The only class I completely failed at despite trying my damnedest to understand the material was physics. I don't know what it was, but it just completely escaped me. I was bombing so badly that after one quarter, I dropped out to save my GPA.

Nope...but there was that little incident in the chem-lab that almost caused me to get an F.... :-)

Yeah, my junior year math class (can't recall what it was) was a close one. Because of that, I decided not to take math my senior year. I was a year ahead of normal anyway.

I failed algebra. I must have been asleep the day they taught order of operations.
I did learn it eventually.

Chemistry, which one had to have to graduate from high school.
Obviously an abysmal failure, but the teacher, kind-hearted soul, marked on the report card "PX" instead of "F".
He did that for another classmate too.
No one ever knew what "PX" meant, and no one questioned.

No, sailed through HS without much difficulty. The 4 years of German I took were easily the most difficult classes I had and that was because the teacher taught them in German from the beginning of freshman year on. Freshman year of college, however, was a BIG bucket of cold water in the face, though. That was the start of really having to work for grades.

I probably should have failed a few classes, but despite my laziness and other things, I graduated in the top 20% of my class. I can't tell you how I did it because I was often "impaired" before Physics class and then Trig/ Calc class thanks to having Stage Band before Trig/ Calc and Lunch before Physics. WE had an open campus way back then.........

I flunked English in HS cause I hated school and did not like the teacher. My parents sent me to Gulf Coast Military School for the summer to take a single course so that I would not have to repeat the 10th grade. Oh, what fun that was; the school was located across from the ocean in Gulfport MS; went horse back riding, swimming, fishing, etc every day. I flunked a course on purpose the next year; they send me back again. Two best summer vacations I ever had.

Nope...was an honor student in HS.
Flunked chemistry in college.....might not have if I hadn't set fire to the chem lab sink (it was not my fault!!! and I wickedly burned my hand :bawl:), my test grades were abysmal, but my lab grades were good until I was banned from the lab for a few weeks. :uhsure:
Would have flunked statistics, but my prof felt sorry for me cause I just had no clue...so he gave me a D. It was required for my major and I think he knew that I would have ended up back in his class so he avoided the misery for both of us... :-)

The closest I came to failing a class was Algebra II my sophomore year. I had a solid C going into the last semester final, and asked the teacher what my final grade would be if I zeroed the final. I ended up with a D, I walked into class, put my name on the test and left.
For some reason, I knuckled down the next two years, an got straight A's but never made it into the Honors Society. :banghead:

I never worried about Honor Society in HS. I was never going to college. :lmao:
Whoops. But I have a good GPA and as long as I don't bomb this semester, I'll be joining the history honor society in fall.
Trying to decide if I want to risk taking a semester of calculus. None of the architecture programs I'm looking at require it, but it does shut me off from some good programs like UT in Austin or University of Virginia...

Not in high school, that was a relative breeze.
College was a different story. I failed Intro to Religion (or something like that) my first semester. Silly me, I shouldn't have scheduled an 8:00 class that I nearly never attended. Re-took it 2nd semester & got an A.
My junior year, I got a D in Intermediate Accounting II. The professor was denied tenure, and this was his last semester of teaching. He didn't even teach the damn class, he'd come in and go over problems on the overhead projector without explaining them at all. I'm not sure any of his students got an A. Retook that stupid class the next semester and got a B.

My nemesis was Algebra, right after lunch. That was where I learned how to look like I was working while sleeping. Managed a D, never got an F.

That happened to me in middle school with a math teacher. My parents couldn't figure out why I was doing so poorly all of a sudden. It was because the teacher really grated on me. She was very old school (no pun intended) and insisted upon 1950s-style classroom discipline. For example, when the hour bell rang, she dismissed us by table when every other teacher just let kids leave as they could. She also had a bizarre way of pronouncing the number four. She would say "FO-urr." Two syllables. I hated that.

I was a very skinny kid; got picked on a lot. Got in a lot of fights. I hated school starting in the first grade. My parents sent me to a private school at 5 1/2 years of age cause I was too young to enter public school. The head master was a mean old woman that would pull hair when you were bad. Lucky I made it out of there with any. :-)

I ended up graduating my sophmore year. I went from a private parochial school to the worst public high school ever (E.St. Louis). They were using books I had in the 5th grade! They didn't know what to do with me, so they let me take all senior classes; breezed through those so they decided I met all the requirements to graduate. The school was so bad they were desparate to show a 'graduation' rather than another 'drop-out'. Not one teacher or administrator gave a shit. I always felt cheated.

