Rep. Murtha Dead at 77
Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. John Murtha, the first veteran of the Vietnam war and one of the most powerful lawmakers in Congress, died Wednesday morning at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA, after complications from gallbladder surgery. Murtha was 77.

How sad for those who considered him a loved one. Our government's gain is indeed his family's loss.
May he RIP.
-
Condolences to his family. Once many years ago a patriot, now a dead traitor.
-
Bury him in Haditha.
-
Fare well, corpseman.
-
Condolences to his family. Once many years ago a patriot, now a dead traitor.
+1. My sympathies to his family in their loss, but I am not unhappy that the bastard is rotting in hell beside Dead Ted.
-
Thoughts are with his family :(

+1. Ditto.
-
My condolences to his family.

You're supposed to say something nice about the dead...ummm...ummm...the swimmer was worse.
-
This may be somewhat callous, but does anybody know Pennsylvania's procedures for replacing congressmen?
-
Corrupt, Hateful, Evil Little Worm!!
Slanderer of Marines.
Pork Overdose maybe.

This may be somewhat callous, but does anybody know Pennsylvania's procedures for replacing congressmen?
I looked but couldn't find anything. I sure would like to know.
These things come in three's... Robert Byrd better watch out.

I think a special election has to be called. Appointments are for Senators.
-

I don't think anyone will be claiming it's Murtha's seat since that did not work out too well the last time.
May God have mercy on his worthless soul.
-
Condolences to his family.
-
A sad day for the diminishing few who loved him.
A joyous day for the Republic.
-
RIP and bon voyage. I'm not an 'Every man's death diminishes me' kind of guy, and won't put on an act in that regard now, but I hope his passing was painless and that his family finds comfort in him having lived a long and full life.
-
Condolences to any family remaining and while unfortunate and ugly that he put politics ahead of country and truth it is Gods hands now to deal with that.
-
This may be somewhat callous, but does anybody know Pennsylvania's procedures for replacing congressmen?
Considering how gerrymandered his district is, don't expect change on the level of Dead Ted's seat.

Condolences to his family....

heh.

Condolences to his family.

Prayers for those that love him...and this man's soul.

^I second that.

I'm not going to kid anyone. Thank God for small favors!

Condolences to his family....

What does it gain a man to acquire the whole world and lose his own soul?
-
He accused our Marines of serious war crimes so the only thing I'll say is Good Riddens.
-
Yeah that's a shame. How did the Superbowl turn out?
-
Saints WON! :-)

I was always told, if you can't say something nice about a person, say nothing at all....So, I will say nothing.....
-
Sorry for his loved ones. On other news....

Breaking. Ted Kennedy still dead.

Breaking. Ted Kennedy still dead.
And don't look for that to change. Just like with Michael Jackson's death, it's not a career move.

Just ask General Francisco Franco. Or Chevy Chase.

Dang skippy they did! :cheersmate:

I'm just going to say it... finally.
I'm going to lift a drink to the honor of the Haditha Marines and celebrate.
Am I callous? Yup.

Geez.....I hope they don't decide to bury him at Arlington.....TRG will go into low earth orbit again.......

Hi,
Finally something I can tip my hat to.
When I heard on the radio he had died I wondered what I would post. This was a man who turned on his fello Marines, damn near collaborated with the enemy, put our soldiers in harm's way unnecessarily and I should call him a hero. There was a day he would have been drummed out of the corps and congress.
I wish there was a soft side of me that could forgive and show some compassion, but in his case there is not. May Jane Fonda soon be buried next to him. If it is made public I promise you there will be no grass growing on their graves.....

I'd suggest they bury him with full honors on the main runway at his airport, but it will probably be Arlington.

Get set for it. He's a leftist Congress-shit with prior military service, which makes it a pretty damned certain bet with this administration.
-
Unfortunately, I think his being buried at Arlington is a given. He lived his life on the taxpayer's dime, what's a little more?
-
Pity for his family and friends and also for the Marines that are going to have to participate in his funeral after what he did to them. :(
-
I feel for his grandchildren who don't know any better, and for his children who have lost their father.
That's the nicest thing I can say.
-

If it's at Arlington, he should at least be buried face down.

