Teacher charged after 2 principals shot at school
Associated Press - February 10, 2010 4:25 PM ET
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Officials say a Knoxville elementary school principal has been critically injured and her assistant principal was wounded during a shooting at their office. Police identified the suspect as a co-worker.
Police said they charged 48-year-old Mark Stephen Foster with two counts of attempted first-degree murder after the shooting at Inskip Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon. The school Web site identifies Foster as a fourth-grade teacher at Inskip.
University of Tennessee Medical Center officials said Principal Elisa Luna was in critical condition and Assistant Principal Amy Brace was in stable condition.
No students were at school during the early afternoon shooting because they had been dismissed early for snow. A school spokeswoman said classes would canceled for the rest of the week.

20. His contract wasn't renewed.
Which leads to more questions as to whether there were financial pressures motivating the shootings, or whether the two administrators, who both look like they are barely out of college, were harassing him all year.

21. One was 40, the other 41. Sounds like a "blame the victim" statement. Without knowing
all the details why would you jump to a conclusion like they were harassing him? Never mind, "both look like they are barely out of college" looks and age mean everything right. :banghead:

34. Have you ever seen a teacher be non renewed?
It's an ugly process. It's not just one event on one day. It involves a school year's worth of harassment by administrators. And many times it is unjustified and the result of a dislike of the teacher rather than his incompetence.
I am in NO WAY justifying shooting a principal and a vice principal. But I certainly understand the stress this teacher may have been under if he has already been told he is not being renewed.

So it's really hard to fire a teacher. If one actually gets fired, it can't possibly be after a pattern of bad behavior that deserves firing, it must be after "harassment" by administrators. Even when the teacher proves that he really needed to be fired by SHOOTING THE PRINCIPALS.
Amazing logic.
-
Yeah, cuz we all know it couldn't possibly be the teacher's performance, being the sacred cow of America they are. It has to be the administration...

Where did they get that the guys contract wasn't renewed? It wasn't in the article, maybe it's what they would do if their contract wasn't renewed. The DUmmie teachers will always stand up for other teachers, even pedophile ones.

Wow, I'm relieved. When I first heard this, I was afraid it would be that ignorant jerk of a principal at Jardine Magnet Middle School for Teachers With Special Needs, out there in Wichita, Kansas. From what we hear at the DUmp, he's been asking for it.

At least this idiot was as incompetent at firing a gun as he was at teaching.

The union obviously doesn't offer firearms training.

So nice to see what's happening here in my real world making the DUmp.... ::)
There were actually 2 kids left in the school waiting for a parent's friend to come get them. Two school secretaries hid these children under their desks and got in front of the children to protect them.
The shooter is a 4th grade teacher who has only been teaching the last couple of years. Though he is 48, he has only been certified to teach for 3-4 years.
His own brother has a recentlty obtained a restraining order out against him to keep the shooter away from his brother and his brother's family out of fear for their safety.....as the shooter has a history of mental illness.
The school system decided to not renew the shooter's contract. At this point, the school system is not releasing the reasons.
Could it be possible that the school system found out about the restraining order?
The principal and assistant principal are very highly regarded and the principal was principal of the year for ETn in 2008.
The principal is in critical condition and the assistant principal is in stable.
Both are expected to recover.

That is horrible debk. I hope they both have a speedy recovery.

Yeah. It is.
It's a fairly small elementary school. I haven't seen anything about how other teachers felt about the shooter, but one of the school kids was interviewed on tv and the little kid said that Mr Foster was a nice teacher.
The school is closed until next Tuesday.
There is to be mandatory counselling for the teachers tomorrow for most of the day. At a nearby church, there will be counselors available for the students and parents for the next two days.
Thank God that both women will survive.....

How the hell does a man with a "history" of mental illness become a teacher of grade school children? "History" being the operative word here. Thank the stinkin' unions who likely have such things kept secret!
All I can say is "this is just ****in' unbelievable"!

