Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.

But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary.

Or, there's the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help. ...

Post by: thundley4 on February 21, 2010, 07:59:08 PM: I read the other day that some city is considering having people that have accidents pay for the cleanup of the wreck. I would assume that would mean the broken glass, since people already have to pay for their cars to be towed.

Now they will have to call non-emergency numbers. Set it into their cell phones.

When I was in high school, I was taught that 911 calls from cell phones always went to the CHP, then had to be re-routed to the actual 911 line for your area. They gave us the phone number we could use to contact the police directly. I suggest that everybody in Tracy look up that number and start using it.

I'd like to keep that string going, but Chris is right. Stupidity abounds and won't lessen just because there's a cost involved with some moron who calls 911 because Taco Bell ran out of refried beans. :whatever:
