WASHINGTON - US Senator Scott Brown is expected to file an amendment today that would provide tax breaks for workers by using unspent federal stimulus money. It would be the first piece of legislation filed by the newly elected Massachusetts Republican.

The amendment, “Immediate Tax Relief for America’s Workers,’’ would for six months cut payroll taxes for nearly 130 million workers throughout the country. If approved by Congress, it would use unobligated stimulus money to pay for the tax cut.

The tax cut would be worth $100 per month for the average worker, according to Brown’s office.

The best way to revive our economy and spur job creation is by returning money directly to the American people so they can save and put money back into the economy,’’ Brown said yesterday in a statement. “More than one year after the failed stimulus package, families are still hurting and their hard-earned tax dollars are sitting unused in a stimulus slush fund in Washington. Workers need relief right now.’’

I don't expect this to go far.  We can't upstage The 0's $8-a-week "stimulus", can we?
