Title: Sloppy Sunday 1/17
Post by: NHSparky on January 17, 2010, 07:49:10 AM
E-filed taxes Friday, still no confirmation from IRS yet despite the 24-48 hour claim.  Expecting one tomorrow.

25 now, high of 35 expected, but then the rain/sleet/snow kicks in tonight.

6-9 inches expected, depending upon how soon it changes from rain to snow.  Translation: roads will be slicker than shit tomorrow morning with that nice layer of ice underneath.  Already got the alarm clock set for 4 am to clear out the driveway and give myself extra time to get to work.

... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM EST MONDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM EST MONDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND SOUTHWEST MAINE THIS EVENING INTO MONDAY. SIX TO NINE INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE BY THE TIME THE SYSTEM DEPARTS MONDAY AFTERNOON. SNOW AMOUNTS WILL DECREASE QUICKLY NORTH OF THE MAIN SNOW BAND.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

And no, not traveling tomorrow is NOT an option.  One does NOT miss training for any reason, ever.  But at least I'm in training all week, supposedly.

Aside from that, a nice quiet day.  Fix some breakfast, kick the dog outside for a while, then maybe go to the local watering hole to watch the games.

I really could have used another five hours of sleep.  Mostly drizzle outside -- no real rain.

As long as my phone doesn't ring, I'm going back to sleep.

Okay, somebody call Chris.

As we used to say on the boats:

"Not a hair on your ass, mister."

I'm trying to switch to advil instead of vicodin before I go back to work tomorrow.  Not the most comfortable thing in the world.

Rain forecasted today through next week.  They are talking about getting 15 inches this week, which we definitely need, but that will likely cause some issues because rain has been so light so far this year.

They "say" we are supposed to see sun, but I am not counting on it.  Still dreary.

Trying to figure out what to do with a once beautiful snapper filet, that has started to get a little freezer burn around the edges. damn.

And six FEET of snow up in the Sierras--oh, what ever will the SF tourists do?  How will they ever get over the mountain to gamble in Reno or Tahoe?

Yeah, I see more than 3 inches of rain at any shot and I think of two things from my SoCal days:

1--Mudslides.
2--Every television station sending the asshole reporter nobody likes to do, "STORM WATCH 2010!!!!" in a raincoat and microphone.  Maybe they're hoping he'll get electrocuted.  Whatever.

They always send the rookies out during hurricaine season.

As long as I am no where near Jim Cantore, I know I am safe.   :-)

Actually, KNBC always sent out Gordon Tokumatsu, and he was a pretty senior guy.  But Paul Moyer was more senior, despite being the bigger asshole, so he got to stay warm and dry.

Rain, rain, rain and then for a change, more rain! Husband decided today was a good day to teach 14 yr old son how to replace a kitchen sink faucet . . . a couple of hours, an extra trip to HD and a certain amount of loud father/son "bonding" and I have a snazzy new sink faucet and sprayer, yay!  Our well water eats fixtures like candy, unfortunately!
