Title: It's Bush's fault...
Post by: Chris on January 31, 2010, 10:46:37 PM
A single fish in an infinitely larger sea of stupidity, the mental illness that is held up as "logic" by liberals in this country... a comment (http://jalopnik.com/comment/18915115/) from this discussion. (http://jalopnik.com/5460235/what-if-the-chevy-vega-had-been-a-good-car) :mental:

What if GM had not chintzed out on the Corvair and made Nader famous? There would have been no need for the Vega. Nader would have been a nothing and without him running for President in 2000, Gore gets Florida and we get spared Bush Lite's presidency. For want of a nail a kingdom was lost. Now we have bailed out GM, a corporation on the decline instead of having the GM that at one point ruled the car universe as thoroughly as it has ever been ruled in regards to domestic market share. Detroit is in literal ruins as if blasted by Betty bombers and Ju-87 Stukas during WW II. The heart of American industry is now called the Rust Belt. Buick is more popular in China than the USA...LOL!

1 out of 6 jobs in the US were vehicle-related when we were at our peak industrially, when the middle class had two-thirds of the population defined as such (being able to afford a house), when we still made color TV's, stereos and radios in America, when we could realistically think of going to the Moon (we haven't been back since 1973), when an SST was planned and the B-70 2000 MPH bomber was around, when we still made cars you could recognize a mile away and they had easy to remember names and THEY LOOKED GOOD!

Gee, thanks Mr. Capitalist System for promoting the equivalent of 2-14 type of season NFL head coaches to the ranks of CEO's to destroy our economy better than the Muscovites and Berliners ever could have!

I'll hold on to my remnant of American greatness, my 1991 Brougham with a body/chassis going back to the 1977 models and an engine going back to the 1955 Chevy V-8. It's the easiest car to find in the parking lot these days...LOL

Again... :mental:

So either the Chevrolet Corvair is the reason we bombed the last wedding party in Afghanistan, or Chinese Buicks caused the downfall of Lehman brothers.

I'm not quite clear on it yet.

I'm getting a vibe that the 2 point conversion in the NFL started nader's investing in real estate in the rust belt is the main reason this DUmpter resident decided to start drinking Drano.

Gee, thanks, Mr. DUmbass, for electing the equivalent of a 0-16 middle school coach who can't speak a coherent sentence without a teleprompter to the ranks of POTUS to destroy the country better than the muslim goatf***ers ever could have.!

Why didn't Nader jump on the VW Beetle? It had the gas tank in the very front. ....no fame, no gain and no deep pockets.

GM also once owned/built Detroit Diesel, Allison transmissions, EUCLID/TEREX heavy equipment. Why did the government break up GM with anti-trust suits? Thank you communists for running a great company in the ground....now you own it.

Actually, Roger Penske bought Detroit Diesel from GM, because GM was running it into the ground....

I'm fully expecting the DUmmies to blame literally everything on President Bush & Reagan until the day I die.

Hopefully, THEY will expire before you will....

And, yes, they will be blaming Reagan and Bush (either one) for the failure they call life....

I sometimes drop in on the DU and it's depressing.  So much hate, anger and blame, and it's never "their" fault  :whatever:

Though it is a hoot to see what ads the topics generate !

But VW Bug does float and I know that from personal experience. Just think if Teddy "Swimmer" Kennedy had been driving a Bug instead of an Oldsmobile he would have been president.

Wasn't there a magazine ad about that?  I seem to recall seeing one....

I do remember Dustin Hoffman doing VW commercials....

It was National Lampoon that did the Kennedy VW ad:

"If Ted Kennedy Drove a Volkwagen, He'd Be President Today" (http://www.jasoncoleman.com/Media/Images/tedvwsmall.jpg)

Exactly, that's where it comes from. IIRC both The Swimmer and VW went after Lampoon on that.

Neither.  Canadian built Chevy S-10's and Mexican built Ford Crown Vic's caused 9/11!

Right, I thought I'd seen it somewhere.
