I ordered a butter bell the other day.
I've always wanted one, but kept forgetting since I don't usually see them as the only shopping I do is grocery if I can possibly help it.
I was flipping through a Bon Apetit at work the other day and saw an advert for this website;

They are have different styles and are having a sale. I ordered on of the antique style in lavender.

Yikes! I forgot to check where they are made. I hope not China. Doesn't say on their site that I have seen. Guess I'll find out when it gets here.
Edit#2: Damn! I just called a local retailer and they looked at their stock and said they ARE made in China.

Mine's more cafeteria generic. I found it easier to change the water in it every day instead of every other day, though.

I do think it's pretty and I've wanted one for some time. Just the whole China thing ticks me off, especially when they don't tell you. I usually am careful to check these things out, but I was so excited to find one that was so pretty it totally slipped my mind.
Is it easier to change the water, or just better? Not having owned one before, I'm not sure why it would be easier.

3. Mine recommended every other day, but I got so I'd forget it, so I just started with every day...keeps it from molding. I'm kinda leery of stuff from China, too.

I liked having one... till my dog stood up on the counter, licked it clean and knocked it on the floor and broke it!
And yes, it's a good idea to change the water every couple of days to stave off any mold. And I still kept it in the refrigerator during the hot summer months when I wasn't running the air conditioning all day, cause it would still get kinda melty. Some people have trouble with the butter "falling out" of the little bowl - I found that if the butter was a little soft and I mushed it in real good, it stayed.

It's just so hard to get away from things made in China anymore, especially where kitchen wares are concerned. Exactly the place I DON'T want it.
Sorry your puppy broke yours. There are less expensive models on Amazon, by about half the price, if you want another one.
Well now, why is Mrs. Alfred Packer so antagonistic about products made in Red China?
After all, Red China's one of those socialist paradises of the workers and peasants with free medical care for all, and so Mrs. Alfred Packer should be happy to support them by purchasing their products.
The primitives hardly make sense.

However....I don't think I would want one from China. I'd be afraid it had a lead paint glaze on it. Not something I would want to keep butter in for a month.

I saw some cable show about antiques. Apparently, butter bells were used before refrigeration. You were supposed to fill some part of the thing with water and it would somehow keep the butter from spoiling. I have no idea how or if they actually worked.

I received a clear glass one as a gift and don't recall its origins. I thought I'd use it, but after a few weeks went back to my old refrigerated butter dish. There's just the two of us and butter doesn't get used often enough to risk leaving it warm.

I think it's neat too. We use real butter and I don't like it straight out of the fridge because it is so hard.

No kiddin'! You're hard pressed to find anything manufactured in the US any more. The Unions have priced us right out of the world market. Pretty hard to justify paying $20/hr when you can make it overseas for 25 cents/hr.

Oh how much fun kitchen gadgets are. Take the expensive hand crank spaghetti roller, got one but never made food with it, I use it to roll out modeling clay of various thicknesses for projects.
For Valentines day Hubby brought me besides a Chocolate heart, 4 books I had on my buy list and a TITAN. Strange thing to give a wife you think but for $20.00 these 2 little gadgets have replaced two shelves in the pantry of useless kitchen aids that I may use once every 3 years. I cleared out all that stuff, toaster ovens to salad shooters, and emptied one draw of every kind of peeler, shredder and small graters that are difficult to work. Down to Good Will with 2 big boxes of stuff I just had to have at the time.
I was just about to throw out those corn on the cob holders when I got a brain storm, these can be used to hold vegetables when they are being peeled so there will be no worry about nicking a finger or knuckles. works great holding hard cheese also.
Now I am looking at my pizza cutter that I never use, the turkey baster I use once a year, there must be dozens of uses for these seldom or never used items.
I found 2 whisks, why 2 who knows but one went to the shed to stir up paint.
I found 3 knife sharpeners, and enough knives collected over the years to shame an assassin. I found some things in the back, electric carving knifes, hand crank apple peelers and a brand new Fry Daddy I had never used and forgotten it was there.
Allot of this stuff are gifts but enough is enough. I do not want or need a bread maker, 14 spatulas, 6 soup spoons, those gizmo's that scramble an egg in its shell, double Pans for omelets, juicers, or a dehydrator's how often do I use one of them.?
40 years of collecting from cast iron that was great grandmas to the stuff I just had to have at the time has over run my kitchen.
75% of this stuff is going to be gone, just us two, if company comes for dinner, I will order out Chinese. What do I do now with all this extra space.? Why I hear there is a big sale at the Kitchen Store at the mall next week, it won't hurt to just LOOK.

1. You need a pizza cutter with a big wheel, 3" or more, ball bearings, titanium, union made. Yours is probably from China via WalMart.
2. You need to put the Pizza Hut number magnet on your refrigerator door. Then you can put the cutter in the trash.

Called a friend that just happens to be a seamstress, she uses a dull pizza cutter to outline pattern's on fabric.
She has a rotatory cutter to actually cut the fabric but she uses the pizza thingy as first fabric, then carbon paper on top finally the pattern.
Ye old turkey baster besides being to -----well you know----are handy in a tool box to squirt out just a drop or two of oil into tight spots in sewing machines or even to lube motors in washers or dryers,
We have birds, 2 cages and those basters are great to suck out feathers or seeds from their water dishes. A use for those with pets and ear problems, it could be used to squirt medication for ear mites into the ear canal.
For me it is Dominoes Pizza, here at home. In NY a good pie is hard to find. In Mass, there are some small out of the way shops that are on the outskirts of the city and are as close to the real thing one can get. Crust, olive oil and spiced tomato sauce. No toppings unless you insist and it can become habit forming.
Who on earth decided to add those fuzzy worms called Anchovies to a pizza was not in their right mind. The smell reminds me of the first of every month when the hookers come to the hospital for their shots. In the summer it takes 2 days to get that smell out of the place------YUCKIE.
