For me it is either Medina or Hutchison. I'm leaning Medina but I don't like the tax she would like to put on the sale of homes. AT ALL. It could move me to Hutchison.

Gaw. I really don't like Hutchison. I am done with Perry. I just don't know. I am leaning Medina, but depending on what I hear, I may go for one of the other two. I feel pretty confident we will get another republican in though.
-
Got my card in the mail today as well.
Hutchison is number one, but I can pull the lever for Medina as well. There is no way in hell I would ever vote for Perry.
-
I wouldn't vote for Perry or the Hutchflipper.
And I hope Bailout Kay comes in 3rd
-
Maybe we all throw our hats into the ring for Farouk Shami ..... let the repubs pick one of the 3 .....no way in HELL we could lose to that freak no matter who is the republican candidate.

Ya know, there is some thought to that! Local DJ's up here say if Shami wins, the headline will say Shami-wow!
I don't like that KBH voted for that DC gun law. I have many more reasons why I don't like her, including she is a lying sack of poo, and I don't know if I can endure another term of Perry's.
Just damn.

If I had to be realistic (which sucks), I'd bet it'll be a Perry/White contest come November.

I called that amongst my friends a month ago. Realistically, that is what is going to happen. I would bet $$ on it. But, I think regardless of who the republican running is, they will win against White.

Kind of funny how that happens.

I'm liking KBH over Governor Good Hair.

Candidate Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck Radio Show said she does not dismiss the idea that the government was behind 9-11.
Her campaign is over. She was rising into 2nd place in some polls before that.

Ouch. That's a NO vote from me. I was kinda liking her too.

She certainly changed her tune after the show.
read this:
http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/02/texas-gubernatorial-tea-party-candidate-implodes-on-glenn-beck-show/
and then this:
I was asked a question on the Glenn Beck show today regarding my thoughts on the so-called 9/11 truth movement. I have never been involved with the 9/11 truth movement, and there is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11. I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way. No one can deny that the events on 9/11 were a tragedy for all Americans and especially those families who lost loved ones.
The question surprised me because it's not relevant to this race or the issues facing Texans. This campaign has always been about private property rights and state sovereignty. It is focused on the issues facing Texans. It is not a vehicle for the 9-11 truth movement or any other group.
The real underlying question here, though, is whether or not people have the right to question our government. I think the fact that people are even asking questions on this level gets to the incredible distrust career politicians have fostered by so clearly taking their direction from special interests instead of the people, whether it's Rick Perry and his HPV mandate or Kay Hutchison and voting for the bank bailout. It is absolutely the right and duty of a free people to question their government. Texas does not need another politician who tells you what you want to hear, then violates your liberties and steals your property anyway. I fully expect to be questioned and to be held accountable as Governor, and that's the underlying issue here: should people be questioning their government. And the answer is yes, they should be.
-
Medina's a die-hard Ronbot. She says what people want to hear, but her plans aren't feasible. She won't be able to stand up to Washington.
Kay won't even try. She's too busy accusing Perry of kickbacks, while filling her hubby's pockets. She'll hand Texas over to the WH.
Perry's done good and bad. He has learned to listen to his voters. I'm not crazy about him, either, tho.
-

And that is my biggest beef with her. It is a shame about Medina. It will be Perry for me I guess. But by default only....

Maybe Sarah did some research before backing Perry?
Or she got lucky and picked the best default candidate.

Dunno. Maybe it is an alliance to Republican Governors in general? She would have lost a significant amount of credibility going with KBH.

I'd be more apt to go with #2.
Gov. Good Hair has never been what I'd call a Reagan Republican. But I think he's smart enough to see the writing on the wall and realizes he needs to become just that to not only better serve the people of his state...but to continue holding the title of Governor as well.

GLENN: I have when I said that I was going to have you on, you can't imagine the mail pro and con that I received. There was a theme that ran against you and that is you are a 9/11 Truther.
MEDINA: Well, there's lots of mud that people would like to throw at Debra Medina and make stick. The truth is I'm an everyday ordinary person. I am fighting for the things that our founders fought for, those very basic principles of a constitutional republic, and I'm going to champion people that hold their government accountable, hold me accountable but that's the first time I've heard that accusation. So that's an interesting one.
GLENN: Right. Here's then let me be more frank and ask you the question: Do you believe the government was any way involved with the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?
MEDINA: I don't, I don't have all of the evidence there, Glenn. So I don't I'm not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there. So I've not taken a position on that.
GLENN: I think the people of America might think that might be a yes.

A Texas state senator, Dan Patrick, tweets:
Medina digs hole deeper-says today she has questions how policemen got out and not the fireman on 9/11 She just can't let this go

and apparently she has said similar thing on the Alex Jones radio show.

Must have been a suggestion of another Alex Jones regular...Dr. Nutz to have her on the show.

