Is it wrong to deny life insurance to a reefer smoker?

It's a common problem, a friend of mine applied for life insurance and was denied after being forced to pee in a cup. His marijuana levels were 'too high'. Apparently they allow for a certain level of thc in the system, 1 to 45 points on their scale, he unfortunately registered at 145, by whatever stupid scale they've come up with.

I'll bet the insurance companies don't give a shit if you're an alcoholic, but they deny pot heads outright, I don't know how they handle the cigarette smokers.

There are a lot of people out there who enjoy this illegal activity for better or worse, but what is the reasoning behind denying life insurance to a person based solely on the fact that they like to get high? Sometimes we almost forget that it's illegal, but it is for some stupid ass reason.

Lord help us all.

What a DUmbass. Any chronic sort of detrimental habits, smoking, alcohol abuse, etc. are going to raise your premiums at least. Using ILLICIT drugs is going to get you a big, fat no-go.

If a life-insurance company had evidence that a person were an alcoholic, you can bet they would either deny them coverage, or raise their rates through the roof.  A life insurance company wants to avoid paying out more than it has too.  It has to, or it would not be able to stay in business.  I suspect that they have some sort of metric that show that people with more than a certain amount of marijuana in their system is more likely to do something stupid that results in death, or they are more likely to die of other causes.  It may also be a way to screen out people using Marijuana for pain relief, which would indicate the possibility of a serious health issue.

I suspect that cigarette smokers generally get really high rates, low payout amounts, or outright denial, depending on the risk that the life insurance company thinks they will be.

The whole concept of "freedom" escapes the primitives, always has, and always will.  That an individual or a company can refuse to do business with someone they don't wish to do business with is beyond their ability to understand.

It would be wrong if the company denying the coverage was The Reefer Smokers United Life Insurance Co.

Otherwise, I think it's just fine.

OK?

Next Little Goon problem!  GO!:

Actually, that's a great idea. If this DUmmie had any entrepreneurial spirit at all, he could find some investors and start his own insurance company.

I don't know, let's be creative. What would potheads want?

It doesn't have to be just life ins. Maybe a new dime bag if you get ripped off. Or legal help if you get busted. Or unemployment benefits if you lose your job by failing your piss test...nah, that wouldn't work, they'd all fail intentionally. Anyway, the possibilities are endless and your potential customers would all be high, so who knows what they might fall for.

Maybe we should start it.

Maybe we should start it.

Yeah, because if one of us did it, it would be a success.  The DUmmies wouldn't care about profit.

Considering that pot smokers have regular encounters with drug dealers I don't blame them. Last time I checked they are not the Boy Scouts.
