Homeless people fined, Jailed, for SLEEPING in Boulder, CO
http://www.dailycamera.com/boulder-county-news/ci_14225...
Criminalizing homelessness is such a brilliant idea.
I don't even know what to say anymore.... this is close to home....
Will anyone ever care what is happening to those of us you consider beneath you?
It's an enormous campfire.

1. So, when they can't pay the fine, will they be jailed?
This is ridiculous. Homelessness is so prevalent today... but you're right... too many consider the homeless beneath themselves. And they won't care until it happens to them. And it very well could. Easily. TOO EASILY!
Now wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
What's this "homelessness is so prevalent today" thing?
Didn't the primitives promise us il Duce Bo would have that taken care of, one year and one day ago, today?
What's the hold-up?

36. I keep saying that affluence has dragged this country down the terlet.
I used to think it was important for a democracy to have a thriving middle class.
But now we can see that as people become more affluent, they become more selfish, and more insulated.
People were more human, and cared about each other more during the Depression.
I think there is seriously something to learn from that.

49. You obviously did not live through the Depression
Squatters' camps were cleared out to make room for income-producing development. People weren't "better," but we did have the WPA and CCC so they did have hope of jobs (though some, like my grandfather, were too proud to accept 'hand-out' jobs like those). Times and people were harder, but memories get distorted by maudlin fiction from the time.

72. Oh, stop with the smug denigration.
I KNOW that people cared a lot more about each other BECAUSE I have heard lots of stories from family members WHO LIVED THROUGH IT, and from older friends who also did.
They don't understand attitudes like yours, because they lived it, and know that everyone helped everyone else, however they could.
So kill the sneering put downs. Its a prime example of what I'm talking about.

Well, that's only the first few comments of many, but most here can imagine how the rest of the campfire goes.
Does anybody have a spare copy of Dale Carnegie's How To Win Friends and Infuence People, that they're willing to donate to the homeless bobbling primitive?

I'm surprised anybody replies to her. Who needs that kind of aggravation? No matter what you say, she comes at you with teeth bared and fists clenched. No wonder she's homeless; she's not fit for civilized living.

93. It has been posted before and is pretty well know.
I would like to know though why you want her to post her story again.
Demanding that any homeless person who speaks up tell their story, and then defend how poor they really are, and what they have done/haven't done before they are "allowed" any credibility to speak is a regular and IMHO disgusting ritual.
I would hate to think that something like that was happening here, except that I've seen it happen here at DU, and I think it has even happened to Bobbolink in the past.

102. I was asking out of concern
I'm not here all the time, ThomCat, sometimes for long stretches and I thought it was a sign of caring to inquire.
in most other situations in life when someone mentions a situation, it's considered caring to ask.
I don't expect anyone to defend how poor they are. People here don't know my situation, and I certainly do not judge anyone for finding themselves out on the street in this economy.

I have an old FR friend (she was Millee there) that lives nearby and has told me about Boulder.
It is closer to Moscow in politics.
Stop to think about it...no surprise that they would go that route, the Communists never left much laying around that would make the system look bad either.

The bobbling primitive is making a good point, that Boulder is a liberal city and yet they jail the homeless. Of course, the other primitives refuse to view themselves as they really are, which is that they hate the poor, and so doing what it takes to deflect the report is all they can do.

Every web forum has people who post like that, unfortunately - her radio is stuck on transmit, she is unable to actually listen to any feedback telling her she might possibly be haring off down the wrong trail or could be something less than an Einstein. No matter what anyone comes back with, it only spins her up more, the idea that they might have a point never crosses her homeless little brain.
-
Isn't jailing the homeless solving the problem? Bobbolink wouldn't be homeless any longer, nor would she go hungry. Do they have internet connections in jail cells now? That might be her only set back.
-
I'm surprised anybody replies to her. Who needs that kind of aggravation? No matter what you say, she comes at you with teeth bared and fists clenched. No wonder she's homeless; she's not fit for civilized living.
Oh yeah, she's awful. She lit into my mole on a thread that had nothing to do with homelessness. :-) She evidently saw others fighting and like the errant hyena, decided to lunge in for a nip. :hyper:
I imagine no self-respecting house would allow her to stay.
-
Does anyone know why she's homeless? I thought she lived in a car or trailer or something.

Mork's house was on every corner of every neighborhood! You could buy herb downtown on the sidewalk, and smoke it on the way back to your car! ETA:(not that I ever did, heh, heh)

I thought the hobo was living in Denver. Anyway, if you get an iPhone, I think AT&T requires that in addition to your cell account, you have to sign up for an unlimited data package, total probably around $50/month; I'm sure many here have iPhones and know. Pretty high tariff for someone who shits on the sidewalk and sleeps under cardboard. The Boulder policy sounds like it might be good for public safety. If it means being locked up with someone who smells like bobo the hobo, you might thing twice about driving under the influence.

Yep, you have to do that with any smartphone. Data plans start at $30 but if you actually want to make calls and text you have to have a plan (or plans) for that too.
