Army Investigating Poisoned Food Plot
February 18, 2010 - 6:35 PM | by: Justin Fishel
Fox News has learned that the Army is investigating allegations that five individuals attempted to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army's Criminal Investigation Division, told Fox's Catherine Herridge that these are still just allegations, and so far "there is no credible information to support them". Nevertheless, an investigation is ongoing Grey said.
Two sources at Fort Jackson revealed that the five accused individuals were detained in December, and all were enrolled in an Arabic translation training program, referred to in the Army as "Lima 09". "Each of them uses Arabic as his first language", one source told Fox.

CBN Exclusive: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina
CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas and are in custody. The five men were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.
The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.
A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the "Fort Jackson Five" may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.
Coming as it does on the heels of November's Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.
Stay tuned to this blog for more details.

Hi,
In the political thread I posted a link to Rubio's CPAC speech today. You likely would enjoy his remarks on that very subject.

Fort Jackson Poison Plot - nothing there
FoxNews says that the US Army's Criminal Investigation Command (CID) is investigating reports of a plot by Muslim soldiers, enlisted as translators, to "poison the food supply" at Fort Jackson, SC, next to Columbia, the state's capital.
~snip~
I finished my Army career as the chief of public affairs for CID Command and became fairly expert in investigative procedures. If, after two months of investigation, CID agents have "no credible information to support the allegations," then I feel very safe saying that there is nothing to see there, move along. Nor should you take Mr. Grey's statement as misdirection or cover. If there were substantive leads for an ongoing investigation, he would have said simply that the investigation continues and then said nothing more about it. Army PAOs do not do cover up, they just shut up. After all, as my colonel kept reminding me when I was chief of media relations for XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, "you will never get into trouble for saying too little."
A word about CID. It is a major command of the Army, meaning that its commanding general (Brig. Gen. Colleen McGuire) reports to the Army's chief of staff. The full name is US Army Criminal Investigation Command, but the abbreviation is USACIDC, pronounced (practically all Army acronyms are pronounced rather than spelled out) "You-suh-sid-see." However, the most common referral is simply, CID, which is spelled out, "See-Eye-Dee."

They do both.

Couple of things on this.
First, Article 31 is a lot more demanding than Miranda and its 5th and 6th Amendment rules which apply to civilians, so no, they would not have been interrogated as foreign terrorists but would have had to have been read their Article 31 rights prior to any questioning.
Second, I don't know about Jackson in particular, but in TRADOC Soldiers in training are not usually assigned to DFACs, the DFAC ops are usually contracted out, for reasons of both quality and making the sure the Soldier gets the full program of instruction done on time without missing too many training hours for bullshit details like KP, which would get them wastefully recycled. Those POIs are pared down to the minimum time to get the maximum of Soldiers through, there is no time built into the POI for screwing around with extraneous duties. If they get punished with extra duty, they may find themselves getting delivered into the hands of the DFAC manager or mess steward after the training day is done for cleanup, but they would not normally have any access to the actual food service operation at the DFAC. Therefore this entire scenario doesn't really add up.
Third, I hope they eventually capture the vile criminals responsible for all the thousands of non-fatal poisonings at the 5-68 Armor and 1-2 Arty mess halls in 1976-79.

I'm with you, DAT. I can't tell you how many times I got "non-fatal" food poisoning from the Navy Galleys during that time. One instance was actually solved. Turns out that the cooks were storing hot foods in the refrigerator, right next to the eggs. Once I moved off base, the food poisoning ceased..... Hmmmm.......

Possible Fort Jackson Threat Probed
The Army has been looking for two months into allegations an attempt was being made to poison soldiers at Fort Jackson through the food supply, but the largest basic training post in South Carolina says no credible information to support the allegations has been found.
Fort Jackson issued this statement late Thursday night: "In December 2009, five Soldiers were investigated for potential verbal threats against fellow Soldiers. While the investigation continues there is currently no credible evidence to substantiate the allegations. At no time was there any danger to the Fort Jackson community."
A local law enforcement official familiar with the reports who insisted on anonymity said Thursday that there was no attempt made to poison any soldiers, adding that a rumor started when several disgruntled soldiers shot their mouths off late last year. There was never any threat, nothing credible, he insisted.
The investigation was first reported by Fox News and the Christian Broadcasting Network.
Both media outlets reported that five suspects were detained in December and were part of an Arabic translation program called "09 Lima." According to an article in the Army Times, "The 09 Lima program puts native speakers of Arabic, Dari, Pashtu, Farsi or Kurdish in uniform to serve alongside troops in combat."
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said he could not release any specifics of the investigation by the Army's Criminal Investigative Service to protect its integrity.
"I can say that, according to CID spokespersons, they have not found any credible information to substantiate the allegations," Garver, who's based at the Pentagon, said in an e-mail.
He said he is unaware of any arrests made in the investigation.
Fort Jackson puts more than 50,000 men and women through entry-level and advanced training courses every year. Its food service spans an array of some 13 dining halls and about 40,000 hot meals are served on the base daily.

