Title: Saturday
Post by: thundley4 on February 06, 2010, 04:56:20 AM
Just a normal cold of 32 this morning, but the roads are covered with frozen slush. Still, we only had about 2 inches overnight, instead of the 4 or so predicted.

12 now, was down to 9.  As the Farmer's Almanac predicted, it has so far been a colder but drier than normal winter.  NO snow so far this month, and only one minor storm predicted for the next week.  I can actually see my yard in spots.  At least mud season this year won't be bad if this keeps up and I haven't had to clear the roof off either.  Unfortunately, I'm down to just over 1/4 tank of oil in less than six weeks.  I was hoping it would last until the end of this month.  Fat chance of that now.

On the countdown to Lost Wages.  I can check in for my flight anytime, and probably will later when I get all the laundry done and take the Wondermutt to the kennel.  No chance of upgrading, though--first class is full.

Snow snow snow and more snow.  Thing is, they don't know how to clear it around here, so it double sucks!

I'd say we have about 2 feet, with drifts higher than that.  My big dog even looked at my like I was nuts when I tried to ship her outside this mornning.  My little dog has avoided even going near the door.

We have some pictures, but Mr Flame is uploading them to the laptop so he can post them on his blog...eventually I'll get them to where I can post some.

I may go down to the VFW and help out for a bit or at least show up and pretend to want to help. Today appears to have some potential for some sunshine and moderate temps. (mid to upper 40s). I need to swap out some speakers in my truck. I actually slept a total of seven consecutive hours last night. I haven't done that in such a long time that I can't even remember.

Having people over Sunday for the game, so I need to straighten up the guest room, which means I have to pack up my Christmas ornaments.  There aren't many, if I got cracking it would take an hour or so, I am just procrastinating.

Dude.  That isn't good.  Is it an area outage, or just you?  I find the more people affected the quicker they work on the problem.

That's the way cable companies operate. Typically, when a node is out, it affects a LOT of subscribers and the companies get the line techs out on the problem. They always deal with the major outages first.

I don't know.  It was out yesterday afternoon and was still out this morning.  I checked my account online, and its still active.  Both my TV and my internet is out, but I didn't mess with it yesterday (too tired).  I'll check the cables this evening after work and if that doesn't work, I'll call them.

Electrical is the same way--get the bulk lines back on first, then work on the onesies and twosies last.  All utilities have CMI (Customer Minutes Interrupted) they have to stay under to stay off the PUC's shit-list and get bonuses.

Rain forecast again today.

I'm meeting a couple of women from church to discuss the church bookstore.  I'm in charge of the bookstore, and a woman who is an awesome cook has suggested having an order form that people could order specialty baked goods from. She is going to donate all of the proceeds to the church (which has suffered during the recession.  Tithing has been dramatically down for the past year.)

Gloomy here again today. Currently there is nothing falling from the sky....but rain, sleet, "drizzly slush" ( :huh?: ),
snow are all forecasted.

Need to go hunting and gathering for tomorrow's Super Bowl event. The usual crowd is coming, and all are bringing something (I want to watch the game).....so I'm only making baked ziti, brownies.....and cleaning.

I offered to sell my day off tomorrow to someone who wants to watch the game but I had no takers.  I may or may not watch the game, I don't really care.

It's been raining on-again, off-again here in Silicon Valley for several days. Not cold, no piles of snow, but I have a feeling there's been or will be some mud slides up in the Santa Cruz Mountains (which are between San Jose and Santa Cruz).

I looked for prior posts about this without finding any. Is anyone else weirded out by the Progressive Direct banner ads currently running on the forum? It pays the bills I assume and it doesn't really bother me, but the "Progressive" does refer, IIRC, in part at least to the owners' politics. If they want to help a conservative discussion forum pay its bills, I'm OK with that, :evillaugh: . The garishly made up, supposedly homely, chick is starting to grate on me, though.

My dad and I managed to plant some veggies in our garden between rain showers.  Now I have to convince somebody to drive me to get my eyebrows done  :naughty:

Not at all. I suspect she probably has to be made up that way to make her look homely. But just in marketing terms, PD has over-exposed her. By way of contrast, GEICO has several series of ads - the iconic talking gecko, the cave men and the money-stack-with eyes. They rotate them and mix them up so viewers and listeners don't get tired of them.

Rose, when I stand in my front yard I see Good Sam hospital across the freeway, about half a mile away.

We really are practically neighbors.  I'm about 7 miles away from Good Sam, going south on 85.

Oh something I forgot to add. My youngest daughter was in a school talent show last night. It lasted three hours, a little too long if you ask me.  Anyway, after we left my husband told me he heard the older lady sitting next to him complain about a little girl who played the piano and sang a religious song. She said, "I thought there was separation of church and state".  This little girl was in 4 th grade.

I can remember in grade school our Christmas plays and things actually involved some singing some of the religious carols. No one complained back then, but that was 40+ years ago.

Seeing that this is now a revolving thread (Coach!), it'll be about 30 or so today, and mostly cloudy.  My lovely wife and I are going to drop The Heiress off at my in-laws, then go for a romantic lunch.  We'd go for a romantic dinner, but I'll be at the local AA meeting then.  (Yeah, there's a whole bunch of them around here all day, but I told a couple of people that I'd be at that one.)  I'd like to hit the tube around 1 PM or so to watch the Nationwide series race at Daytona to see how Danica Patrick does, but we'll be somewhere that I won't be able to do that . . . and I have no problem with that.

There's a lot to be said for offering to go get your own Valentine's Day present.....

Runnin' Buddy and I went shopping where I found a beveled mirror for the entry foyer that I've been looking for for months, then for sea salt scrub pedicures with hot stone massages.

He didn't have to go shopping and I'm such a happy camper!  :-)

Then we went to Walmart where half of the west half of the county was buying groceries in anticipation of the snow. Me...I just wanted groceries for the week.  ::) What a zoo.....but I did get a box of chocolates.