Hi,
I have an idea. Bury him face down with his butt above the ground so folks will have a place to park their bikes.
You know I understand that he has a family and one would expect them to grieve. At the same time, there was a day in my life when I knew children of a semi-famous man. The kids knew what their dad was and behind his back called it the way it was. He was an embarrasment to them and to keep any freinds they had to be up front about it instead of hide it.
I felt sorry for Chelsea Clinton in college, the stuff her dad did was indefensible and she had to know that. That is unless you feel that having sex with a subordinate, lying about it, wasting over $40 million of the taxpayers money to get to the truth they alread knew is OK behavior. Of course any military officer who did what Clinton did would have been discharged immediately.
Let's not jump to conclusions, Murtha's kids may well know what an idiot, and how morally and mentally corrupt he really was.

I have nothing at all nice to say about this traitor to Corps and country, so guess that does it for me as far as eulegy goes.
I would like to have been a fly on the wall though when he looked upon Heaven's scenes, and realized the streets really are guarded by United States Marines. I'm quite sure they had lots to discuss while awaiting his final judgement and subsequent flight south.
-
Its up to the family where he gets buried and with the small amount of room that there is in Arlington National Cemetery they may opt to have him buried at home. To me that would be a plus since he discraced his uniform and service by lying about his fellow Marines and then refused to apologize for slandering them.

Cheers. I just can't think nice things about him, and after a couple of drinks, the truth comes out. I can't wait a few days before posting my thoughts on Jihad Johnny.
I'm waiting for Sheets Byrd to kick the bucket. Hanoi Jane would be a bonus. And I wasn't even alive for her treason during Vietnam.

Hi,
How about an inscription on his tombstone, "Semper Fi, my ass!"
He was know as the king of pork, maybe they can bury him at that airport that no one goes to or something.
However he is buried my guess is that there will be more taxpayer dollars wasted.

Please excuse my ignorance.
Is the Arlington Honor Guard from the same branch of service as the deceased?
I guess my question is whether the Marines whom he falsely accused are going to be ordered to stand at attention during his burial.
My uncle was interred there last year. His honor guard was all Army--he was an Army WWII vet.

Hi,
i just saw a blurb on Fox that he died from an infection that basically was a mistake after the surgery. Why do I hope he was taking advantage of government medical so they have no recourse to sue for damages...
It finally dawned on me by the way. I was feeling guilty about speaking so badly about a guy who was a marine and a congressman who had died. Then it hit me. One of the first things I learned in the marine corps was that you were responsible for your own behavior.....and the consequences of that behavior. Well the former marine is doing just that, suffering the consequences of his behavior. I guess there is no law that says you should feel bad when a person dies, particularly when they were responsible both directly and indirectly for a lot of deaths themselves.

PS: If some doctor gets sued, I wonder how many millions could be raised for the doctors legal defense fund.

The Honor Guard at Arlington is the Army's "Old Guard" Regiment (Third United States Infantry)........they serve permanently at that location, for duty at the the cemetery.......our own TRG can give you details, as he served with them there for a while, as I understand it.

It was government healthcare, government doctors at the Bethseda Naval Hospital that performed the surgery..

Yes TxRadio just left The Old Guard about 2 days ago. I saw where posted on Face Book that they arrived yesterday in Germany - the family got there safe at his new duty station.
I know the Army's Old Guard conducts the services at Arlington, but that's something I'm curious about too on the different service branches. I would think that Marines are carried by Marines, Navy by Navy, etc, but maybe not?

I heard/read somewhere yesterday that if we had good health care in this country. Murtha would still be alive.
Hmmmm....his surgeon is a Navy officer.
Marines and Navy. Navy and Marines.
Murtha hurts the Marines.

I think it would be great if the Marines refused to do him honor at Arlington. However, Marines have more class and dignity than to ignore their duty. They will give this POS his Honor Guard, even if he doesn't deserve it.

By virtue of his service in uniform and as a congresscritter, he deserves the honor guard, as much as it pains me to say that.
But I'm wondering how many birds will shit all over his headstone....

