My solution for the homeless & high housing costs Updated at 11:15 AM
Here is a way to provide cheap comfortable housing for the homeless, (or anyone that wants a cheap, small, safe dwelling) Modify those mobile mini metal storage pods so people can live in them. A simple parking space sized metal pod (15 feet X 8 feet X 8'6" high) can be converted into living shelter. All the essensials can easily fit inside (A bed, flat screen tv, small stove or hot plate, computer, LED lighting, small energy effieicient heater/AC.
Thousands of these living "pods" can be put into an energy efficient parking garage like structure, which can be built in a city near the public transportation hub and grocery stores. Many ammenaties can also be built to provide recreation.....A giant field for recreation with a walking track surrounding it, a swimming pool, gardens, internet cafes...etc....I believe these "pod garages" would work best in cities with warm weather, but they could also be modified for colder cities like New York, Chicago etc...
I believe this would be a good, cheap, efficient, comfortable way to house people who were previously homeless, on welfare, etc...Would also be good for people who can afford more expensive housing but just want to save $$ to spend on other things.
The only complications to this plan are...Security guards would need to be on duty 24/7, It might not be possible to put private bathhooms in individual living pods, andnot sure about how difficult it would be for something like this to comply with fire codes. But I think its a good idea and I would not hesitate to live in one of these pods..I think it would be cool!!!
We need more cheap, safe, efficient housing in every major city!!!!
I can not believe this DUmmy said flat screen tvs and computers are essentials.

3. Confiscate all the golf courses in the country & give the land to the homeless.
Problem solved.

I think we should try to kill two birds with one waste of tax money. The jug-eared muslim just got finished using our money to buy about a brazillion used cars, for whatever reason no one knows. Anyway, we bought a brazillion old cars. DUmmy bobbolink has built a very comfortable successful life living in an old Buick parked somewhere in Denver. Most of the old cars the muslim bought are probably newer and more comfortable than the one bobbo the hobo lives in, and certainly smell better.
So, park a few hundred thousand of these clunkers in the California desert around poor stupid Beth's little Airstream, and fill 'em up with West Coast bums. Let the muslim buy a few hundred acres of farmettes up in Wisconsin, park another swarm of clunkers, fill 'em up! Do the same thing somewhere in the empty wilds of New Hampshire, and fill 'em up!
I think it would work. The clunkers would serve some purpose other than just wasting tax money, countless winos would have shelter and be out of the sight of decent people, and well-paying jobs would be created for the guys who run the freight service delivering muscatel to these clunker colonies.
-
That sounds good. Then we could put them to work, building a 30' sheer wall around it, from the inside, with no gates. Then turn off their internet, cell, and landline access. Parachute in some seeds, rakes, shovels, and picks, and then come back in 25-30 years to check on them.

The problem is when the Bummer bought the old cars, he had them all disabled, PERMANENTLY! The only thing they're good for now is recycling.
Killing a clunker takes patience and intestinal fortitude. Five minutes ago, a hulking Infiniti Q45 at Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Germantown guzzled a lethal dose of sodium silicate -- liquid glass that hardens engine arteries.

I expect mosquito screens would be a lot more useful to them than flat screens, anyway.

If they really wanna build a stack-a-block-ghetto there's nothing more suitable than the standard , 20 foot ISO shipping container. 40 foot for the deluxe 5-star rooms.

I know, we can convert some warehouses into "capsule DUmmie hotels". We could save some serious tax dollars.

francolettieri has a wonderful idea...we get all the homeless and as mant DUmmies as possible to move into contains....then we load the containers onto container ships and ship them all to Cuba.
-
Why not just model the solution after the health care bill? Mandate everyone to buy a house. Problem solved. Can't afford one? Go to jail and pay a big fine, too.

58. "You've never been inside a prison cell, have you..."
Exactly.
I simply cannot believe the lack of human compassion so many people here show for those of us they consider as less than human, and just a "problem".
It makes me ill.
I would rather be dead, thankyouverymuch.

55. Thank you again.... those who haven't/won't walk in our shoes have no way
to empathize, and therefore no compassion/understanding. We are just pawns to move around.
However, I will correct you on one thing... PLEASE don't ask them to "volunteer to help"---these are the people who come in, looking down their nose at those they consider inferior and in need of their "steering", and denigrate.
THAT we don't need more of!
Yes, because we all KNOW how denigrating it can be to be asked to volunteer. :whatever:

54. Thank you. The ignorance and lack of respect never fails to amaze me.
Toilet, schoilet.
Goddammit.....
Oh what the hell... it's useless to try to make a dent in the density of these people.
But I thank you tremendously for trying!
from a homeless person who demands DIGNITY.
Yes, demanding dignity always gets results....
And that is it ... so far. I guess the library up there in Colorado on a Sunday night doesn't stay open as late as bobbo the hobo needs. She was too 'busy' to make it to the library at a decent time.
A little disappointing but at least she was able to make it to the party.

