Obama to spell out new healthcare plan
By Donna Smith – 1 hr 19 mins ago
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama is expected to publish his healthcare plan as early as Sunday or Monday, combining features of the two Democratic bills passed by the Senate and House of Representatives, congressional aides and healthcare advocates said on Friday.
The administration's bill will aim to jump-start the stalled healthcare overhaul and comes just days ahead of a planned televised White House summit with congressional Republicans, who are calling on Democrats to scrap the bills and start over with a far less sweeping proposal.
Democrats are struggling to push healthcare legislation over the finish line in the face of sagging public support and solid Republican opposition bolstered by recent election victories in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey.
The legislation the White House will post on its website is expected to reflect common ground negotiated over the past several weeks by House and Senate Democratic leaders.
Those agreements are likely to be combined as a privileged budget reconciliation bill, which only needs a simple 51-vote majority to pass the 100-member Senate instead of the 60-vote supermajority that has become routine in the Senate and gives Republicans power to block the healthcare bill.

They really are itching for the bloodbath in the midterm elections, aren't they?
-
They never know when to give up, do they?
GOOD.
-
So they're opting for political seppuku. Good for them. It will make this year's election wins for conservatives all the sweeter.
-
Just hope we can undo all the mess after they pass it...ugh
-
They have NO idea what Americans are capable of. When the death panels tell people they have to wait for 3 years for a life saving surgery the sh-- will hit the fan! People will NOT blame Bush. they will blame Obama and the democrats.
When a doctor offers suicide instead of medical care....just wait folks. If the democrats thought this summer's town halls were bad...they ain't seen nothing yet.
America still has a LOT of pioneer blood. We are not the cowed Europeans meekly accepting death because a bureaucrat tells us its cheaper to die.
Let this pass. Go ahead. Not even 10 million illegal votes will save your party if it does...

Wow, how arrogant and out-of-touch do you have to be to not realize you should be focusing on jobs and the economy? They've set the record on stupid.

Maybe that is why his approval is back down to -17. Some have said that Lord Zero has made HCR his legacy. Everything rests on him getting this through, no matter the detriment it causes to the country. It may go back to the remark about HCR being his Waterloo.

I'm hoping this will be the Dims' and Zero's Little Big Horn....

Does not surprise me one bit. I just hope the Repubs have their hip boots on and are prepared for the bullshit 6 hour session Feb 25 on health care. They need to have their talking points down pat and not allow Obama and the Democraps to sandbag them. This is war and the Repub need to understand that.
If this shit gets passed, many incumbent Repubs might get terminated.

I agree. When November comes around it will make the Alamo look like a picnic.

You have got that shit right. A bureaucrat telling me to go home and die or that I am too old to have an operation is not acceptable. Therefore, I will have to leave the USA because I don't want to spend my golden years in prison.

Well, I think it would benefit the GOP more if they actually did pass this garbage by reconciliation, but I'm still doubtful they can or will. I don't think they probably have the 51 votes, they're bluffing.

I sincerely hope you're right. But why would the say they have the votes if they don't? Wouldn't that make them look worse? I'm thinking that some watered-down version will pass exactly along party lines, and then it will be impossible to remove.
I hope the Repubs do the right thing and drag this out for as long as possible.
-
You know, what would be really great is if Obama could propose a simple three-point bill -
One point that both sides could agree to (Medicare reform possibly);
One point proposed by the Dems that the GOP doesn't like but could force itself to live with (Don't really want to pick one of these myself);
One point proposed by the GOP that the Dems don't like but could force themselves to live with (Either a limit on tort liability for all damages or some types of damages even if a high one, or policy portability).
Of course, nothing that sane will happen. The GOP will be confronted with a blend of two unacceptable bills, on neither of which they had any say, told to take it or be derided as naysayers by the Administration and their chained dogs in the MSM. I hope they will have the balls to say no instead of being flattered by the Presidential attention, but I'm not sure they will.

Problem is, there are many Repubs who would rather look good in the media than do what the American people want. They sahould have told "Bummer" the butthead to sit on it and twirl! He just invited the media to his little freak show so he can tell the American people, "See, I was reaching out and they will not meet me halfway. They really are the party of partisan politics. This is the reason they weren't invited to aid in the healthcare debate".
The guy is just grandstanding. As DUmb as some of the voters are in this country, I won't be surprised if it works.

Lord Zero has his proposal online. http://www.whitehouse.gov/health-care-meeting/proposal

Mitch McConnel better tell Obama to shove his meeting - everyone's still looking through "Obama's bill", it's just more socialism at first glance. This WH is tone-deaf.

This isn't the first time they've claimed to have the votes when they didn't. Several Democrats and Joe Lieberman have said they they wouldn't pass a bill of this magnitude by reconciliation, that's supposed to be a process for a little add-on to a budget bill, not sweeping legislation like this monstrosity.
-
Are they going to try to ram through the public option as well??

Amen!!!This is like watching magicians....slide of hand ....look over there , not at what I'm really doing.....

Regarding this dog and pony show Feb 25, health care meeting, the butter-butt Repubs should have demanded that #1 they get to pick who attends on their side and #2 that they get 1/2 of the time. Why should Obummer lock out Repub Congressional Doctors that have forgotten more about health care than him or his Democratic cronies. Republicans just piss me off with their lack of having a spine.

Hoyer: Comprehensive health bill may be no go
Feb 23, 1:01 PM (ET)
By ERICA WERNER
WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic congressional leaders confronted the reality Tuesday that they may not be able to pass the comprehensive health care overhaul sought by President Barack Obama. Republican leaders prepared to do everything in their power to make sure they can't.
Democrats saw the sweeping health bill that Obama unveiled ahead of a bipartisan health care summit Thursday as their last, best chance at a top-to-bottom remake of the nation's health care system that would usher in near-universal health coverage. But some were clear-eyed about the difficulties after a year of corrosive debate and the loss of their filibuster-proof supermajority in the Senate.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said comprehensive reform would be best but it's not all or nothing.
"We may not be able to do all. I hope we can do all, a comprehensive piece of legislation that will provide affordable, accessible, quality health care to all Americans," Hoyer said at his weekly media briefing. "But having said that, if we can't, then you know me - if you can't do a whole, doing part is also good. I mean there are a number of things I think we can agree on."
The areas of disagreement have been more obvious. Senate Republicans on Tuesday rejected the White House plea for a simple up-or-down vote on Obama's health care plan, indicating they would offer hundreds of amendments to stop the legislation.

May the Dems go down in flames, and Ann Coulter be correct--in that this is all a show designed to placate the Left.
