Title: Global Warming and Climate Change Defined
Post by: The Night Owl on January 15, 2010, 11:22:39 AM
The term global warming and the term climate change are two distinct terms. Global warming is defined as an increase in average global temperature. Climate change is defined as changes in all or various aspects of climate. Two terms for two purposes.

In the interest of fairness to TNO, this definition (the OP) is the result of a discussion in the "Religious Discussions" forum, that I did not want to turn into a discussion of the semantics of "Global Warming, vis-a-vis "Climate change".  Per the revised rules, I allowed several posts on this subject, as some latitude should be present in general terms, but decided that the topic (if there really is one) should be relocated.

To place it in context, another member used the analogy that when "climate scientists" began to run into problems with the concept of "Global Warming" in the real world, the "name" was changed to maintain the momentum of their efforts, and defend the principle.......TNO was citing examples where it "appeared" (to another member) that evolution scientists were doing the same thing.........I have no position, one way or another on TNO's citations, or arguments.  I merely wanted to maintain the focus of the original thread.

The original thread was on the topic of Darwinian evolution..........

Should the combatants wish to continue the discussion of the change in the definition of these terms, this is the appropriate place for that discussion to occur......

That is all.......

At least he had the good sense to leave the word "anthropogenic" out.

Except when Liberals use it to change the goal posts because all their hysterical hand wringing about how the ice caps are melting and polar bears are starving to death turns out to be a big fat lie.

Climate Change gives them cover to blame any and all changes in the weather to be blamed on man.

Specifically white people of American origin.

I challenge human's ability to split off continents, as well as our ability to either warn, or cool an entire planet.

Obviously it's from all those heavy SUVs rumbling and pressing on the fragile earth's crust. The earth in tens of thousands of miles across but only a dozen of so miles of mantle absolutely necessary for the support of life.

FACT: That means there is less than 0.1% of the earth's total thickness available for humans.

If we fracture the earth's crust the damage will be irreparable. This is simply a chance we cannot afford to risk. We need to immediately outlaw heavy vehicles, marching bands and jumping jacks. Why, on DU they even had a thread that the Indonesian tsunami was from all the bombs dropping in Iraq loosening the earth's crust.

YOU WOULDN'T CALL DU CRAZY...WOULD YOU?!?!?!?

It'll have to do until we come up with a better word....at least one that more accurately describes their condition.
