Our Cruel Legacy in Iraq: Birth Defects in Fallujah’s Children   Updated at 6:26 PM

As the U.S. continues its Iraq withdrawal show — even while the supposed withdrawal deadline is seriously in doubt — what is happening right now in the city of Fallujah is a devastating reminder of what the war has wrought.

It’s not just the heavy civilian toll during the famous battles of Fallujah, which left hundreds of innocents dead, or the iron-fisted security measures that followed, which cut off the city from the outside world. Today, the legacy of the U.S.-led war is written on the bodies of children who weren’t even alive when the city fell under siege.

According to the BBC, “Doctors in the Iraqi city of Fallujah are reporting a high level of birth defects, with some blaming weapons used by the U.S. after the Iraq invasion.”

“Now, the level of heart defects among newborn babies is said to be 13 times higher than in Europe.”

Of course, I was a little skeptical that we'd done so much damage in a few years...without nuclear or biological weapons or anything....

Legacy of war includes high levels of dioxins, radiation

Areas in and near Iraq's largest towns and cities, including Najaf, Basra and Fallujah, account for around 25 per cent of the contaminated sites.

Baghdad: More than 40 sites across Iraq are contaminated with high levels of radiation and dioxins, with three decades of war and neglect having left environmental ruin in large parts of the country, an official Iraqi study has found.

Well, we haven't been there for 30 years...not that any DUmmies noticed that fact.

...

"We are aware of the reports, but we must be cautious in reaching conclusions about causes," Narmin said. "The general health of the city is not good. There is no sewerage system there and there is a lot of stagnant household waste, creating sickness that is directly affecting genetics. We do know, however, that a lot of depleted uranium was used there.

"We have studied 500 sites for chemicals and depleted uranium." Ten of those areas have been classified by Iraq's nuclear decommissioning body as having high levels of radiation.

They include the sites of three former nuclear reactors at the Tuwaitha facility once the pride of Saddam Hussain's regime on the south-eastern outskirts of Baghdad as well as former research centres around the capital that were either bombed or dismantled between the two Gulf wars
.

Yep, Saddam's nuclear reactors and research centres are ALL OUR FAULT.

This is another typical democrat effort to take a weapon away from our armed forces, this time by continuing the fable of radioactive danger from depleted uranium munitions. I thought the DUmmies loved international outfits like the World Health Organization. Right? The WHO says there is no reproductive or carcinogenic risk from the use of depleted uranium munitions. They are, however, very effective in killing enemies of the United States in combat, so democrats are adamantly opposed to them.

Pretty small chance of that. If feet are any indication of the size of your pecker, which I've been told all my life, (hands, nose, feet,.........), they're going to have all kinds of room in the boots we leave behind! After all, there society won't let them use their plumbing very often. That's got to make a difference.

Mrs. Smith, what in the name of GOD is that dude talking about, is he saying that any problems with birth defects is OUR fault?

Far as I know our armed forces do not spread typhoid, anthrax, small pox or sprinkle radio active dust over woman in the street.

In what way are WE responsible for the poor nutrition, open sewers, little medical care   [from what I understand there are few female doctors to treat women and a Muslim female is not allowed to go to a male doctor or dentist].

This is how we found 90% of the population when we got there, few small towns had inside plumbing, or sewer treatment plants.

BTW, I checked out the yellow pages for Boston, not a huge city, and found listings for female doctors that speak 3-4 different languages of the Middle East and India, page after page of them.

Seems like the educated woman are not hanging out in their own country treating woman, it is the $$$$ that brings them here and the days of being paid with a dozen eggs to deliver a child are long gone.
