Could DU hire a DU lobbyist? Would we want to? (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7780586)

Could we put together that kind of money?

Could we agree enough on what we'd want him/her to lobby for?

Would just one lobbyist be meaningfully effective against all of the other lobbyists?

Are we better off contributing to other political organizations that already have lobbyists?

Please, have mercy on what is just a nearly random thought I'm running up the flagpole, triggered by a comment I saw in another thread where someone said he wasn't rich enough to hire a lobbyist. I'm hardly thinking to myself, "Oh, boy! What a brilliant idea!"

Even if this idea somehow might have had a little merit until recently, does the recent SCOTUS ruling about corporate money make it a moot point?

Maybe we could at least collectively provide a little income for a DUer in the Washington, DC area who's willing to stand around in long lines in the halls of Congress for us?

I think the NAMBLA lobbyist would get more respect than a DUmmy lobbyist. :rotf:

It would provide a living for anyone who could subsist on emailed pictures of hands and good vibes.  :-)

Yeah, but only if they could agree with what they are lobbying for/against first.

LOL !!  This is a GREAT idea!  I wonder how much;

Paid time off they would receive

Sick time they would get

How much pay increase they would allow and how often

Would they get benefits for their 'life partners'?

Oh this could be goooood.

Paid time off they would receive

50 weeks a year

Sick time they would get

2 weeks a year

How much pay increase they would allow and how often

Start at $50,000. Increase of $1000 a week.

Would they get benefits for their 'life partners'?

Of course.

Oh this could be goooood.

See, this is what I'm thinking.  Since this would be coming out of THEIR pockets these things become very tangible to them.  Sure, it's nice to dream about those kinds of things but then reality has a way of creeping up on you when it comes out of your pocket.

No doubt.  Should they foolishly decide to discuss it further for all of us to point and laugh, expect someone to say something like "Maybe we could get some rich DUers to pay for it."

Hey, Atman/Texas Toast just went on vacation and rented an expensive car, he claims to have bucks.  So does Greenbriar, she's always bragging about her cruises.

Could you imagine the reaction of Bobbo the Hobo to something like this?

She could be hired on the cheap. It wouldn't cost much more for her to be homeless in DC than it does in Colorado.

Two questions come to mind:

"With what?" and

"For what?"

I mean, far be it from me to stand between them and any lawyer desperate enough to work for what's left in the Cheetos bag plus any stray marijuana stems and seeds he can scrounge, but come on, what could they possibly all agree on in the first place?

Getting them to agree on a single policy in order to "lobby" for it will be enjoyable.

According to GOBUCKS Atman is large and in charge.  He is Mission Control!  We should let him take over and pay for it.

About all they can agree on is that Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rumsfeld/Rice et al are war criminals.

I KNOW!  They can lobby against Walmart.  Or was it for Walmart?  I dunno, but they seem pretty emotional about Walmart.

They're pretty united on marrying queers and killing babies.

The Little Goons laboring under the delusion they are one cohesive tangible unit has always been right up their with Little Goons' understanding economics on my Funny Bone Meter.

Some of those Little Goons REALLY REALLY REALLY do think DemocratUndergrind.com is important and makes a difference.  Of course, they have absolutely nothing on which to base that hallucination, which makes it all the more funny.

Being ridiculed and laughed at by people - some as important as Rush Limbaugh - must be misunderstood by the addled rattled minds at DU.

"In the summertime, because (of) the high humidity and how hot it gets here, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol." - Harry Reid

Bobbo may not even have to lobby, so much as just show up. They may throw up whatever legislation she wants just to get her out of there.
