Mitt Romney, the former Republican governor of Massachusetts, was physically assaulted Monday by a fellow passenger on a flight from Vancouver, Canada, to Los Angeles.

Romney, a 2008 presidential candidate, asked a passenger who was seated and reclining in front of his wife, Ann, to move his seat upright during take off.

"The passenger became physically violent. Governor Romney did not retaliate, but instead let the airline crew respond to the incident." Said Romney Spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Romney was not injured, but those familiar with the incident tell Fox News, "there was physical contact with Governor Romney." Ann Romney was not touched in the incident.

The plane returned to the gate and the passenger was arrested by the police.

The Romneys have been in Vancouver since Friday for the Olympic Games.

Mitt Romney was the former president and CEO of the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Romneys were guests of honor at these games.

Hi,

As a guy who travelled 40+ weeks a year for well over 30 years, I would pass along this advice.  I have had that same issue many times and long ago gave up on confronting the idiot in the seat in front of me.

First of all, there is a reason for the rule.  If anyone has ever had a pilot abort the takeoff, or you were in a wreck you need that space in front of you as you lurch forward.  If that seat in front of you is back you stand a much higher chance of injury.

So what I would do is signal the flight attendent, never say a word but when I had his/her attention I would make a gesture like I was pushing the seat forward.  Now the airlines and the flight attendent have a big problem.  If you tell them they are required to walk up to the passenger, smile and assist them in bringing their seat upright.  If they do not, and God forbid you are injured, they will pay dearly for their neglect.  I can say that 100% of the time when I asked for help, they did their job.

Person in front of me never realized I squealed on them and most of the time they were embarrassed because they were trying to get away with something.

Excellent advice.  My only  comment on this:  "Romney flies commercial"?  Who knew.   This would have never happened to John F. Kerry aboard the "Flying Squirrel".

Hmmm...wonder if the guy was a McCain supporter.

Vancouver sure isn't looking very good over the last week.  First the luger, then the screwed up opening ceremony, then the bad snow, and finally the broken Zambonis.

This is rapidly going from the Olympics to the Eh-lympics.

Hi,

I sat next to Jack Kemp for four hours on the way to CA and had a wonderful discussion with him about supply side economics.  Back in those days you used to see a lot of folks like that, before lobbyists started paying for their charter jets.

Sounds like all is as it should be in the age of Obama. So, maybe O-lympics?
