Air America Ceasing Live Programming This Afternoon

Source: Air America

It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a "perfect storm" in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry's long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.

Those companies that remain are facing audience fragmentation as a result of new media technologies, are often saddled with crushing debt, and have generally found it difficult to obtain operating or investment capital from traditional sources of funding. In this climate, our painstaking search for new investors has come close several times right up into this week, but ultimately fell short of success.

With radio industry ad revenues down for 10 consecutive quarters, and reportedly off 21% in 2009, signs of improvement have consisted of hoping things will be less bad. And though Internet/new media revenues are projected to grow, our expanding online efforts face the same monetization and profitability challenges in the short term confronting the Web operations of most media companies

16. Let's work on this rationally.

Of course, most of the posts will be about the conspiracy against liberal radio, media conglomeration, "corporate america," etc.

I truly believe this can be a beneficial learning experience though. Our product wasn't selling. The American people were not buying what we were selling. Why? And what can we do about it?

I can tell you but you won't believe me.

The reason people weren't buying what AAR was selling was because the market is saturated with liberal news.  I could go to NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NYT, Washington Post, the LA Times, NPR, etc... and hear the same thing I got on AAR.  AAR was just another voice in the liberal main stream media, it offered nothing new.

See, told you you wouldn't believe me.

They were also bought and sold a few times. It never made financial sense. They signed the idiot Franken to a big contract, paid up front and then he skips out...

Somebody ran out of money, apparently PSA's and pleas for donations didn't pay them bills.

Well, their existence wasn't totally in vain. One of their on-air personalities got himself elected to the U.S. Senate courtesy of the voting populace of Minnesota perhaps due to his daily, anti-American diatribes.

The Minnesota moonbats are the same group of pinheads that elected Jesse Ventura as governor, deadPaul Wellstone as senator, and the only state that Ronaldus Magnus did not carry, as they voted for their favorite moonbat son in 1984. To cap it off and prove their moonbat credentials, they like ice hockey.

I really thought Air America was immune from the effects of a recession, since they never had any advertising revenues to begin with.

1. What a shitty week.

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The game of life is hard to play
I'm going to lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
So this is all I have to say

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works it's way on in
The pain grow stronger watch it grin

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

A brave man once requested me
To answer questions that are key
Is it to be or not to be
And I replied "Oh why ask me."

Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

And you can do the same thing if you please.

It had nothing to do with free markets. It had to do with leftists who had too much time and money (other peoples) that finally ran out.

If we had an AAR station here, and this is Madison WI, I was blissfully unaware of it.

Our more liberal talk station carries Glenn Beck and Dennis Miller in the mid-morning to late afternoon and at night they have moonbat Alan Colmes, who gets the most insane callers.  But mostly I listen to WIBA for Rush and Vicki McKenna (a local conservative talker) and then listen to Mark Levin over the Interwebs.

The Tea Party movement has a million voices waiting to be heard. There's enough talent in there, just go find it. Get on their internet network and tell the local groups to nominate their best speakers. Not only will they scramble to be heard but they will enjoy listneing to heir own.

Personally, I'd be honored if Sith Master/Emperor Bunny did the voice overs. I'm checking in with my local Tea Party people courtesy of Mr. Thundleys thread. Tea Party (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,39522.msg429262.html#new)

I'll have to check with the board of directors. I think we have half a dozen. Most of whom may or may not be profligate alcoholics....I'm just sayin'.

The point is, we're fixing Air America to better reflect the values of...oh...I dunno', sane people. So stay tuned.

I heard it on XM radio.  Here in VA, I get Rush at noon, Hannity at 3, both on WFNR, then stream Levin on the net from WMAL 630 (like I'm doing right now).  There used to be a second talk station in the area that aired Beck, later changed to Laura Ingraham.  Now, they play OLD (and I mean OLD) country music....

You did once mention living in AZ, right? I decided to include AZ in the new story I started at the Libertyfic site. Specifically Gilbert, AZ to begin with. I used Google Maps to get a look at the town and stuff. I hope I can't be sued for using real business names in a not-for-profit online story.
