The Taliban's top military commander has been captured in Pakistan in a joint operation by Pakistani and U.S. intelligence forces, sources confirmed to Fox News late Monday.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, described as the No. 2 behind Taliban founder and Usama bin Laden associate Mullah Muhammad Omar, has been in Pakistani custody for several days.
Baradar was captured in Karachi, Pakistan, in a raid by Pakistan's Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, with CIA operatives accompanying the Pakistanis, the New York Times first reported Monday. Pakistan has been leading the interrogation of Baradar, but Americans are also involved, officials said.
Baradar heads the Taliban's military council and was elevated in the body after the 2006 death of military chief Mullah Akhtar Mohammed Usmani. Baradar is known to coordinate the movement's military operations throughout the south and southwest of Afghanistan. His area of direct responsibility stretches over Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces.
If confirmed, Baradar's arrest would be a major setback for the Taliban.
He may also have information on the whereabouts of Omar and bin Laden.

I hate to tell the DUmmies this, but as soon as he was captured there was already a new "number 2" man already in place. There have been plenty of "number 2" leaders in al Qaeda killed or captured.

"WE" didn't get him--the ISI did. And they're not going to do SHIT unless THEY want to. Bottom line, this guy, as one analyist on FNC said this morning, "Went off the reservation," which is why the ISI felt the need to take him down when they did.

I hate to tell the DUmmies this, but as soon as he was captured there was already a new "number 2" man already in place. There have been plenty of "number 2" leaders in al Qaeda killed or captured.
Yeah, I remember all the posts on DU every time this happened. "We captured how many #2s now, but Bush still can't get Osama. Bush failed! Bush sucks! I hate Bush! blah blah blah..."

Yeah, purely an ISI thing with support from our intel community, NOT a military op of ours...Karachi is about as far from the Afghan border as you can get and still be in Pakistan. All of which leads to the inevitable unanswered questions about just what is REALLY going on here, because there is obviously some deeper game afoot within the ISI and Taliban for this to have gone off at all. It sure as Hell isn't because the ISI has suddenly decided Islamists are bad news.

All of which leads to the inevitable unanswered questions about just what is REALLY going on here, because there is obviously some deeper game afoot within the ISI and Taliban for this to have gone off at all. It sure as Hell isn't because the ISI has suddenly decided Islamists are bad news.
How many US tax dollars did it cost us to bribe some packy general into coughing this guy up?

That won't stop 0Bama from claiming credit, or at least it won't stop Joe Biden. He claims Iraq is an 0Bama success.