Don't know yet. Not a lot of info is being released about him so far.
It was in the brother's restraining order that the brother stated the shooter had a "history of mental illness'....the brother's wife (I think that's who she was) was doing a lot of talking on one of the newscasts that I saw.
He apparently was recently told that his contract was not being renewed...and some speculation that the school system found out about his "issues". There are comments on the same news site below, that indicate the school system can only find out so much in a background check.
This was on one of the local news web sites. Terry is a good personal friend of ours and is very conservative!

Well, sometimes teachers are persecuted and fired for the least little thing. Some are even counselors who get fired for dismissing a student's claims of rape by another student, which leads to the student having it happen again. Can you believe that they would fire a counselor for that type of allegation? Tonysam can't believe it either. :uhsure:

Makes sense. Union contracts limit background searches to just convictions I believe. In other words, if ya ain't been caught, you're A Okay!

And there you have it. Liberals once again putting good people at risk in the name of right to privacy, and the lives they endanger are merely collateral damage.
On another note, when will they protest that the counselors are being set up in....shudder...a Church!? All those poor, defenseless children being exposed to all those creepy crosses and other stuff.

However, not all teachers are in a union.
Based on my experience, the background checks that are conducted are often quite thorough. The former Mrs. Wiggum is a non-union elementary school teacher, and she has moved with her new husband twice in the past few years. Although I'm sure she didn't use me as a reference, I got random phone calls inquiring about her from prospective employers. Her former school in Chicago did very detailed background searches, and they had to turn away a number of otherwise qualified candidates for various "shenanigans" in their past.
Just sayin'.

There will be few people here protesting that the counselors are being set up in a Baptist Church. There was also a prayer vigil for the teachers, held at the same church last night.
For many of the schools here, the "escape" place for children to congregate, to be picked up by parents, are churches. We had a high school shooting a year or so ago, where one student shot another, and all the kids went to a church then too.
We have some extremely large churches here....

New York Teacher Still on Payroll Seven Years After Being Banned From Classroom
Three strikes and he wasn't out.
At the beginning of his 32-year career as a math teacher in Queens, Francisco Olivares allegedly impregnated and married a 16-year-old girl he had met when she was a 13-year-old student at his Corona junior high, IS 61, The Post learned.
He sexually molested two 12-year-old pupils a decade later and another student four years after that, the city Department of Education charged.
But none of it kept Olivares, 60, from collecting his $94,154 salary.
He hasn't set foot in a classroom in seven years since beating criminal and disciplinary charges. Chancellor Joel Klein keeps Olivares in a "rubber room," a district office where teachers accused of misconduct sit all day with nothing to do.
The DOE insists it can't get rid of him. "The department's hands are tied by state law and union rules," said spokeswoman Ann Forte.
She said tenured teachers can be fired only if an arbitrator approves.
"The department twice tried to terminate this teacher, and both times, an arbitrator decided to keep him on the payroll," she said.

Picked up on that, huh?
I lurked over there a bit last night to see the other comments. My time there was very short....it seemed everyone was on the side of the teacher and my blood pressure was rising....so it was best to leave. :censored:
It isn't good for my mental health to visit over there.....
Those people are always bitching about people and guns....unless the shooter is union, lost their job, or a liberal.

debk, I have a sister in Knoxville, and she's a teacher as well (subbing for the moment.) I wouldn't be able to take those comments over at the DUmp either, if this was my backyard. I can't stand that Libkansan creep. I would pull my kids out of her class so fast....

Remember, the tonysam primitive's the guidance counselor in Nevada who lost her job because she ignored the repeated rapes of an austistic student by other students.

That caused a minor dust up on the island a couple of weeks ago. Someone kept posting news stories related to the case. Many of the "educators" over there came out in defense of tonysam, and some wanted the poster of the stories to be banned.

One of the teachers that's defending the shooter is none other than:

It was interesting, one of the online news articles about the case had comments by tonysam defending the counselor. Even more interesting was that she pretended to be merely an outside person only interested in the news.

And in this case, a trifecta. Well put, debk.