You Texans gonna vote in a Truther?
Wow... I hope not. But from what I gather, Perry isn't exactly a prize.

Perry nor KBH should win, but Medina blew out her own tires.

Neither KBH or Gov. Good Hair are perfect...gonna have to figure out which is the lesser of two evils.

I am going with Perry. I don't like KBH's DC history
-
I'm voting for Perry.
Here's what I base my decision on. I've been pretty active in Texas Republican Party politics for many years, so I've had the opportunity to be in the same room with both Perry and KBH in smaller group meetings (not implying that I know either personally other than handshaking). Both have attended Republican Women club meetings I've been at on many occasions over the years.
My opinion of watching them mingle in this type of small crowd setting is that Perry is still a very genuine down to earth type that you could walk up to on the street and he'd give you a big smile and stop and say hello. KBH on the other hand, wouldn't have much time for you unless you are in a position where she could use you. Perry is the type that will stop and have his picture made with anyone that asks even in non-election years, whereas KBH can't be bothered unless she knows you hold a title and the picture might get into print for her benefit. KBH doesn't usually mingle in with the common folk peons, she stays to the back, then usually leaves the room immediately after her speech - whereas Perry usually would speak then sit and stay for the rest of the meeting, willing to mingle awhile and answer a few questions and shake hands. That is just my own personal observations I've seen of them both.
Putting personality aside, and looking just at policies and who would be best for the State, honestly I can't make much of a case for one over the other. Both of them have made decisions that I didn't agree with, and both of them have had their good points. I'd be ok with either of them, but think I'll vote for Gov. Good Hair again. I think he's closer to the people of Texas than KBH.
I also think KBH is making a mistake in the way she's running her campaign ads. She is getting pretty ruthless in attacking Perry. I've been getting some pretty nasty mailings. While she was in DC she never had anything bad to say about the way Perry was governing. Now all of a sudden her fangs are out and she's decided out of the blue to tell us how he's run Texas into the ground? Why wasn't she pointing all this out to us before. Because she was too busy working for us in D.C.? He was here working on Texas issues, she was there working on national issues not paying attention to the state level apparently. Now all of a sudden she's telling us what all he's been doing wrong?
I know she did a lot of good for Texas, and we were lucky to have such a strong force representing us in DC. But I can't help but have this feeling like she's an outsider swooping in now to tell us all how we need to be doing things. It's like when your kid goes off to college and then comes home 4 years later and wants to tell you how ignorant you are now that they are so worldly. Yes, I'm thinking with emotion and not logic here, but that's just the feeling I get. I just resent the way she wants to come back and tell us what all is wrong in Austin when she wasn't even there for the past 17 years.
I'd have been more inclined to vote for her if she had just said I'm ready to get back to my Texas roots and come home, and while Perry's served Texas well, I think it's time for a change. That message would have made me look at her more kindly and I may have thought, yeah a change might be good. But I resent the way she's attacking him only now that it's election time, when she didn't seem to have a problem with him before.
I guess bottom line of what all that above translates into, is that to me she is more of a "ruthless politician" in it for herself first and Texas second, whereas Perry is just an old Aggie enjoying the title. So I'll admit I'm voting on emotional appeal rather than issues in this race, since issues are about equal to me for the two.
Medina's a non-issue after that truther crap.

Here's something interesting to look at too.
The list of endorsements from each website:
http://texans.forkay.com/pages/endorsements
http://rickperry.org/endorsements
Looks like the Bush family is backing KBH.
Early voting starts this Tuesday.
-
Kay, thanks for your input. That pretty much summed up my reasoning for voting for Perry. I just don't trust KBH to do the right thing for Texas.
-
Oh I guess I should clarify that it is Daddy & Barbara Bush that have endorsed KBH. I guess W & Laura are staying publicly neutral. I've not see anywhere where they have supported one over the other.
IassaFTots, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say I don't trust KBH. I'll be ok with her if she wins. She's not totally horrid, I just like Perry's style a lot better. I would have been most glad if she would just keep her job and keep on being our Senator in DC. Other than voting for the first bail-out, she did a pretty good job for us up there. I'd vote to re-elect her to the Senate.
At her age, and after her long service to the State, she could come back here to semi-retire and do a lot of good in other roles behind the scenes. Rather than come home a heroine and do all she could to unite and strengthen the Tx GOP, she chose to ride in this way and split everyone by trying to grab the seat out from under a fairly well liked sitting Governor. That was bad form on her part.
At least we are very fortunate that we have two fairly decent people to chose from and neither one will make us any worse off than we already are, IMHO. But I'm sticking with Perry.
-

Even that would give the Dim candidate a way to tie KBH to the BFEE.

