WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Representative Patrick Kennedy, the son of the late Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, will not seek re-election to Congress this November, according to media reports on Thursday.
Kennedy, 42, will announce his retirement on Friday, Politico reported, citing Democratic insiders.
The Rhode Island lawmaker was first elected to Congress in 1994. Kennedy is serving his eighth term in the House of Representatives after first being elected in 1994. His father, a liberal icon in the Senate and champion of healthcare reform, died last August after almost 47 years in office.
Patrick Kennedy has had brushes with controversy in recent years, most recently in 2006 when he sought help for dependency on prescription drugs after crashing his car into a security barrier in Washington.
His retirement would further complicate Democratic efforts to maintain their majorities in the House and Senate in congressional elections this November. Republican Scott Brown won a startling victory for Edward Kennedy's Senate seat in a special election last month.
A member of Kennedy's family has served in Congress since his uncle, John F. Kennedy, later U.S. president, was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946.

He looks like a lameassed liberal douche that has never had to work a day in his life and spent all of it sucking off the family name and the taxpayer teat without helping the nation in any way.
-
My guess is that somebody showed him a poll where he was getting his ass beat like a steel drum - and it was the good poll.

There was a poll a little while back. (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,39711.0/highlight,patrick+kennedy.html) But I guess the numbers got much worse since then.

And another one goes
Saying she wants to spend more time with her family, Rep. Diane Watson, D-Los Angeles, announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election to the 33rd Congressional District seat she has held since 2001.
“I appreciate the trust ... that you have placed in me,†Watson said at her district office, surrounded by supporters, including county Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and the Rev. Cecil “Chip†Murray.
The 76-year-old lawmaker said she wants to spend more “quality time†with her mother, who recently marked her 100th birthday and broke her hip.
She did not make an endorsement for her successor in the heavily Democratic 33rd District, which includes Culver City, Baldwin Hills, Ladera Heights, Windsor Hills, Hancock Park, Hollywood, the Wilshire corridor and Koreatown. ...

But I can't see anyone other than a Dem winning that seat from the description given here.

Then again, did we ever think a Republican would win in Mass, especially right after Teddy kicking the bucket?

Think as libtard as Nancy Pelosi's district. A "bad" poll for Watson would still have her in the high-70's.
Now if Loretta Sanchez was calling it quits, THEN you might get me excited.

The leading Democratic challenger to Sen. Jim DeMint has decided to end his short-lived campaign to unseat the conservative South Carolina Republican, citing the need to spend more time with his family.
The Democrat, Rock Hill trial attorney Chad McGowan, had struggled to gain traction and raise money since announcing his candidacy in October. McGowan pledged to return all of his campaign donations and said he "will be fighting from the sidelines" to defeat DeMint in November.
