Title: Wimpy Wednesday
Post by: Thor on January 13, 2010, 03:49:23 PM
So far, today has been without incident or drama for me. I'm working on a friend's computers, doing virus/ trojan removal and reinstalling drivers that got corrupted.

PEOPLE, PLEASE run an anti-virus on your computers. The best one I've found is Avast!  They have a free version, which works well and a fee version which works even better!!!

This gets sorta esoteric, but what the hey...

Not long after I signed onto this gig, a rash of out-of-specification results came up associated with about 10 of our product codes.

We were pretty sure the issue was central to a raw material (actually a film) that we use, but the end result was we had an OOS.

In my line of work, that's a problem.

But the actual specification range (at the high end) was fundamentally subjective in nature. If the spec was exceeded, the worst thing that would happen is that a customer/patient would have to employ The Hulk to activate the pouch and thereby create cold. (We manufacture thermal packs.)

In other words, the subassembly that is supposed to burst upon squeezing, wouldn't.

Assigning a value to this kind of spec is a little iffy too.

Anyway, we've been limping along for more than two years now on a system that I imported from the pharma world called "planned deviations". This one was planned a lot longer than is intended, but the upshot is, I crunched the numbers and wrote a paper justifying raising the upper spec limit. I verbally talked it over with my boss, who is in Chicago (I'm in Missouri) and he liked what I'd done.

So I get to close out a thorn that's been in my side for more than two years AND raise the spec limit, which should remove our problem.

(There's a lot of detail I didn't get into, what with how the specs came to be, etc., but let's just say it's a Happy Day.)

Avast is awesome, and Pilsner is too.

Initially, Avast found 14 incidences of viruses. I ran Malwarebytes and found 67 incidences of spyware, adware and trojans. I booted up in Safe mode and ran both scans again. Malwarebytes found a couple more, as did Avast, both separately run. Now, I'm running BOTH scans again  just to insure cleanliness and I'm going to download Spybot S&D just to catch some things that the others may not have.

Longest. Day. EVER.

Subbed in kindergarden today.  22 of the little dears.

With basically NO lesson plans. Oh, I had her plans, which said stuff like :  11- 11:50 Stations.   Thats it...nothing that said what the stations were, how many, groups, nothing.

I could sure use a beer...or a glass of wine.

Ferris Bueller is on cable.

I got hungry last night and made some waffles.  It was all I could think about today, getting home and making more.  Thank God for instant pancake mix.

I am watching Ferris Bueller right now!

Thor, I am not technically savvy, but the BF is, and he installed avast on my laptop.  I love it.  I am going to attempt learning Linux, at some point too.

Chris....have you tried the Krustez belgian waffle mix? I use it with my regular waffle maker. They are much lighter than regular Bisquick. Also if you let the batter set for about 10 minutes...it almost doubles.

I'm not a waffle fan...but I love these.  Especially with melted butter and hot roasted pecan syrup.

I'm laid up in bed for the rest of week recovering from my ankle surgery.  It sounds like it went smoothly and the doctor didn't see anything unexpected.  I have a soft cast up to my knee.  Not the most comfortable, but I'm hopeful that this will fix my issues  :cheersmate:

That is great news!  Follow doctor's orders and take care of yourself!

Blood sugar higher than I like--chalk it up to goofy hours and goofy eating habits this week.

Cold as crap, as per normal.  Spring is only five months away.

Good to hear that things apparently went well.....now comes the tough part....doing only what you are supposed to do!

Prayers for ease of recovery!
