Oh my.
I thought it would break the primitives' hearts, but the announcement came too late on Thursday night for the primitives to know about it, and so perhaps the primitives will be disconsolate and discombobulated today, after they wake up.

Patrick Kennedy won't run for reelection
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy will not run for reelection, he will announce in a television advertisement to air Sunday night.
"I will not be a candidate for reelection this year," the 42-year-old Kennedy, first elected in 1994, said in an emotional advertisement that mentions his years of service and the death of his father, Sen.Edward M. Kennedy, last summer.

1. He's not been that great a rep for RI. He's periodically gotten into trouble.

2. Just curious.
How long has it been since there wasn't a Kennedy in Washington?
Too long.

9. JFK first became a U.S. Representive January 3, 1947
2010 minus 1947 = 63 years there has been at least one Kennedy in D.C.

6. the next Kennedy in DC will be that grandson of Teddy that we saw during the memorial
Ted Kennedy was rare. none of the other Kennedys right now seem to have what he had and what made him so popular. but that grandson seemed like he might have it.
it's not enough to have the Kennedy name.

8. I thought that Teddy Jnr. spoke most impressively at his father's funeral.
And he has the looks, the personality, the humour as well.
Obviously, he doesn't have an interest or he would have made a run by now, but what a shame. I found him much more appealing than his brother in every way.

7. Patrick Kennedy's Resignation (Video)
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/02/patrick-kenn...
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) announced his retirement from Congress tonight. Kennedy has served there since 1994. On Sunday, the Providence Journal reports, Kennedy will run a commercial during 60 Minutes announcing his decision to the people of Rhode Island. See the video after the jump.

I think the tularetom DUmb**** is onto something. The drunk and drug-addled congress"man" from RI could move to MA and run for
The Swimmer's Brown's seat. After, all, just as I posted in the thread in BN, he's a Kennedy--he probably thinks he's "entitled" to that seat.

And doesn't that sum up the DUmmies' political intelligence. A studied background of history, economics, and thoughtful governmental practices are unimportant qualities in a candidate. It sounds like the qualifications to be judge on American Idol. Purely juvenile celebrity-worship. Look what it got us.
It reminds me of the time when Caroline was being eyed for the replacement senator for NY. I was reading comments on blogs, and some stupid woman chirped up and said, "I think Caroline would make a simply lovely senator for New York."
Florence King said it first, not me. She said, "I think it's time to take the vote away from women."

The DUmmies discuss the BFEE, then discuss how wonderful it is that there has been a Kennedy in Government for 63 years. :mental:
I'm very uncomfortable with cults of personality leading to the election of people. The fact that they don't seem to care about individual views, just the "Kennedy" at the end is rather frightening. We left Monarchies and family succession when we declared our independence. We don't have a "House of Lords" in the US, so why would they want to create one?
edit for rather severe grammatical error.

What? You don't want Beau Biden to run for his daddy's seat? :fuelfire:

I agree with you. The grandson of a gangster and son of a murderer isn't through with Washington buy a long shot.

Nothing worse than someone who fancies himself and intellectual with no real world experience. Joe may have been a crook but at least he earned his fortune in a rather risky business. The rest (with perhaps the exception of Jack and Bobby) have lived off of it as an entitlement and flash their name around as an excuse to get away with anything. No wonder they want their constituents to be under the thumb of the government. This DUmmie need to be led is kind of ironic considering all the "freedoms" they think they stand for. In reality, the "freedoms" they tout are the ones than allow them to be naughty children without adult responsibility. I read something the other day from some leftist columnist about Sara Palin and how they didn't want her to be president for the simple reason that she was too much like the hoi polloi. That he wanted a leader who was an elitist, smarter than they who they could look up to. It just gags me that an American would think like that. When you consider that's supposedly what we have now (the zero has learned to play one on TV) who has turned out to be one of the dumbest presidents in history, well that's what happens when you want style over substance, a cult figure who can't possibly live up to the fable that he allowed to grow up around him. Style is for shoes and purses, not presidents.
