The end of the Olympics. Which National Anthems are the best.
Of course the Star Spangled Banner is the best, but listening to them, some of the others are very pretty.

2. The Star Spangled Banner is awesomist since its about war
And the English-origin melody just adds to the flavor! Badass American anthem!
DUmmy Oregone is one of those snotty kids who doesn't stand for the anthem at the ballpark.

3. Our anthem sucks
IMHO, France has the best anthem, Canada not far behind.
The Star Spangled Banner? Pfffffffffffft.
Everything about America sucks. But don't question their patriotism.

16. Our anthem is just so damn hard to sing
And it's not really about the U.S. very much, just a particular glorious battle.
Personally, I would not be opposed to changing the official anthem to "America the Beautiful" and designating the SSB as the official national fight song.
Many people do not know that there was never even an official national anthem at all until the 1930s!
This singing difficulty is a unique opinion at the DUmp. Very few democrats know the words.

11. First or second one?
There really was no need to replace the Internationale.
DUmmies don't know the Star Spangled Banner, but they all know the words to The Internationale.

8. France is best! SA is a pretty close second.
Does San Antonio have an anthem? Is South America a country? Is a DUmmy really talking about South Africa in the Winter Olympics?

22. The French anthem!
Aux armes, Citoyens!!!
We sometimes sing the French anthem in church. The title is "I Surrender All".

Let me jump the gun and reply before reading- "American's anthem sucks". Am I correct?

By the way, in case the primitives didn't know this, "O Canada" is a hymn.
Right out of Christian hymnals, "O Canada."
But I would've just as soon Canada had kept "God Save the Queen."

When played by a small brass band, there are parts of the Italian Anthem that sound remarkably like the calliope music one hears on the midway at a county fair.
I was on a ship homeported in Gaeta, Italy, and we had to stand at attention at morning muster every day while it was played on loudspeakers from the pier before the U.S Anthem was played onboard ship. We used to all bob up and down ever so slightly while it was playing, like we were on a merry-go-round. Hilarious.
Ugly Americans, we were. :-)

LOL@ that mental picture. The Italians never caught on, I take it?

I really liked Ayn Rand's 'Anthem', a short story. I read it online somewhere.

I'm actually somewhat amazed at how different the English and French versions of the Canadian anthem are. The French version is much more openly religious.
For reference:
French Version (and translation)
Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux, O Canada! Home of our ancestors,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux! Your brow is wreathed with glorious garlands!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée, Just as your arm knows how to wield the sword,
Il sait porter la croix! It knows how to bear the cross.
Ton histoire est une épopée Your history is an epic
Des plus brilliants exploits. Of the most brilliant feats.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée, And your valour steeped in faith
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits. Will protect our homes and our rights
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits. Will protect our homes and our rights.
English version
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
-

Shouldn't the primtives be all upset that Canadians are claiming the country as their "native land" when they stole it from the people who were there already?
Honestly, I grow weary of having to point out to the primitives how inconsistent they are in all the things they believe. It's way past time they grow up and start recognizing how stupid they are on their own.

Yeah, filthy commies. As for the South Korean one, there is nothing uglier than South Korean music. It could easiy be used as a torture device. Is that what you want, DUmmies?

As music goes the US Anthem is a difficult piece. The range is quite wide and it is difficult to sing for most people. That said, there isn't too many pieces more dramatic than our Anthem.
One exception is the old Soviet Anthem, The Hymn of the Soviet Union, which replaced the International in the 1940s, during the war as the Anthem for the Soviets. It is very dramatic and a great song.
That song was dropped when the Soviet Union fell apart but returned as the Anthem of Russia after a special request by Vladimir Puten. The words have been re-written, but the dramaticness of the music remains. In 1990, Russia needed a new anthem to distance itself from the Soviet past. While it used God Save The Tsar! before the overthrow of the Tsar in 1917, President of the Russian SFSR Boris Yeltsin decided to pick the song Patrioticheskaya pesnya by Mikhail Glinka. Composed without words and discovered after Glinka's death, the anthem decreed official in 1993 without lyrics. Because of the lack of lyrics, the anthem did not catch on and did not inspire Russian athletes during international competitions. Despite government efforts to produce lyrics, none were found. Because of this President Vladimir Putin decided that Alexandrov's music was to be restored and new lyrics were to be written for it. The anthem was created and adopted in late 2000 and it was the second anthem used by Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
