Title: Thursday , meh
Post by: thundley4 on February 11, 2010, 08:31:16 AM
9 degrees this morning with sunshine predicted, but the weekend is looking miserable. Snow flurries forecast Friday through Sunday.  :censored:

Snow.  Not sleet/sneet/freezing rain/blah blah blah.  Snow.  Currently 32 degrees, and expected 3-4 inches.  Looks pretty.  But, it is turning into puddles on the road, and we are going to continue to get snow throughout the day.  So tomorrow all of our roads will be ice rinks.  Woot.

Upper 20's & low 30's for the next few days.  Gonna feel like a heat wave.  :whatever:

Mid-30's for highs, no snow to shovel, and my next workday is next Tuesday.

Life is good.  Time to run down to Sam's Club and stock up on some pet food, frozen goods, and meat.

This is more in line with tomorrow, but what the hey:

I'll be leaving home at 0300 for a 5.5 hour trip up to a point about 20 miles north of Davenport, IA.

Weather outlook right now is temps reasonable (mid-30s), snow flurries (damn), but otherwise doable.

But I gotta get my bass trombone to the horn doctor. He's gonna put on a little gizmo that's gonna prevent my left arm and hand from falling asleep, going numb, collapsing. I can get only about 30 minutes of practice in before things start falling apart. I push it and it gets worse.

Playing the bass trombone is an ergonomic mofo.

After the work is done, I've eliminated all possible excuses. So it means to work harder.

Dug out of another 20" this morning on top of the 28" from the weekend.  So we have officially broken all snow records since the time of glaciers and woolly mammoths, blah, blah, blah . . . (the weather guessers on the news are all so frigging chipper about this stuff).  Anyway, made it to work -- an hour early actually.

What on earth is north of Davenport?  Clinton?  DeWitt?  Not many big cities in that area, other than Dubuque.

Ralph, Lee Stofer lives out in the middle of nowhere.

Address says Camanche, but I think the more practical next-big-town is DeWitt.

Currently 28 with a chill of 19....supposedly we are getting some flurries tomorrow evening into Saturday....but they are calling for another "winter event" on Sunday and Monday. The weather guy also said our temps are to be below average for the next 7-10 days.

I live with someone who HATES cold...he's starting to make "Grumpy" sound nice and cheerful.  ::)

Have already done a report this morning and waiting to hear if either of the offers I wrote Monday are being accepted. PLeeeeeeeeeeeasssssseee...accept the offers!!!....my checkbook is in ICU and in dire need of transfusions....Last Rites have been given.  :(

I need to make some comfort food for dinner....just have to come up with something.

I did find a recipe for bread pudding with white chocolate and dried cranberries....which got a bit of a sneer until I suggested dried cherries instead.  :uhsure:

Dried cherries explode with flavor. M is in good company. My thoughts of chocolate extend in your general direction. Money does make one momentarily happy....

I'm not a huge fan of cherry flavoring.

The recipe calls for a hard sauce made with whiskey....not going to do that. Have any ideas what flavoring I could use in place of the whiskey? I very much like B&B, but I don't think it will work with the cherries.

Rum?

If you were going with something non-alcohol, perhaps some orange flavoring.  Orange is grand with chocolate.

I finally--finally--finished digging us out. Close to 4 feet of snow in less than a week. Wow. Schools are closed here 'til Tuesday.

I thought about orange....as I love it with chocolate, but wasn't sure with the dried cherries. I have black cherry rum which is great, but thought it would be too much with all the sugar in the sauce, and I think dried cherries are sweeter than fresh.

Personally I'd rather use craisins, but my Boys do not like cranberries.

Maybe you could do half and half???  Or just make it the way you like it and tell em you ain't no Burger King.  Heh.

Or, don't do either of the fruits, and make an orange hard sauce with the chocolate.

I found another one too, that instead of french bread it uses cinnamon bread and has apple pie filling in it.

I'm wanting comfort food, can you tell?  :-)

I want that.  No, I NEED THAT.  Please post recipe.  I have an old loaf of cinnamon bread that is needing a final destination.

Deb, why not a simple bechamel sauce made with the dried cherries? Somewhat thin, not thick. Hell, just sweat the pre-soaked cherries in a little butter, then add heavy cream to the pan, cook down till it coats a spoon. No alcohol that way.

You could even augment the bechamel sauce by adding a tablespoon of cocoa to the butter while you're sweating the cherries. Cherries and chocolate = yum.

I was thinking about adding some white creme de cocoa to the sauce. Making the sauce with just some butter, cream, bit of sugar, little cornstarch, and a bit of vanilla. I agree with you, that it needs to be a thinner sauce.

Hey Deb, I need to find the recipe, but I will post it for you.

Hey Thor.  Real snow!  Yup! Real snow, without the icy yuck.  HERE!

Got some moderate snow bands moving through here now, too. Not nearly as much as southern areas of the state. Ardmore is expecting 5 to 6 inches from this storm, I believe.

Denison, TX is expecting 4-6" of this white fluffy crap. The only saving grace is that it will be gone in a day or two.
