segments of the population will be able to afford to live. In the end, this will mean driving the poor out of the city. To where, would be anyone’s guess... <snip>
In addition to other business interests, there is little doubt that Bing’s downsizing plans have the backing of DTE Energy, whose CEO Anthony Earley was one of the mayor’s campaign fundraisers. Shutting down large portions of the city would reduce the cost of maintaining power and gas lines and give the company’s “Revenue Protection Department†a smaller area to patrol when it comes to discontinuing service for non-payment or for those who have jerry-rigged electrical service in a desperate attempt to maintain heat for their families in the winter.
According to press reports, the Brookings Institution in a recent study identified another 50 cities besides Detroit, including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Memphis, which need to “shrink.†In Michigan, the former center of GM’s manufacturing empire, the city of Flint is planning similar measures in a plan overseen by former Democratic congressman Dale Kildee.

3. I'll bet those poor residents didn't expect this kind of CHANGE they could believe in.
It keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?
Hey - a novel approach to the poor -- kick them the hell out. Let someone else deal with them.

27. did you see the picture i posted? what is it about that border that makes
property on one side "attractive" & "viable" & property on the other "unattractive" & "non-viable"?
they're two feet apart.
She is referring to an aerial view of a portion of Detoit with an arrow pointing westward, labeled "Detroit" and an arrow pointing eastward, labeled "Grosse Point Park". What makes it viable, I guess, is a plethora of taxPAYERS, vs. taxCONSUMERS.

I don't see what the problem is. Detroit has a shrinking population but the area that is served by the municipal government is staying the same. That is a prescription for failure.

Kansas City, Missouri, is debating closing half of its schools.
Back in the 1960s, Kansas City public schools had circa 75,000 students.
Now they have circa 18,000, but more schools than they did, in the 1960s.
One wonders what a certain dysmenopausal primitive thinks about that.

There was a thread on the DUmp about that, but at the time she hadn't posted anything in it.

I wondered. At times I looked for a campfire on the issue, but didn't run into one.

I spent some of my formative years romping around Detroit. I think it's a great idea, though, I do understand many who will be forced to move will have strong ties to their current homes.
Hasn't Flint, MI been proposing the same thing for a while now?
-
Yet not one single DUmbass has figured out that Detroit has to inevitably happen to liberal/progressive government.

They may have less than one-quarter the students than in the '60s, but I guarantee they have as many, or more, people working in the school system. I remember not long ago when someone smoked out the school where DUmmy greenbriar "teaches". I looked at their web site, which shows the staff. Including teachers and support staff at the school, there were somewhere around seventy people listed. The school's enrollment is less than 400. They keep adding people into the system, because every hire is a certain democrat vote.

It is well past time to reign in public unions. Big Ed is just the tip of the iceberg.

The f**king 'rats have been doing this around Baltimore for years. They start sending section 8 and HUD folks into better neighborhoods and it starts to bring down those same neighborhoods. Spit.

I say we take off and nuke the whole site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Just think, DUmbasses, the socialists in Germany at one time called those that were being moved "evacuees"...

So you send in the tanks and force people to move at the point of the gun and you build a wall to keep them in. No, no problem there. Steal their homes and land and force them to relocate, nothing about that in the Constitution.
How about split Detroit, just cut off the bad part into a new "town".
Oh, thats right, they still want the people

Hmmmmmmmmm......I'm going to be off work for a while, think I might put together a spread sheet on Teacher/Admin/Maintenance/Pupil/class size relation as compared to other districts in the state! Union and non-union.
Anyone wanna take bets on percentages?

I'm no fan of Detroit's politics or their policy-making politicians, but I thought they were targeting areas more than incomes.
It does make sense to relocate people from blocks relatively isolated with few inhabited houses on it to me.
I can see possible problems, though, such as have been pointed out.

They're doing it here as well.
Purchasing houses in good working suburbs and then moving the "problems cases" out of the ghettos and in next door. It's their way of redistributing the ghetto to dilute crime statistics in areas with high public housing in the (unfortunately correct) belief that people will be suckered in by the government "taking action on crime".
It's just happened to me.
Government purchased the house next door and moved a pack of young , government dependent , rowdy and violent people in there.
Took less than two weeks and they'd broken in and stolen stuff after several loud dusk till dawn parties. Less than two weeks , and everyone within a mile hates them and wants them gone , which will never happen because government legislated that public opinion and consultation was unrequired in part of the public housing process.
After 30 years - with maybe 3 police visits to this street - we now average 3 police visits a week. All or the same people.

Yeah, but it's amazing how a little "midnight justice" cures what ills your little miscreants. I'm not saying take the law into your own hands, but if an unfortunate "accident" should befall one or more of the "yutes" while on someone's property uninvited, and when they claim they were attacked, hey, did anyone see anything?

Forced relocation should start a civil war.
Nobody would notice.
Lots of things that are happening SHOULD start a civil war, but the sheeple applaud.

Will Obama Bulldoze 50 American Cities?
PrintJoe Weisenthal | Jun. 15, 2009
The idea of razing houses or even whole neighborhoods is one that's been bandied about for awhile, but it's just so bizarre and antithetical to normal thinking that the talk still seems confined to the fringes.
But a report in UK's The Telegraph is getting lots of play around the internet, as it claims that Barack Obama is weighing plans to bulldoze parts of 50 American cities, along the lines of what's been done in Flint, MI and other rust-belt cities.
{snip}

Now how did that go .... a bright yellow bulldozer.... Ford Perfect? :thatsright:
-
Ford Prefect, actually.
Which was a horrible joke in the original book because in GB back in the 50's there was a car called the Ford Prefect which was an absolute POS.

A 1200-cc straight-4 air-cooled engine--IOW, a smaller engine than a Volkswagen Beetle of the same era (1500 cc.)

Great pic. (I did not know about that btw). What is sad is that is what Detroit iron will become. I had to go to the dry cleaner today an spotted something taking a left at the light in front of me, an all I could think was "rolling coffin", honest it made the Smart Car look sturdy. I have no idea what it was but I am guessing two burly guys (heck even a couple dummies) could toss it over.
Now I am off to look for a bablefish. :evillaugh:

I wonder if there will be a new generation of pancake chicks trying to protect slum houses in Detroit.
Maybe a crazy Palestinian chick will come over here.

Can't imagine it would take too long. How far is it from Detroit to Dearborn?

I would burn their ****ing house down.
As bad as that sounds, I guarantee it won't be long before shots are fired and a stray bullet comes through your window. You cannot reason with these low life's - their entire existence is based on their "victim hood" status as force-fed into their drug addled minds courtesy of the democrats. They have ZERO respect for anyone most importantly themselves. They bastardize, destroy, and lay filth upon everything they touch.
You either burn them out like the vermin they are, move, or wait for that stray bullet to strike a family member in the head.
Your choice and unfortunately, the choices are all bad.