You may feel that way, but I certainly don't. I have served with many Muslims, all of which fought against the kind of hatred that some of their clerics preach.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, no more then all Christians are abortion clinic bombers.
-
I was at Ft Jackson for a week in June of 1980 bfore being sent to Benning for my Infantry basic/AIT. I hated the food then and that was in the mess hall there. Graned it was one of the worse heat waves to hit hte US during that summmer but taht food sucked more then I can tell anyone. I'm betting then it had to do with the heat ruining the food as much as anything. this is excatly what DAT has described. The civiliains run alot of the mess halls now days. Hardly anyone gets KP duty because of that. If they were trying to poison they would have to do it in a way that wouldn't be caught by some one in the mess hall which is going to be hard because they go almost 24 hours a day in Basic.

"Not muslims are terrorists".
In this theater all terrorists were/are muslims.
Moles...
Good enough for me.
Bedsides, when have we seen ANY of your muslim brethren speaking out against their murdering comrades and disowning them?
Never would be the correct answer here.
Why would that be?

Yes, actually all of them I have ever talked to about it believe that they are scumbags that are disgracing the religion.
One of them was actually born outside of Baghdad. His family moved to the US in the 1970's, to get away from that kind of life. He joined the Marines in 1989, and volunteered to serve in Gulf War I.
One I serve with now tells me that she wishes that those "people" (I will not use the word she does because it will be censored out) would stop claiming they are Islamic, because it is obvious they break every tennant of the faith in their "insane hatred" (her words).
Trying to claim all Muslims are terrorist killers is no different then the radicals claim that all Christians are Crusaders that want to destroy their faith. It is racist, hatefull, and wrong. In my opinion anybody with beliefs like that should just stand in line and pick up their robes and a cross to burn.

1. Islam is not a race. Dislike of, distrust of, or even prejudice against it isn't RACISM, sir.
2. It seems to me that being a Crusader is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when the fact that the crusades were a direct response to Islamic hegemony in the first damned place is taken into the equation. Ask Charles Martel some time, how "ashamed" he might be to be a crusader, throwing muslim invaders out of his lands.

I'm with Mushroom, and if Mexicans and Jews can claim they're 'races' (And they both do) the actual meaning of the word is so corrupted it means nothing with any anthropological precision at all, 'Muslim' is as close as either of them. There's been some pretty vile stuff posted lately about slitting the throats of all of them down to the infants, which is totally unsat thinking.

Just because 99% of the "Muslim Street" aren't pointing guns at the guys with the white hats doesn't make them allies in the war on terror, sir. The biggest reason that all of al Qaeda isn't a greasy smear on a rock somewhere is that they seem to have no shortage of accomplices who will allow these vermin to hide behind them when Uncle Sam's fist comes looking to scoop them up, feed them worship with them, treat their wounds, supply the materials needed for carrying on the jihad - from video tape for Osama bin Slapnuts to rant on to the "common household chemicals in the proper proportions". And let's not forget the care they provide for jihadist's families, so that they can focus on the mission of killing infidels for Allah.
So long as the vast majority of Islam stands silently as a crowd for Islamofascists to blend into, the vast majority of Islam is the enemy; whether it's politically correct to say so or not.
Oh; and the "vile stuff" that gets posted doesn't raise an eyebrow with me so much as the vile, hideous barbaric attrocities that the "peaceful" followers of Islam have actually done under license of their religion and culture.
-

OK, then let me be accurate, it is Islamophobia.
And do not confuse the claimed reason for the Crusades with the truth, that there were many reasons. Among them the desire to push back the expanding Arab empires, an excess of sons in the European nobility (who could not inherit land so had to conquer their own), and the preaching of the Church to convert by the sword.
And they were about taking the "Holy Lands" from the Muslims, not retaking Muslim conquered land.

