Yes, it looks amazing, and the recipe has the most wonderful things, but it's the text that got me...

1. I gotta admit... I agree! It's no fun baking for someone if all they say is "thanks" or "it was good". I want to hear how much they enjoyed it, that they really loved it, it was delicious, etc - that's part of what makes baking for someone truly meaningful. I absolutely love it when someone ooohs and aaaahs over something I baked, and smiles real big. And remembers and comments about it later.

2. I, too, am guilty. It's so rewarding to hear those groans and sighs.
Couple of weeks ago, I made a variation of shrimp and grits for Sunday dinner. Grits cooked with garlic, sharp cheddar added at the end. Onions, garlic, peppers, sliced sausage and tomatoes cooked together with shrimp added at the end, all of this served on top of the grits. Everyone moaned, smacked their lips, asked for seconds, etc. That's what makes it all worthwhile.

I'm making two cheesecakes for the hubs to take to work this week for his birthday. He loves the plain NY style that I make without any toppings on it, but I might have to show him this one!
Or maybe not.
I am so fortunate in that Bill always lets me know when he really enjoys something I make. I get an immediate response, and that is very gratifying. I know when it's something I've truly outdone even myself with when he says that no one eats better than he does.
What's this with Mrs. Alfred Packer using this "oh my" bit?
That's franksolich's trademark.
Anyway, it looks as if Mrs. Alfred Packer makes good food under some sort of duress; probably she knows that if she doesn't give less than the best to hippyhubby Wild Bill, she's going to end up in the jampacked refrigerator with all those other, uh, cuts and sides.

I've done cupcakes for my sons to take to school but never my husband. Frosting is best eaten at home.

I MAKE THE FINEST CHEESECAKES IN THE COUNTRY. At the top of the list are my pumpkin and key limes. I do not need anyone to ooh and aah when they have a slice. I know they enjoyed because every holiday I get called on to make MORE

So Wild Bill is bringing cheesecake to work in honor of himself. Not only is this femmy, it's wrong. In my workplace, we have an incredibly sexist practice. All the girls exchange names, and for the person you get you have to bring something in, plus get everyone to sign the card. The guys are completely ignored, whether they want to be or not. If there's something leftover, they can have the crumbs. I've never seen anything like it.
We also have a women-segregated Christmas party, before the company-wide one. It's like a Saudi Arabian wedding around here.

I have never seen the point in cheesecake. Nearly tasteless, unappetizing texture, no fruit to make it worthwhile. It always seemed to me to be a chick dessert that made them feel like it had less calories because it's not as good as a piece of pie. And most men, if they eat cheesecake at all, do it to recognize the effort their wife went to to make it. I'm sure there are many exceptions, but I've never known a man to order cheesecake in a restaurant. It's sort of like ordering a mixed drink that comes with a little paper umbrella. I will now raise the blast shields.

You have not had good cheesecake.
Mine New York cheesecake has 2.5 POUNDS of cream cheese in it. I make a raspberry Chambord sauce for it. It has a pecan/cinnamon crust because I don't like graham cracker crust.
My son has requested it for his birthday since he was a little kid.
I've never had a male guest here who didn't like it....a lot!

My grandmother made a type of cheesecake that was light and fluffy and I haven't seen that type in years. My wife made a pumpkin cheesecake at Thanksgiving, then made two of them at Christmas, so we'd have some leftovers to bring home.

He is wrong about chicks ordering it because it's perceived to be less fattening. Chicks know EXACTLY what goes into the cake, and where it ends up (the hips).

Strangely enough given the Red Lobster thread, that is pretty much how I feel about a lot of seafood, especially crab, lobster, and scallops.

You can make truffles with a bag of crushed Oreos mixed with an 8oz block of cream cheese.
Put both into the food processor, roll into truffle size balls, then dip in melted chocolate and either leave plain, or drizzle with white chocolate or roll into chocolate sprinkles or cocoa powder....
I have it on good authority that there are no calories in these. :-)