3. It's not personal, it's business.
Perhaps this is all mercenary. Many of the political practitioners who went to Washington with Bush 43 have returned to Texas, and millions of dollars in lobbying, consulting and other lucrative employment in the political game are on the line if the governorship changes hands. The big dogs are back, but to regain power means ousting the current team that rules the town.
http://blogs.chron.com/txpotomac/2010/01/the_bushes_vs_perry_no_love_lo.html
This makes more sense to me than the 'personal' angle.
-
I'm voting for Perry.
-
After returning to this state that I once loved and respected, I'm pretty disillusioned. I kind of like Medina, and the other two just make me ill. All of the hidden regulations and hidden taxes on the business sector and non-profit organizations are frightening, to say the least.
-
This probably should be a new topic of its own, if mods think so please split this off. But since it pertains only to the Texas primary elections, I thought I'd keep here in this discussion.
Below are the propositions the SREC has put on the primary ballot in case you've not seen them:
________________________________________________________
The State Republican Executive Committee has placed five propositions on the GOP primary ballot. These non-binding questions gauge grassroots support on the issues, and will inform our elected officials where the party's most active voters stand on the issues. Early voting begins Tuesday, February 16, and primary day itself is March 2. The propositions are below. Get informed, and get ready to vote!
Ballot Proposition #1: Photo ID
The Texas legislature should make it a priority to protect the integrity of our election process by enacting legislation that requires voters to provide valid photo identification in order to cast a ballot in any and all elections conducted in the State of Texas.
YES or NO
Ballot Proposition #2: Controlling Government Growth
Every government body in Texas should be required to limit any annual increase in its budget and spending to the combined increase of population and inflation unless it first gets voter approval to exceed the allowed annual growth or in the case of an official emergency.
YES or NO
Ballot Proposition #3: Cutting Federal Income Taxes
In addition to aggressively eliminating irresponsible federal spending, Congress should empower American citizens to stimulate the economy by Congress cutting federal income taxes for all federal taxpayers, rather than spending hundreds of billions of dollars on so-called “federal economic stimulusâ€.
YES or NO
Ballot Proposition #4: Public Acknowledgement of God
The use of the word “Godâ€, prayers, and the Ten Commandments should be allowed at public gatherings and public educational institutions, as well as be permitted on government buildings and property.
YES or NO
Ballot Proposition #5: Sonograms
The Texas Legislature should enact legislation requiring a sonogram to be performed and shown to each mother about to undergo a medically unnecessary, elective abortion.
YES or NO
The primary vote is March 2, 2010.
-
I read those propositions, and the article also mentioned that the Texas DimRats didn't put any on the ballot.
-
If the Bush family is backing KBH, then I'm for anyone running against her.
three words
Ramos and Campeon
Bush let that farce of a trial go on.....it never should have gone to trial
I'm voting for the Aggie in order to keep Texas out of the Big Ten :-)
-
Early voting started today here in Houston. I showed up at voting location around 11am and the parking lot was full of dem supporters. I got some funny looks when I told them I was voting Republican.
Anyone who lives in my district there is another Sarah running for State Rep District 134.
http://www.sarahdavis134.com/
She got my vote today.

Getting ready to go vote early today. Was looking for the polling locations on the county website and ran across something interesting. Apparently the state requires each county to post a cumulative roster of who votes in what primary. Turns out there are 3 Rs and 0 Ds in my precinct at the moment. I guess I'll be number 4.
Total in Denton County, there've been 947 Rs and 100 Ds.

In a runoff, if there are any, only those who voted in the first primary can vote. Supposedly.

Just got home from voting. Not many people there at the time. From listening to the ladies working there, it's been slow and steady so far. There were only two people out front (one for the incumbent DA, who I voted against and one for a candidate for County Court at Law, who I voted for.)
-
I looked at the polling places yesterday, and the ones on my way to or from work aren't open. So, I will have to go in on Saturday to get my vote in.
-
Apparently the state requires each county to post a cumulative roster of who votes in what primary.
I was a precinct chairman and election judge for many years. Yes each precinct is required to post a count every so many hours. This will be posted at the polling place if you look for it. I usually posted it on the back of the door so it couldn't be missed when people left the building. It just gives the count of how many ballets have been voted up to that point. This is done in all elections, not just primaries and has to be posted in every poll place where it is visible to the public.
I believe if there is a run off race, you can still vote in it if you did not vote in the original primary election, but you can not cross over to the other party's run off IF you voted in the opposite party's original primary. So for instance if I didn't vote, and then both the dem and rep had run-offs, I could go vote in the one of my choosing. But if I vote in the rep primary, and then both have a run off, I can only vote in the rep run off. The clerks will have books that show which party primary you voted in to verify if you are eligible.
I cast my vote today for Perry.
-
Figured there had to be a reason. Denton county posts theirs online. Just kind of caught me by surprise. This was the first primary I've voted in.