I know this post is late and the topic has been beat to hell however - GOOD!
Too bad the cocksucker did not die while rotting in prison.
It is not just the exorbitant pork he needlessly EXTORTED form the taxpayer to buy votes with, the prick committed TREASON against Marines and this nation with HIS Haditha lies.
When the truth about Haditha came out, the cocksucking low-life prick did not have the raisinette sized balls to admit his errors LIES. He never apologized to any of the accused Marines nor their families.
The prick ALLOWED his self to be a pawn of the left against President Bush - The left's methods of putting him out front and saying "hey, he IS a Marine Vietnam veteran and he HATES and disagrees with President Bush's War on Terror methodologies therefore, the liberal democrat fags in Congress GAVE THEMSELVES AND THE NEWS MEDIA more proof that Bush was wrong in his motives and the Republican party was wrong for the nation.
All the while his actions endangered U.S. Military personnel in theater which resulted in injury and deaths of our soldiers.
**** THAT BASTARD!
In the good old days, the cocksucker would have DIED while rotting in prison and his family would have been disavowed U.S. citizenship for three generations.
**** that bastard!
May he and Ted "the drunk fat bastard" be sand-dry butt****ing each other in hell for eternity.
THE MOTHER****ER WAS A TRAITOR AND WE ALL KNOW IT.
WE DO _NOT_ GIVE MILITARY HONORS TO TRAITORS TO THIS NATION AND THE LIVES OF ITS SOLDIERS AND CITIZENS!

Speaking from the vantage point of somebody who doesn't frequent the DU Dumpster, and only the DU thing itself when I've got an insatiable urge to look at something really, really stupid, I can imagine that there are some crass things said in that place.
I think what's being said here shouldn't be taken as gospel by anybody. If somebody is venting because the behavior of this assclown was truly despicable (as it surely was, on many fronts and many venues), that's what it is -- venting.
I realize that this forum does not want to stoop to DU level - whatever that is - but in the interest of free speech, is it really reflective of this forum when somebody vents about people like Murtha?
Or is it merely reflective of the passion that that person holds toward a man who went over to the Dark Side, never to return?
Of course, you da Hammah man. If you say pipe down, I guess all of us need to ask if it's briar, meerschaum, or corncob.

I have my own opinions of Murtha and they parallel what Patriot Game said. However, for the sake of propriety, I have kept them to myself.
Besides that, if asked y'all to "pipe down", it would be a Bosun's Pipe..... ;)

You are correct in part but we do NOT coddle Satan and his tools. There is a BIG difference between what we do here and what the DUmmies at the DUmp DU (do):
We are honest, patriotic, NEVER lie, S-U-P-P-O-R-T our troops and our nation, and do NOT leech off of the taxpayer nor idolize Marxism.
We are righteous, Dummies are Satan's tools.
I have ZERO apprehensions over urinating on Murtha's "legacy" and if given the chance, I would squat and crap on his tombstone.

Murtha better pray God isn't a Marine.
Forgive me other service members,
but I feel compelled to answer this with the following:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. In the Beginning was God - and all else was darkness, and void, and without form. So God created the heavens and the earth. He created the sun, and the moon, and the stars, so that light might pierce the darkness. And the earth God divided between the land and the sea, and these He filled with many assorted creatures. And the dark, salty, slimy creatures that inhabited the murky depths of the oceans, God called sailors, and He dressed them accordingly.
And the flighty creatures of the air He called airmen. And these He clothed in uniforms which were ruffled and fowl.
And the lower creatures of the land, God called soldiers. And with a twinkle in His eye, and a sense of humor that only He could have, God gave them trousers too short, and covers too large, and pockets to warm their hands. And to adorn their uniforms, God gave them badges. And He gave them cords. And He gave them ribbons... and patches... and stars... and bells. He gave them emblems... and crests... and all sorts of shiny things that glittered... and devices that dangled. When you're God, you tend to get carried away in a big way.
And on the 7th day, as you know, God rested. And on the 8th day at 0730, God looked down upon the earth and was not happy.
GOD WAS NOT HAPPY!
So He thought about His labors, and in His infinite wisdom, God created a divine creature and this He called a Marine. And these Marines whom God created in His own image, were to be of the air, the land, and the sea. And these He gave many wonderful uniforms.
He gave them practical, fighting uniforms, so that they could wage war against the forces of Satan and evil.
He gave them service uniforms for their daily work and training, that they might be sharp and ready.
And He gave them evening and dress uniforms. Sharp, stylish, handsome things, so they might score with the ladies on Saturday night, and impress the hell outta everybody!
And at the end of the 8th day, God looked down upon the earth, and saw that it was good. But was God happy? No!
GOD WAS STILL NOT HAPPY!
Because in the course of His labors, He had forgotten one thing... He did not have a Marine uniform! But He thought about it, and thought about it, and finally satisfied Himself in knowing that, well, not everybody can be a Marine...

