WASHINGTON — Senator Christopher J. Dodd, the embattled Connecticut Democrat who was facing an increasingly tough bid for a sixth term in the United States Senate, has decided not to seek re-election this year, Democrats familiar with his plans said Wednesday.
Mr. Dodd, 65, is to announce his decision at a news conference Wednesday afternoon in Connecticut.
The decision came hours after another Democratic senator, Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota, also announced that he would not seek re-election this November. The developments underscored the fragility of the Democrats’ 60-vote Senate majority, which is just enough to block Republican filibusters. Democratic incumbents also face serious challenges in Arkansas, Colorado, Nevada and Pennsylvania among other states.
In this case, Mr. Dodd was already considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats facing re-election this November, and party officials had been privately hoping he would step aside. His move opens the way for the state’s highly popular attorney general, Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat, to run. Democrats and Republicans said he would be a much stronger candidate in what is a Democratic state.

As a matter of fact, I have been under a rock. Or at work, anyway. :p
Buh bye and good riddance.

I am sorry that POS will not run. It would have been a lot easier for the Repubs to pick up that seat if he had stayed in the fray.
-
I tend to think that Byron Dorgan's seat would be the more difficult one, for the Dems, to retain. All of the damage that Dodd has done to the insurance industry, with the Obamessiah's help, is going to catch up to the Dems this election cycle and next. Maybe even into 2014.
-
So much for having the courage of their convictions.

Yep. Shit all over the country and then flee. Remarkable cowardice.

I think the fact the Republican running against him was ahed in some polls was the reason Dodd called it quits.

I agree and wonder if some pressure was being put on him to retire.

Nah. He saw the handwriting on the wall and realized he was actually gonna have to work to get re-elected...and instead of standing up and defending all of the administrations policies he's supported...he took the typical Liberal response of cut and run.

Buh Bye little piggy. Go suckle at somone's else trough.

Oh don't worry; he'll surface on K Street before too long, and be a regular on the Sunday propaganda show circuit.
Every dollar he's made has been from the taxpayer's wallet, and he's not about to stop living on the taxpayer's largesse if he can help it.

I agree with this!
But - he's a coward and he took the easy way out - he loses no face by bailing. He should have been "impeached" long ago; now we're stuck paying for his lifetime gov. pension. Rat bastard.
-
I think Rat Bastard is way too kind of a name for this a$$ hole.... :censored:

I think they see a Right controlled Congress in the future and all those that either still have investigations or have had investigations in their past that have been stopped on Capital Hill are getting out before they go to prison. There are about 10 or 15 still in play.

I'm just waiting to see if my moonbat Congresscritter has the honor to fall on her sword for the shit she's pulled.
Oh, who the hell am I kidding?

There is no honor among thieves/congresscritters. Just ask Murtha.

Sir, if your moonbat congress-shit is anything like the moonbat congress-shit and moonbat senators I currently endure, she is a fugitive from the DUmp who couldn't spell 'honor' correctly in 4 posts out of 5, and so of course has no concept of what this 'honor' thingy is.
Mention the word 'honor' to such a critter, and they assume it is that which gets heaped upon you for suckering at least 50%+1 of the stoopid voters to give ACORN something to work with when they rig the election for you.

Carol Shea-Porter. She ranks high on teh crazeee scale, does Che.

HI,
What a crock of Pelsoi! The guy is so full of Pelosi (and I mean a big crock too) I could hardly keep from screaming at the TV with a mouth full of peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The guy has been a major player in destroying our economy, our nation, and should be in jail for the graft and ethics violations and he just goes on like he is one of the greatest statesmen that ever lived.
One has to wonder if they are so ingrained that they can lie and actually end up lying to themselves at the same time.
Do you think they really believe what they are saying?

Now if only we can convict them!

He's even more corrupt than his father was, if that is indeed possible, but he adds being a total perv to it.

Yes.

Screw convictions. Beck read a survey yesterday that the number of Americans who feel you have a RIGHT to a trial by a jury (etc... etc... etc...) is down to about 65%. I can go with that - in these 546 cases anyway. Lets skip straight to sentencing and execution of sentence...

Connecticut residents should NOT be fooled by their current AG Richard Blumenthal...who now wants to run for Senator. He is just more of the same, big time!!
Cavuto just interviewed Blumenthal (aka: look-a-like George McFly, Back To The Future) on the HC reform bill and Blumenthal danced around the questions like they were hot! :shame:

A Repub controlled Congress will lay down and play dead when it comes to holding hearing and investigating of past or present legislators. The Democrats have shit all over the Repubs and they turn around and wear it as a hat. Pathetic.

I agree.....but you have to admit that there are a hell of a lot of Dems jumping ship right now......they see something coming down the track, and it has them scared shitless.......there will be more to come.

Then if your convictions are that strong then why are you posting in Conservative Cave.If we don't do something about then it is our fault isn't it.
-
Then if your convictions are that strong then why are you posting in Conservative Cave are you a Liberal.
He's speaking from experience......for the years that the Republicans controlled the legislative branches, they seemed to go out of their way to placate the "minority", who, when they regained power promptly stabbed them in the back.......I think that we all wonder if that scenario will be repeated, or will the current crop of "Republicans" grow a set......also, "Republican" and "Conservative" are not necessarily synonymous......

Doc all I can say is it is our fault for putting weak livered people in office .I know very little about Politics but I am 70 years old a converted Democrat and dammed tired of sitting back and watching my Country go to crap.I have always voted for the person I thought was right for the job.But one thing for certain I have never been a quitter.

Hi,
I think Limbaugh nailed it again today. If you are a congressman and get voted out of office you make less money than one who chooses not to run again for re-election. It is just one more example of these assholes looking after their own pockets.

Heard this about 8:00AM CT time. Unfortunately I wasn't able to log in here to join the celebration. However I fear far worse things await Dudd's departure ie: Attorney General Dick Blumenthal (D-CT) is now as close a shoe-in for Dudd's spot as ever there was.
-
I guess it don't matter much just so we get rid of this Buzzard. The Connecticut that already happened last Fall just might change the scope of things.Colorado Governor Bill Riter also announced he is stepping down.
What worries me is M Jodi Rell (R-CT) has already said she's done being governor and the local GOP has nobody capable of beating any one of the 11 or 12 Dems that are lining up for the job. Without a Republican (or even republican) Governor I think it's time to look at moving.

We have some good GOP here but at the present with Democrat in control of Congress we don't hear from them in Colo.
