It's hard to get back into the normal weekday routine when there's been 2 short weeks but Friday does eventually get here.
Got a couple of inches of snow, as expected, overnight but it's sunny now and in the high 20s. No big plans for the weekend, just enjoying the last couple of quiet weekends in Jan. before tax season starts (husband's a CPA and works from a home office) and we have clients over constantly for the next few months. Not complaining, it's just sometimes difficult to get into our driveway! :-)

Cold. Commute in was 14 degrees, w/o wind chill. I am not complaining, because there is no ice. Half day for me, so WOOT!
So, on my way to work, I stop by a Tetco. As I am walking in, I see a car running at the front door, and smell burning. Steam coming out the radiator, as far as I can tell. I pass a man walking outside with a couple of gallons of water. Make my purchase, and leave. Dude is putting WATER in his radiator. Did I mention that it is 14 degrees outside, and that we aren't going to see above freezing temps for somewhere around 48 hours?
I believe that honda bit the big one.

Maybe it's just a stopgap measure to get him home, after which he's gonna stick the car in a garage while he either changes out the thermostat, water pump, or radiator/heater hoses. Only then -- after the problem is fixed -- do you want to dump in expensive antifreeze.
Otherwise, yeah, he's headed for problems with a cracked block.

I got the impression he was just stupid. But, I guess you just had to see the stupid. Damn. I didn't check for bumper stickers! I coulda had a bouncy!

Well, there is no shortage of stupid in this country. But stupid happens without the added evidence of bumper stickers. So maybe you have a bouncy after all!

I just wanted an opportunity to use that guy. :-)

My best friend from high school called me last night. Sunday night she had the scare of her life. For over a month everyone in the house were getting migraines and what she thought was passing the flu back and forth. Friday her daughter was so sick she stayed him from school. When my friend came home her daughter was vomiting and sicker. Over the weekend everyone was sick. She lives in Tulsa and they are having Some of the coldest weather they have ever had so her furnace has been working overtime.
By now I bet you have figured out it was carbon monoxide. She woke up at 5:00 am and the temp was 50 degrees in her house. Something had happened to her heat. She called her exhusband and he walked her through how to get it back on. She got it to turn back on but not too long after it came back on she got a massive headache. She thought it could be carbon monoxide so she called her landlord (she is renting a house). The landlord called out a heating guy and he did a test. The results were so high that if her furnace hadn't turned off at 5:00 am they would all be dead. When she thought it could be carbon monoxide she took her kids and went to her parents house.
Funny thing is, they had a carbon monoxide detector in the house and it didn't go off. I thought I would post this as a warning to you all to get carbon monoxide detectors or check the ones you have.

Good God BEG! Something like that happened here too, within the last week. New rental home, first night in it.
Your friend is truly blessed. And, yes, I checked mine. I am adding another one, in my bedroom, which is right next to my furnace too.

Did you tell him to throw hot water on his windows to defrost them faster, too? Sorry, but stupidity SHOULD be painful.
Don't have to deal poker tonight, so I'm debating as to whether or not I want to play. Just got done with the test for class--I feel like I gave birth to a diesel. DBPP done for now, DG outage next week.
And oh yeah--cold is a-comin. Zero by this weekend, with highs MAYBE getting out of the teens. Celtic--weren't you the one willing to do some cuddling, dammit?

18 degrees and cloudy here but we are toasty warm in the house.... :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Going to go try venturing up to Gatlinburg so son's girlfriend gets to do something other than wait for a hot shower.... ::)....don't know how far we will get. Supposedly the main roads are pretty clear, but the rest are all iced over.....
Coming from Nebraska, she is amazed how little it takes to shut down E TN.... :lmao:....

You should see how little it takes to shut down North Central Texas !!! We went out to eat last night and the restaurant that is normally crowded and packed to the gills was almost empty (comparatively). I guess these Texans are afraid of a little cold. :clueless: Sure doesn't seem the the Texans I knew. [/0bama]

Had a family discussion and decided we would go to the movies instead.....the men in the family don't want to walk around in the cold. It was very descriptively put that their voices would be several octaves higher.... :whatever:
Wimps....

****ing Friday. G** damn mother-****ing Friday.
So they do an "upgrade" on the phones at work, which means (predictably) the whole ******* system crashes. Call volume goes through the roof. They get the phone system back up, but it doesn't work worth a damn. Nobody tells us poor ****ers anything... they make up some bullshit about the cold weather being the problem for our ****ed-up automated phone system that handles at least half of our call volume. It's the cold weather. It's the phone lines. Its an issue with the customer's phone. Bull. Shit.
What pisses me off even more is that our incompetent management can't even be bothered to find out what the real problem is, or to at least make an effort to communicate to the people (me) who have to deal with the results of their ****ing mess what the problem is. "The new automated system is ****ed. We're working on it." They can't even do that much. Instead, the muppet next to me is babbling some shit to a customer about touch tone frequencies and phone lines. You know, I'm pretty sure Ma Bell had that shit figured out a couple decades ago... I really don't think that's the problem. So I try to dial into our automated system from my desk and run a transaction over the phone. No, it's not any of that retarded list of faults you tried to pawn off on us, its your ******* phone system. Fix it, you ****ing boobs, or at least put the old one back online.
Instead, they do nothing and tell us to continue to lie to our customers. Don't tell them the phone system is down! Make something up! Sorry, no can do. You broke it, you fix it. I have work to do.

Chris, my first cable TV job taught me NEVER to do upgrades, major changes, etc on a Friday. The reason why is that by the time one usually figures out a solution, every parts place or support place is gone or tied up in some way.

Scary. The apartment management here put in a carbon monoxide/radon detectors when they changed the windows the other year. I'm perfectly capable of poisoning myself without any outside assistance. I charged a battery on one of my workbenches overnight and woke up sick from the hydrogen gas. Funny... that's the only time that's happened. I think that battery was FUBAR'ed anyway.

We went to see "Zombieland".....
to say that it sucked is an understatement.
The other half and the son liked it.
Men... :banghead:

I thought it was supposed to be kind of funny? I'll wait until I can download it. :)

The guys laughed. There were a couple of funny places....but I could not get past the gore.
I like "shoot 'em up" movies, and I will even watch the SyFy channel and enjoy it....but this was over the top in gore the first few opening scenes.
The humans turn into zombies and eat each other...and it's extremely graphic. Guess it's just easier for me to watch a shark or inhuman creature devour a human being. It's cleaner than in this movie.