Woohoo! Looks like Jihad Johnny won't be planted at Arlington among the honorable. Instead, he'll end up being buried in Johnstown, PA.
WJACTV (http://www.wjactv.com/news/22510704/detail.html)
Funeral services for the late Rep. John Murtha have now been finalized for next week in the district he represented for 3 1/2 decades.
Murtha's family said a public viewing will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at Duca's Funeral Home in Johnstown.
A private funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Westmont Presbyterian Church, and a private burial service will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

I just figured with his ego, he would want to be at Arlington.
HIS ego yes, but perhaps his family was privately embarrased by his actions and knew in their hearts that it would be blasphamy to put him at Arlington. They probably knew it would cause an uproar with the Veteran and miliary familes and didn't want to deal with the backlash.
-
The should just bury him in the garbage dump where he belongs. After all, he made himself no better than the trash.

I realize we're just speculating here, but I find it extremely unlikely that Murtha's family was in any way embarrassed by his actions. Let's keep in mind that Murtha had a long career in bringing the pork home and he was very, very popular at home as a result. He managed to fend off every challenger for his seat (despite my own personal support of Lieutenant Colonel William Russell in the 2008 election); this despite his calling his own constituents rednecks and racists.
And because of that, I find it unlikely that Murtha himself wanted to be buried anyplace other than where he's winding up. For whatever reason, he chose not to be buried in Arlington and while that's perfectly fine by me (Arlington is hallowed ground, fitting only for those who have served honorably and faithfully), apparently he had other plans.
No, sorry, I just don't see Murtha's family doing much more than finalizing the funeral arrangements, collecting the life insurance settlement/proceeds, and investigating closely to see what their options would be in prosecuting the surgeon that allegedly screwed up Murtha's large bowel and caused the infection that killed him.
I can definitely see Murtha's family trying to cash in on everything possible.
Go ahead - call me a cynic. :evillaugh:
-
Cynic!
Maybe so, your probably right.
Whatever the reason, just glad he's not going to Arlington.

:evillaugh:
My bet is his ego was so great, he wanted to be close by so he could be adored even after death. He needed to be close, otherwise they would have to travel.

Hanoi Jane might oughta just be creamated.
No cemetery wants that kind of soil contamination issue.
From the rotting red corps is what I'm talking about.
Hi,
I posted the following in the Comedy thread, maybe should have added it here.

Dear Mr. President,
You have asked for suggestions on helping the environment. I have an idea that could save thousands, if not millions of gallons of fuel.
Please issue a presidential order that John Murtha and Jane Fonda be buried in adjoining graves sites. I know thousands of former Vietnam military personnel who have expressed a desire to pay their respects when they pass on. If they are buried next to each other they could visit both graves on one trip.
Once we get to the cemetery I know they will be easy to spot because there will be no grass growing on either of them.
Thank you sir,
A Humble Peasant

I'm going to have to give my "+1" to those who are simply offering condolences to his family. It is hard for me to hate a dead person, especially for (harshly) saying things that were (horribly) misguided. He has now suffered the loss of his life, and he cannot do any more harm. I would have been satisfied if he had just apologized and stopped talking.

Fortunately or unfortunately, most of us here are patriots and refuse to stand by while a complete asshole disparages our troops.

Hi,
All of us in life are responsible for our own behavior. All of us have the capacity to forgive. Unfortunately for John Murtha he crossed the line and committed some unforgivable acts in the minds of many of us; particularly Marines. Semper Fi means something to Marines, even to guys like me who went to boot camp over half century ago. He lied, turned on the Corps for political purposes, put soldiers in harm's way by inflaming the enemy and those are unforgivable.
An apology would have been nice; however the arrogant son-of-a-bitch did not think he did anything wrong even when the facts proved him wrong. I have a friend who is coming home on a four day leave tomorrow and then is heading to Afganistan. I have told him many times that he should not pay too much attention to the politicians, but rather it is the guys and gals standing next to him that he must rely on and have faith in. Mr. Murtha broke that faith. He put soldiers at risk for his personal political gain. That is a crime for which many offer no forgiveness, let the Lord handle that one.

Heck of a good post 5412. As deep as most of us all feel it,
I know that you Marines feel it that much deeper x 1000.
I will keep your friend heading to Afganistan in my prayers.

Yea, and so you said about Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao.
Ask me to elaborate as to why a steaming pile of horse shit carries more weight than your "opinion".
