Florida bill would make abortion punishable by life in prison
An expansive measure to make most abortions illegal in Florida has been filed for the 2010 Legislative session, challenging federal protections in place for more than 40 years.
Both anti-abortion advocates and abortion rights supporters agree the 53-page proposal is an attempt to directly challenge the 40-year-old Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortions in the United States in 1973.
“The Legislature finds that there have been 50 million abortions in the United States since the Roe decision,†the bill reads. “ The Legislature further finds that every life lost to abortion was sacred and of the highest value.â€
Sponsored by Rep. Charles Van Zant, R-Palatka, HB 1097 would criminalize most abortions now allowed under state and federal law, increase penalties for physicians who perform such services and require pregnant women to receive more information on adoption. The bill was filed Wednesday, the same day that right to life groups made the trek to Tallahassee to meet lawmakers and rally support.

6. As much as Scalia and Alito would HATE it
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 10:39 PM by Canuckistanian
They would be forced to slap it down if it came to a SC challenge.
There's too much precedent even for them to withstand.

15. While I tend to be on the sunny, optimistic end of this board, opinion-wise
I must disagree. Scalia and his faction are ideologues of the highest order, who have no problem ignoring precedent or even their own previous opinions.

18. There's WAY too much precedent on Roe v. Wade
It would be the hydrogen bomb of Supreme Court decisions.
It would not only destroy abortion, but would open up the whole concept of stare decisis (law settled by precedent).
And they wouldn't want THAT.
Um, DUmmies, reversing Roe v. Wade is why you are so against conservatives on the USSC. Any decision could be reversed given the right circumstances and the right members on the court.

7. Do you think that's true? 50 million abortions? Good golly.
That's a lot of innocent unborn children, isn't it?

12. So what?
-
All it would take is for the Supreme Court to decide that unborn children are persons, and therefore should receive equal protection. This bill seems like it would be the perfect case to allow the Supreme Court to make that ruling.

22. Someone needs to file a bill down there that says a woman who
is forced to bear a child she doesn't want must give the child to its father at birth so the father can accept the burden for the first 18 years of life. If he refuses, his wages are garnished until the end of time. If the father is nowhere to be found, the state - which prohibited the abortion - is on the hook for the financial well being of the child.
How many women have abortions against the wishes of the father? Many abortions are had by women that could well afford the child, but it's inconvenient.
-
I would bet that many women who have abortions don't know who the father is in the first place.

How many coerce women into abortions?
-
DUmbasses always use apocalyptic terms when discussing the certainty that a decent and civilized Supreme Court will someday overturn the disgraceful precedent of Roe v. Wade. It makes you wonder how this nation survived its first 197 years, when virtually all reasonable people recognized that abortion involves the murder of infants.

Probably a few, I know at least one that did, but then divorced his wife anyway.

Whoa.
It looks as if the stuttering primitive and the pederast primitive, the "ThomCat" primitive, have a, uh, "interest" in common.

Ok, it occurs to me that there are some very weird things to consider here.
There are woman that have partial sex change operations. So far 2 of them have opted for implation of a growing egg, and are now carring a child. They have had enough of a sex change to have their birth certificate be changed to male, They are now legally Male yet if all else changes as they have kept their womb.
So they have a fertilised egg implanted into their now male body into the left over womb.
It grows, this human just resting in a male incubator. Birth must be be Cesarean section as the body no longer has that part to deliver it vaginally..
Now comes the rule of law, a woman can terminate a pregnancy, but can a legal male?
Are these people male or female, everything in law says they are male, for some reason these males think having a baby because they can still do so is nifty. Something then happens, they no longer want a child, what to do they are now male.
Now what, as they are no longer female they have no right to abort any child, theirs or others.
Just a Sunday morning rambling about the insane life we have been dragged into by well meaning people.

Fifty million. You should note, DUmmies, that the vast, overwhelming majority of that fifty million would have been born and raised by democrat deadbeats.
