A WORD ABOUT DONATING

I received this message from a DUer whose wife works at a local food bank. He asked me to pass it along to all of you...

The logistics of organizing local contributions of solid goods are just impossible to manage. Getting those boxes of (for example) cans of food, or boxes of clothing from a locality in the U.S. to Haiti is virtually impossible.

Please, please urge that DUers who want to help donate MONEY rather than food or clothing, or any other material goods, to the various agencies that have set up channels for contribution. Those agencies are best able to provide the aid that's needed in the most efficient and fastest way.

It's much more effective for an aid agency to turn cash into food that's quickly transportable to Haiti than it would be to (again, for example) transport a pallet of cans from Kansas to Haiti.

I truly believe this is an important message. Americans always want to help; but we need to help in the way that helps best.

Please take a moment to donate now. And give this thread a kick and a rec so more DUers can see it.
Crickets.... :-) This would have been funnier had he asked them to donate to DU! :-)http://www.democraticunderground.com//discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7518816

Donate to private charities because lord knows Obama will screw up the relief effort.

Gang, I'm gonna take the opposite tack here--kudos to Skinner for trying to channel his inmates' anger to something good (for a change).

It will probably have the effect of a snowball in dousing the Fires of Hell, but it's something.

I was just wondering what skinner's kick back was.

Beats me.  Probably 25% or something like that.

The Red Cross takes out too much of one's donation in administrative fees. I'd find other charities to donate to.

Unicef is just as bad.

Doctors Without Borders does a lot of good works. There are groups of them all over the place and they frequently go to third world countries to do medical/surgical work. They all donate their time, and the money goes for supplies and air fuel.

I sent mine to DWB.

Let's see.  They gave their time, money, sweat and tears.  MANY tears   :-)  to their progressive candidate only to have her lose and now Skinner asks them to give more.

When I saw that thread I thought it was a kick in the butt after last night.

I really did.  But then I remembered they lie about giving so I just giggled.

I donated to DWB after looking at various charities on www.charitynavigator.com.  They have pretty good write-ups on various charities and also show a breakdown of where the money actually goes.

37. I'm going to a therapy session to keep myself sane. That's all I got right now.

Yet wonders why it can`t get a job?  :whatever:
