A question about random drug testing
A friend of mine ( no not me lol ) Recently visited her Psych in Ohio. The psych told her that they would be performing random drug tests on patients and if they fail the drug test they would be removed from medication prescribed there.
My friend is disabled from depression, anxiety, and Bi polar disorder, Very severe all of them. She smokes marijuana to help cope with the emotional suffering and pain she has from her ailments.
My question is. Is it illegal, in Ohio, for a doctor/psych to random drug test with the threat of taking away much needed medication, without any laws saying so.
Hmmm.
I dunno, but I think any qualified physician has the "right" to drug-test any patient, in his attempts to decipher what's wrong.
I don't want a physician who's not using all means at his disposal to make a diagnosis of something.

1. I would tell your friend to move to a state that allows medical marijuana
Colorado comes to mind.
I don't know about Ohio's laws, but it should be in the state's statutes.

2. Yeah
I sent a message to the ACLU asking their advice. So hopefully that turns something up soon.
Ohio doesnt have any drug test enforcement laws, unless you're getting a job.
They sound like they are trying to do that crazy thing they are doing in Florida, requiring drug tests for disability and such

6. He likely is a chickenshit. This is his giving you tests you dont need, to cover HIS ass. Maybe his ins. requires him to. Maybe he has been flagged before for being slack on it.

7. Yes...
A family member of mine was on drugs for pain (he got hit by a moving vehicle and was disabled temporarily).
He was concerned about taking them as regularly as prescribed and becoming addicted - so he only took them sparingly and only when he was in alot of pain. As a consequence, his refill would be made before he was out - this was to make sure he had future refills he would get the refills before the scripts expired.
Basically, long story short... the doctor piss-tested him and didn't find enough of the drug in his system. Thought he might be scalping them (he certianly isn't). Instead of reducing his perscription to the amount actually taken it was cut off completely. Now, today, he is still in pain but cannot get a prescription for it.
Evidently, if you are prescribed drugs you'd better damn well be eating them. I'd imagine if they can take drugs away for not testing high enough for it... they can take drugs away for testing positive for other narcotics.

I can't imagine that the pot is helping depression & anxiety, more likely it is making those things worse.

Even still, you go to a doctor for THEIR advice. This doctor says marijuana is counter-effective to the prescribed therapies. If you don't like the therapy stop whining, pull stakes and roll.
Of course if this "friend" was such a genius at self-medicating he/she/it wouldn't need a shrink.

Now why would a psych clinic be doing randoms?
I think it is a state paid psych clinic.

Ding, ding, ding, first thing which popped into my mind. Court ordered or state paid program. :innocent:

MJ is a psychoactive drug........and does not "play well" with many legitimate prescription psychoactive drugs used for treatment of depression, and psychosis.......
Any licensed MD would be putting his license on the line, if he/she did not insist on an admitted pothead submitting to random checks while under their care.......

I am a huge supporter of 1005 drug testing for any person receiving welfare, Section 8, and SSDI money. Anyone want to bet that those rolls would be trimmed by 40%+?

I couldn't agree with you more, and would love to see that. I wonder what would happen, I mean REALLY happen if that were the case.

They always have a reason to be using dope don't they. ALWAYS. It could read like this and they would be fine with it;
I drink to excess because I'm depressed and I piss too much. On top of that my equilibrium sux and I have slurred speech. That's why I get drunk all the time ... It helps.

Well.....you DO remember the s**tstorm that the NAACP (and others) kicked up in Washington, when HUD imposed the rule that if you are caught selling drugs.....you get tossed out of Section 8 housing, don't you?
If drug use were a criteria for barring one from public assistance, the welfare rolls would be nonexistant.......

The fall out would be EPIC. And yes, the rolls would be nonexistant. But, I wonder what would happen to the people? I guess they would have to go somewhere else or be productive? That is what I was wondering.

Not at all, he is just protecting himself from a wrongful death lawsuit when one of you recreational drug-using losers manages to off yourself through the synergistic interaction between the drugs you were supposed to take for your health and the illegal drugs you took for your high.

Holy shit these people are dumb.
Every single one of those ailments are on the list of common side effects of heavy and or long term dope smoking - and they smoke more dope to try and deal with them.
Nothing like a healthy dose of a depressant to chase away the blues ::)

Or getting freebies through a clinical trials program.
There's always more to the story than meets the eye with these lying sacks of shit.
