Title: Wooly Wednesday
Post by: NHSparky on March 03, 2010, 09:22:59 AM
Power back for almost everyone now.  Just in time for the next storm to come through, but doesn't look like we'll have the kind of winds we got last week.

Work is still here.  Social life still sucks.

That is all.

Mid 30's and overcast.

I really hate Microsoft.  I installed a new hard drive Sunday, did a clean install of Vista Home Premium, and there are still more updates waiting to be installed.  3 full days, and there are still more? WTF, Bill?

Vista so sucks.  When I got my new laptop last year, I qualified for a free upgrade to Windows 7.  Hopefully that will be better.  I get MS updates for Vista STILL.   I got the computer in September.

35 this am, up to 60 today, with sun.  I think we will have sun all week, which bodes well for Irish Fest this weekend.  I surely would like to enjoy a pint and some sunshine.

I have a weird issue with Vista when using message boards.  Maybe there's a very simple solution.  When I copy & paste a news story or crap from DU, I cannot scroll all the way to the bottom of this reply box.

I don't have that problem, and I've gotten use to most of the quirks with Vista. I think it is slower to load than XP was.

Does it happen with different web browsers?

Just IE.  I don't have permission to download Firefox at work or I would have already.

It's up to 34 here with a chill of 27.....and surprise! it's cloudy and gloomy. Again.

Rumor has it, that it's going to warm up and the sun is going to put in an appearance tomorrow and stick around until it rains again on Tuesday. Hope it's nice on Sunday, I have a rookie agent doing an open house for me. She's about 6 inches taller than me and has a carry permit... :-)

Catching up on work details today after spending 4 hours yesterday afternoon in a CE class. It was on Risk Reduction and Fair Housing. Most of the agents in there were brand new licensed agents who have 2 solid days of class on how not to screw up. They have to do these 2 days in order to get their mls keybox. Out of about 90 people in the class, maybe a third of us were established agents getting CE for license renewal. The new agents were getting the Fear of God instilled into them...and the rest of us were sitting there thinking "....and we are in this business...WHY?" First offense for a Fair Housing violation is an $11,000 fine, second is $27,000 and so on. Also possible jail time.  :o :o :o

$350 later, I finally got the brakes on my truck mostly finished. At least it's safe to drive now. I replaced the rotors, wheel bearings, brake calipers (both sides, now), and pads. Bled the system and now they work fine. The ABS was causing some strange problems on my test drives. Apparently the front wheel ABS sensors are giving bullshit signals to the ABS computer. Hopefully that's the cause because an ABS computer is going to be really spendy.  I found the fuse for the ABS and yanked it. Everything is normal now. This tells me that I need to replace the ABS sensors, I hope. That's $100 if I do it myself. I have to thank Auto Zone for one thing; they offer a military discount.

You should be able to get a used ABS computer from a Pull-A-Part in your area for about $30 bucks.

I wonder if AutoZone's discount for military is good everywhere or just your store....

Why not?  It doesn't interrupt my work, just a little diversion every so often.

Check the sensors to make sure they aren't all furry from rotor grindings and dust. You may get away with cleaning them up. Usually a bad sensor code IS bad sensors and a wad of crap on them is the problem. They work magnetically so they can attract some crap. Also just as an aside. Did your new rotors come with the relucter wheels? If they aren't there the sensors can't sense. :-)
