Title: ABC News to cut half domestic correspondents, close bricks-and-mortar bureaus
Post by: bijou on March 01, 2010, 10:49:04 AM
As part of the deep cuts announced this week at ABC News, the network plans to close all of its physical bureaus around the country except Washington and halve the number of its domestic correspondents.

ABC News President David Westin confirmed in an interview Friday that the network's ranks of bureau correspondents, which currently number several dozen, would be cut in half and be replaced with "digital" journalists who would be expected to shoot and edit their own stories.

“We will have as many total journalists as we do now,” he said.

Although the network will keep a minimal staff presence in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and Boston, it will shut down its bricks-and-mortar bureaus there and ask its remaining employees to work from the local affiliates. The Washington bureau will remain open, but its size will be substantially reduced.

When you're the All Barack Channel, there really isn't anything to distinguish you from the National Barack Channel or See-BS, not too hard to foresee that splitting one group of turd-polishers three ways isn't going to lead to anyone getting big numbers out of it.

That was my first reaction. If they keep sucking up to Obama and his band of clowns, the networks will wind up being a one man show.

I just read a handful of comments from the LATimes article. Many really took ABC to task for being in bed with the Dems and co-opting the news for an agenda. Good for them!!

Someone who reads liberal talking points and press releases is all they need.

That's closer to the truth than you imagine.

So the stimulus package is working exactly as planned.  First came Government Motors, now we'll have the Government Broadcasting Channel.

It amazes me that they haven't been able to figure it out yet. The people want real news, good, bad, indifferent. Not the propaganda channel.
