NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) ― Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student.

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.

The New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a district-wide school wellness policy, said school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo.

Good grief.

Pretty soon they will legislate when someone is allowed to use the bathroom.

When I was in High School, Michigan was in a huge debate about allowing student vouchers.  Basically, to have the state pay for private schools for kids.

There was a lot of outrage against the idea.  Mostly because the funding for this would be pulled from the public schools.  Basically, every kid was valued at $2500 a school year.  If you where to take your kid from the public school system, and place them into the private school system, the state would cut $2500 from the public schools budget, and give it to the private school for tuition costs and such.

Seeing how stupidly PC a lot of schools are getting nowadays, I find myself supporting the idea of the voucher program.  It gives you a certain amount of power as a parent over the school district.  If their gonna get all head up their ass like, you take their money from them.

When was this? I am all for school vouchers. One can just go to another public school if they like. It's not just private school. We spend more and more money on schools, yet we still have problems. Schools save a lot of money if they used workbooks because those textbooks are expensive and have to be replaced. Sure, they are not for people with short attention span or PC enough.
