Oh my.
While waiting for the primitive gleefest to begin over the death of an American hero, I thought this campfire would be of interest.

THE BLUEGRASS PRIMITIVE
Original message
Stupid can't be fixed...
I know it is not politically correct to call your opponents "stupid". You can never persuade them to your point of view by calling them names. But there comes a time when we need to face the cold hard facts. Republicans are stupid.
They never want to raise taxes. For anything. They believe they can bring in more money into the Treasury by cutting taxes. They cite Ronald Reagan as an example. However, Ronald Reagan had to agree to raise taxes when his deficits reached record heights. Also, if the FICA taxes had not been raised on average working people, his deficits would have been much larger. He even raised taxes by taxing unemployment insurance, the most vulnerable people in our society.
It is stupid to think you can balance the budget without raising taxes. At the same time, it is stupid to think you can spend over a $trillion dollars every two years on the military and not have to pay for it. It cannot be done. They are living in a fantasy world.
It is not possible to negotiate with stupid. They do not deal with reality or the facts. This is a problem that cannot be fixed with "bi-partisanship".
Oh dear. Must be a wall-sized mirror there, the bluegrass primitive has.

2. They do sound stupid, I agree, but they are crafty, and have played this game for a LONG TIME. They don't 'believe' what 'we' say they do; they say what works for them. Dems/Libs haven't figured out how to deal with it successfully. Its about time we do.

3. I hope you'll write letters to the editor, etc.
The problem is that between the Internet and other media, it's faster and easier to spread lies, and of course people eat them up. But we should use the same media to confront the lies. If you change even a few minds, you'll have done your job.
The right's concerted effort to canonize Reagan has been very effective, and of course there are a lot of people with short memories and quite a few who are too young to have any understanding of the Reagan years. So when some bozo starts lying about U.S. policy in Central America or the Middle East during the '80s, or the state of the economy back then, or tax policy, call them out. Don't let a lie become the accepted norm.
In response to the old hag primitive, one is compelled to quote dandi's most-excellent evaluation of Doug's ex-wife:
Yes, Beth Lamborghini is stupid, but she is also cunning. She's in the group that knows it's bullshit but puts it out there anyway. She knows how to play the other lemmings to the hilt. She's a master of the circular argument, the appeal to emotion, and how to wield the most potent weapon in the DU poster's arsenal: The dishonest implication that her detractor is "defending the freepers" if anyone takes issue with her flights of fancy. She's just an all-around, world-class asshole.

Yes, the DUmmies are truly broken and can't be fixed. They like to say that every tax cut has caused higher deficits, but it isn't true. Following almost every major tax cut, revenues have jumped, but spending has almost always jumped much more, resulting in higher deficits.

Sorry frank.

merged.
And it's called cutting spending -- that's the other side of the coin. But that's why they call you DUmmies, after all.

The DUchebags just refuse to let results get in the way of how they think the world should work.

1981 - beginning Reagan's term, total government income 599.3 billion, deficit 79. billion (http://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/yearrev1981_0.html)
1989 - ending Reagan's term, total government income 991.2 billion, deficit 152.6 billion (http://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/yearrev1989_0.html) - with no more Russian threat and way more revenue every year. Win-win situation

You got it! Every time the Fed gets a little ahead, they spend twice as much as they take in. If this DUmmie wasn't such a simpleton, he could look it up. Alas, that will never happen. He'd rather pull his "facts" from his nether region and smear them on the wall of the DUmp!!
ETA: ( suck on that, lurking DUmmies! Google is your friend! )

You want to know how to deal with it? Easy. Accept it as the fact it is. What you say we believe is inaccurate, as the bluegrass primitives post clearly demonstrates. Anything other than nodding in agreement with what I just told you and you'll never "deal with it successfully."