Fort Jackson: The Latest
Erick Stakelbeck
CBN News Terrorism Analyst
This morning, I spoke to Army CID spokesman Christopher Gray and learned more details about a possible poisoning plot that I first reported here yesterday after CBN confirmed with Patrick Jones of Fort Jackson's Public Affairs Office and a reliable source with intimate knowledge of the investigation. Here is the latest on what we do know.
According to Gray, the Army is investigating allegations that a group of soldiers from the 09 Lima program (more on that later in this post) at Fort Jackson--which is based in South Carolina--had talked about poisoning food in the base's mess hall. The men were questioned about two months ago, around Christmas. Gray said that to protect the integrity of the investigation, he could not comment further. He stressed that the investigation is "open and continuing."
CBN News also spoke to a Department of Homeland Security official with knowledge of the investigation who wished to remain anonymous. The official confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and said that someone in the Lima 09 program overheard five Muslim colleagues talking about poisoning food at the base. The person then reported the men, who were brought in for questioning.
The DHS official stressed that after the terrorist massacre at Fort Hood, the Army is taking a zero tolerance policy towards any potential threatening statements and is now extremely sensitive about any allegations in that regard.
Terrorism expert Patrick Poole, an anti-terrorism consultant for the U.S. military and law enforcement, told CBN News that "if this incident had become public in late December while the military was still working on the Ft. Hood report it would have no doubt been catastrophic. What exactly happened at Ft. Jackson and why is this only coming out now? That's a question that Congress should be asking. "
"As noted in the Washington Times last month," Poole continued. "My colleagues and I have been warning of jihadist threats - both external and internal - for several years. The Pentagon has entirely ignored us and the Ft. Hood report released last month is evidence of the culture of willful blindness that wants to pretend this threat doesn't exist. Regardless of how the Ft. Jackson incident is resolved, it demonstrates that this threat is not going away."
I spoke today to Army spokesman Christopher Garver, who said the five men are not currently in custody. He was unclear whether the men who were questioned were U.S.citizens. And that brings us to another interesting wrinkle to this story.
According to my colleague, CBN Military Correspondent Chuck Holton, the 09 Lima program, which these men are a part of:
Quote
...is specifically geared towards non-US citizens who bring to the table one very in-demand skill - the ability to speak fluent Arabic, Dari, Pashto, or some other needed language. But these recruits also have a handicap - their grasp of the English language is not sufficient to allow them to make it through basic training. So the 09 Lima program puts them through a sort of pre-basic basic, where they learn American culture, Army culture and work on their English language skills. Once they finish the course, they are then able to enter normal basic training. It' is a very small program, with something less than forty recruits in each class.
Holton continues:
Quote
Here's the interesting part. According to Lt. Col. Frank Demith, these recruits are offered an "expedited citizenship program, once they serve one day of honorable active duty."
Military service has always been a way for non-citizen US residents to obtain citizenship, and thousands have performed honorably in service to our country before it actually became their country.
Though the Army must certainly have a thorough vetting process in place to try and avoid a scenario like that described by Erick Stakelbeck's recent blog, in the case of the 09 Lima program, the ability to receive "expedited American citizenship" must present a tempting opportunity for jihadi extremists with ulterior motives.
This is relevant not only because of the Fort Hood case, but because in the last month, there was an incident (see here (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE60T1AJ20100130)) of an interpreter in Afghanistan murdering U.S. troops.
-

Oh Lord, here we go, again. Let me make this clear. A "phobia" is a fear. I don't think that there are many here that truly "fear" Muslims. Let's find another word instead of some PC word dreamed up by the left winged idiots to marginalize those that loathe and disdain Islamic radicals. One thing for certain, nobody I know "fears" Islamic Radicals. "Islamophobia", "Homophobia" are words merely used to make us normal people "appear" insensitive or hateful. I don't like the homosexual lifestyle, either, and I'm NOT afraid of them.
-
To be more specific, a phobia is an IRRATIONAL fear.
Given the actions of the Muslim world for the last 40 years or so, would being cautious regarding the actions of said Muslims be irrational?
