After conferring with owners Jerry and Ann Moss, a decision has been made to run the champion mare Zenyatta in 2010 rather than breed her, trainer John Shirreffs said Jan. 16.

The undefeated Zenyatta, a finalist for 2009 Horse of the Year, had been working weekly at her Hollywood Park base since becoming the first female to win the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) in electrifying style Nov. 7. She has posted three half-mile workouts at Hollywood recently.

"She's just been training so well since the Breeders' Cup. You know Mr. Moss is such a great sportsman and he really wanted to see her run again," an overjoyed Shirreffs said while confirming Zenyatta's un-retirement, first reported by Daily Racing Form.

Of a possible meeting with the other 2009 Horse of the Year finalist, Rachel Alexandra, Shirreffs responded, "Obviously, that's something everyone would like to see."

Love it...as long as she runs outside of California.

I wonder if we'll see her at, say, the Alabama in August . . .

I think the Alabama is for three year olds, but I like the way you think...would definitely drive up to Saratoga to see her run.

I missed Zenyatta's age . . .  :thatsright:

Just as an aside here, a buddy of mine who lives in a 'burb of Albany hit an OTB exacta on Saturday that paid $773.  He was keying off a Billy Mott horse which was 5-2.  Well, this 99-1 shot beat the Mott horse at the wire.  It paid $204 or something to win, too.  As I was talking to him on our cells, he was mentioning that this had been a heluva day--the 'Cuse won on the road at West Virginia, and he had hit the exacta . . .

Back to the topic . . . said filly might run in an undercard race that day.  Gonna be worth watching.

Nice exacta...

Would really like to see Zenyatta come east. Would also like to see her run on the turf. Doubt that'll happen though.

Time to start handicapping. Getting a late start today.