How do you demand dignity?
Dignity comes from within, respect is earned from others.
or
Dignity is earned from yourself, respect is earned from others.

I would LOVE to see them give the homeless a blank piece of land. Most of the homeless are homeless by choice. They don't WANT to conform to societies rules.
If you gave them a piece of land they would be PISSED OFF because you didn't improve it for them. They don't want to have to work to make it their own. As evidenced above you can't even ask them to volunteer for their own cause .... at least so says the self proclaimed voice of the homeless in this country.

57. Well, I DO have a "problem" with the size.
One room living for any length of time is NOT right, NOT healthy, and causes many problems.
Since it is not safe on DU to actually talk about personal issues, I won't go into details, but suffice it to say... IF PEOPLE OF THIS NATION WANTED TO HOUSE EVERYONE, IT WOULD BE DONE. ITS NOT ABOUT MONEY... ITS ABOUT THE DESIRE TO TAKE CARE OF CITIZENS, JUST LIKE HEALTH CARE.
Yes, I'm raising my voice. There is NO NEEd to cram people into unliveable spaces.
NONE at all.
The richest country in the world can house all of its citizens in a very healthy and pleasant way, IF IT MAKES UP ITS MIND TO DO SO!
As long as it isn't YOUR money .... right bobbo?
It is not my job or anyone elses to 'Take Care Of You'.

That may not be a bad idea for some people. But has to be mix of solutions to end homelessness. I, for one, would like to live in one. Especially in Japan, where the cost of living in some cities are sky high. The protagonist in the Chaos;Head anime actually lives in one and is quite confortable living, when you consider the space.
LOL. Bobbo should be happy with the offer of a shipping container for a home. Anime characters are perfectly comfortable in them. :evillaugh: :rotf: :rotf:

25. Kind of unfair...
I know this doesn't involve me, but I think that you're being unfair in accusing the other person of assuming to know what a whole group of people wants.
In saying:
"GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD, THE HOMELESS DON'T WANT TO BE WAREHOUSED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM."
You, yourself, are also presuming to speak for an entire group of people...."THE Homeless".
Maybe some of them would want to live in such a setting. Unless you've spoken to every single homeless person in the US, you have no way of knowing what "The Homeless" want or don't want.
I personally would take a survey before issuing such a blanket statement and being snotty to someone who only expressed an opinion and certainly wasn't being rude about it.

32. Oh, yeah, that's right, before we speak about any group of people we must get a broad conscensus
What sophistry is this? Do you demand the same of people who speak about conservatives, Democrats, the rich, the poor, Southerners, Northerners, etc. etc. Somehow I doubt it.
Let me ask you this, what experience do you have with the homeless? Or with being homeless? Do you have anything in your background that would give you such an insight? I do, thus I can speak with authority, an authority that the OP, and I suspect you as well, lack.

Bobbo butthead comes across as "holier than thou" on every single thread she has ever commented on. She wears being homeless like a badge of honor.
How 'bout this Butthead, I HAVE been homeless and a shipping container would have been a welcome shelter when the rain started and the temp was hovering around 40 degrees. You want us to put you up in the frikkin' Hilton, all expenses paid, like we frikkin' owe it to you and the other worthless dreggs of society. There are some who by no fault of their own, need a hand up. You, certainly are not one of them!
Anyone packing around the hatred for your fellow man like you do, doesn't warrant any sympathy whatsoever!
Edited for Spelling

Yeah, and she uses it ALL the time. Anyone dares to disagree with her, about anything, she drags out the homeless argument as a shield. If she's a mole, she's an awesome one. If not, I wouldn't offer her the trash can to pick through.

Well the dirty, smelly, wino DUmmy bobbolink is finally right about one thing. This is indeed the richest country in the world.
In order to be a homeless, penniless, smelly, dirty, homeless bum, living in an old Buick, you have to be a world-class loser.

Further to that - when you "give" housing and services to the homeless / poor they expect YOU to maintain it, keep it clean and fix it after they trash it. Take the public housing projects just about anywhere in the western world as examples.

Well, there appears to be only two options re: the bobbling primitive.
Either the bobbling primitive is a damned good mole, or the bobbling primitive has been lying these many past years, about being homeless.
It's one or the other. I don't see any other options.

That brings up a contradiction of sorts. DUmmies Lie, and they lie all the time, but if she's lying and she is a mole, then she might not be a DUmmie, and might not be lying.
My head is starting to hurt. I think I won't worry about bobbo and just continue to read it's rants for fun.