My gift/curse for the longest time was that I could walk into any test damned near cold and stand a reasonable chance of not just passing it, but usually acing it. That made me lazy early on - if I could prove that I knew the material, what was the point of doing the homework, right? - and came back to bite me right in the ass when I started taking subjects I couldn't glean the right answers to the test from the points the teacher emphasized in the lectures.

That made me lazy early on - if I could prove that I knew the material, what was the point of doing the homework, right? - and came back to bite me right in the ass when I started taking subjects I couldn't glean the right answers to the test from the points the teacher emphasized in the lectures.

College wasn't as traumatic for me as it might have been, because I graduated from high school and went right into the workforce as an Apprentice Draftsman. College courses were taken on my own time, and on my own money. It took failing only one class that I had paid my own hard-earned for, for me to become a disciplinary rock when it came to study habits.

2 High Schools, we moved allot.
No 2 states have the same books or requirements, moving in mid year is an experience for any kid.
Back then teachers were seldom young, no 10 year difference in age between student and teacher, it was more like 30+.
Because of a spinal problem that was not found until I was in my late 20's I simply could not do sit-ups in Phys. ED. In 4 years at different schools I never once passed even one class anywhere that sit ups were required.
Add in the fact that I was and still am very uncoordinated, But, loved to dance and on the dance floor everything changed, I found my element.
Explained to me years later it is akin to someone with a bad stutter that can sing with no problem.
Back then when a girl had her period they were made to sit out class on the bleachers and watch as class mates had fun jumping and bouncing about.
For some of us girls this change in our body's did not come about easily. You girls know what I mean, some months it would hit just once very heavy, other times off and on spotting, no sex education and for us girls, and the age difference in maturing was from 10-16 perhaps even longer. It was us girls who matured early that had to watch as the girls that had not had that change got all the practice and did well.
The one class I made all A's in was homemaking, when it was my turn to prepare food for the teacher and class in my final year of school, my Dad ran a line of lobster pots, and I would bring in 30 pounds of lobster for the class and teacher. That one class boosted up my other grades and I graduated.

I did well in high school, stayed on the Honor Roll most of the time. Switched to a different school for Junior and Senior year, Honor Roll there, too. But when graduation time came, they called me in and explained that they'd just looked over all my classes and I couldn't graduate...I'd never taken Home Ec. ::)
My folks stopped by to talk to the principal the next day. According to Mom, they didn't say much past, "How many boys are not graduating because they didn't take Home Ec?" :-) I got my diploma.
I did one semester of college right after high school, got A's and B's...then dropped out, got married, had my first kid.
Went back to college when that kid was 8 (and had 2 younger siblings). By then, I'd figured out that no one was going to support us, it was all up to me.
4.0 average that time. :-)

I just didn't give a shit about "Resolved -- the pimple on my ass is ready to explode."
So I just skipped it. A lot. Mr. DiGiorgio didn't blink - he just failed me! :rotf:
In college, I ran into an elective course in Genetics (introductory course) that simply left me in the dust. After two weeks of wondering what day of the week it was (no impairment involved), I finally got wise and just dropped the course. I needed it like I needed another zit on my ass.
For the most part I did what I had to and made the dean's list more often than not. Last two years I had a 4.0 average, graduating with a 3.63.....

I got C's and D's in high school but yet oddly enough I had enough credits to graduate early during the middle of my Senior year in 77. Then when i went to college I did better got some A' and B's in English lit and C's and B's in Sociology and Psychology I and for some reason the one class I wanted to do well in Astronomy I did get an F in.

I know that place! I knew it as the AFRH, but I know it. I used to hang on the Least Tern Reserve, across 90 from it.

I have not been along the MS gulf coast in many years. Need to take a 2 hr drive to check out how that area has recovered from Katrina.

Yep that was me too. I'd ace the tests, shine at the classwork and blow off the homework. It pissed off alot of teachers but I didn't care.
I had a British Lit class that I never read a single book for. I was an avid reader too but I never read any of the required work. The classroom discussion was enough for me to know what was going to be on the tests.
I had an Americanism vs Communism class that I'd only read the books after the discussions if it sounded interesting to me. Never failed a test in that one either.
I was a pain in the ass in high school :-)

Haven't been back since 07, our house was right north of 90, and doesn't exist anymore. I am sure that by now things look a lot different then they did then, but a lot of things have changed, and it is hard to recognize anything anymore. They moved a bunch of stuff further north as a result of HK. And demolished a bunch of stuff too. The AFRH took a lot of hits, that was where Cantore was during the storm. I heard they were going to gut it, but I don't know if that has happened yet.
