I am very upset with members of DU with good cause (mild rant)
About two weeks ago, with the mention of the letter by Senate Democrats for Reconciliation, I started a daily (or near daily) HCR Reconciliation Thread with updates and news. I keep a good vote count and scour news sources for updates. I voiced my analysis and I got torched by some members of DU, including numerous unrecs.
I posted, in one of my HCR threads, that I did not like Obama giving up the public option was close to political suicide, and I got torched by some members of DU, including numerous unrecs, including being told I was clueless about politics (PhD student, BA in political science, MA in political history) and that my analysis was nothing more than ignorant "monday morning quarterbacking."
I posted that most of the critical and fighting with Obama was based on him being a Democrat, a "liberal" and being black and I got torched by some members of DU, including numerous unrecs, being told that I was making a non-sequitir argument and race has nothing to do with it.
I posted that I felt the summit on Thursday was pure political gamesmanship in a way to push Republicans into a corner, expose them and then railroad Democratic policies through within the six month of the election (which is the average memory of the average American voter), and I got torched by some members of DU, including numerous unrecs, being told that I knew nothing about politics.
Then, The Rude Pundit posts everything I said over the past two weeks using language I would never use and does he get torched by some members of DU, including numerous unrecs? No. . .he get praised for sound, reasoned analysis!
Do I need to use bad language?
edit: fixed a typo. I am a University professor in China and learning Mandarin is beginning to affect my English typing and thinking, because it is the opposite of English and there is no difference between singular and plural except to use numbers.
franksolich to the Red Chinese primitive: yeah, it helps to use bad language.
The primitives aren't cerebrally-developed enough to understand fine language.

Doesn't help the argument, but somehow it's easier to breath after...
Just don't get yourself banned.

23. It's a challenging forum.
I know how you feel, well almost. I get entirely ignored for the most part. Some days the venue strikes me as over run with alliances and popularity contests. Other times debate gets over heated and personal and then of course are the folks whose presence here is less than genuine.
I hope Babylon Sister doesn't mind my quoting her when I pass on what she offered this newbie as something of a shield, which I try to remember most when I'm feeling shunned. "You need to have thick skin."
For me, the good outweighs the bad. Entertaining and talented folks share the best of themselves here for the world to see, many of them dedicated specialists on matters of education, economics, political procedure and science. The place can be as informative as any library. The warmth and support shared here is the substance of many a thread. Some of these folks have been here for much longer than you or me, so maybe it's a generational thing.
You sound smart, sensible and strong headed. All good traits for surviving the trenches of tactical threads.
Are you an American living abroad? How is our nation perceived in the eyes of another citizenry?

24. I am living abroad.
Here in the PRC, we are looked at in a number of ways:
Socially, Americans are "exotic" and "challenging," fun to look at, have 好帅 (handsome） or 漂亮 (beautiful) features women and men hear wish they had (fine, soft hair that is not black <mine is very light brown with blonde streaks, even at 31 years old>, green eyes like mine) or different features they find exotic (like, as weird as it sounds, a hairy chest).
Academically, Americans are not looked at as too bright, however Jews are given every positive stereotype in the world. This comes from Chairman Mao's attitude that Jews were the Chinese of Europe.
Money-wise, all Americans are wealthy because the exchange rate is 6.82 kuai to 1 American dollar and everything, for American money, is dirt cheap. . .for example. a regular bottle of Coca-Cola is, in American, $.35.
However, women are afraid of American men because they don't want to lose face, parents usually don't approve of their daughters dating a foreigner and they hide behind, or even invent, Chinese traditionals that anyone with exactly one ounce of trained logical thought can tear to pieces. Add to that the idea that it is custom to allow people to weasel out of a lie instead of calling them on it (Americans do not allow people to weasel out of lies unless you're a Republican) and Americans are fun to be with, fun to know and even fun to åšçˆ± (sex), but outside of the major cities, that's about it unless someone introduces you to someone, as with my current GF.
Chinese men see Americans as face-givers. "I am in the company of an American. Ain't I special?"
In South Korea, they hate us and want us to leave. Most places refuse to allow GIs in, like in Hongdae and Sinchon. . .and most of the American "teachers" are the lowest form of scum on the planet. They view Korea and Koreans as playland and playtoys and Koreans view Americans as unwelcome guests. And all Americans have AIDS.
Many times in Korea I was told, on the Green line subway to "Go Home." Here in the PRC, I am welcomed by everyone.
In Japan, it is a mix between the two, but the Japanese have more American ideals than Koreans and the Chinese. Just don't trust what they say. Their smiles, most of the time, are as fake as their boobs, even men.
As I travel more, I will tell you more. Thailand, Singapore, PI, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, Mongolia, and Viet Nam are on the list. If I can obtain passage or approval, Laos, Cambodia and Brunei are also on the list.
I would like to go to Burma for the historical sites, but HELL NO!!!! Burma's a damned war zone!!!

I suspect the Red Chinese primitive originally used that term, and then corrected it on edit.
The Red Chinese primitive needn't have worried about it, though; this is after all Skins's island, and the primitives' grasp on proper English is tenuous, if at all.
