Title: we're growing
Post by: franksolich on February 01, 2010, 04:25:31 PM
January 2010 was the biggest month ever, for conservativecave.

A great big "thank you" to all those who make this place flourish and prosper, from the members to the lurking primitives.

January 2010 1,124,000

The previous high had been 908,268 "page views" in October 2009.

The next largest high had been 883,694 "page views" in December 2009.

And after that, 835,723 in November 2009.

The current fifth highest is 724,172 in September 2009.

Before then, the usual monthly readings had been in the 500-600s.

Now, the January readings were distorted by the invasion of the Red Chinese, "archiving" this place for their own nefarious purposes.  Some sort of "firewall" has since been put up to prevent this sort of traffic, as it's not really people reading the site (and commenting upon it); it just uses up bandwidth.

The Red Chinese had been trickling in here for some time, but during three particular days in January, were here en masse, swarming like hordes of locusts.

I'm sure if they had asked first, there would've been no problems, but no, the Red Chinese crashed through here like a herd of stampeding buffalo without asking first.

No manners, the Red Chinese.

Given the concentration of their incursions, it's reasonable to assume that circa 200,000 of those "page views" were this, leaving circa 924,000, which still tops last October, and is more in line with "topics started" and "comments."

One can't change the official numbers, but I think 924,000 is about right.

February of course is a shorter month, and given the ennui, resentment, and comatose rage at the weather--which influence people's participation in web-sites (I know for a blunt fact it does mine)--it's likely February while being an okay month, is not going to break any records, or come even close.

But beginning in March, as the campaign season gets underway, probably we're going to continue hitting new highs.

Such success is not possible without the enthusiastic participation of members, and for that, I thank you all.

Frank - you (collective you for the admin here) should consider having a facebook page for conservative cave. You will get a LOT of traffic here through that venue.

It was not that long ago that 8,000 "page views" per day was the norm here; in fact, up until last summer, there were lots and lots of four-digit days.

Now the "floor" seems to be 25,000 per day; at least that's the criteria I use, when trying to decide if conservativecave needs some jump-starting--if it falls below that, time to create some interest and excitement here.

I dunno when the last time was, that conservativecave had a four-digit day; I had thought it would happen on Thanksgiving Day, and then Christmas Day, and then New Year's Day, traditionally slow times for internet traffic, but even those days all far exceeded 9,999 (four digits).

It's all good.

The one thing that bugs me however are the spiders and crawlers, which distort the numbers.  For a while there, the subject of goat-glands excited the most traffic here, and I wanted to see how monkey-glands would do, in comparison.

But unhappily, at about the exact same time I posted the second topic, Microsoft and all these other data-collectors bombed the site (392 on line at one time that day; way out of line with the norm), and so it became impossible to determine if, really, monkey-glands were more popular of a subject than goat-glands.

Yep, sorry about that. I get bored. heh.
