Title: Sen. Dodd, D-Conn., slashed aviation security funding for pet constituency

Now that our attention is focused on airline security measures thanks to the failed airline attack on Christmas Day, it's worth mentioning that one Senator took money away from aviation security to line the pockets of constituency that supported his presidential campaign in a big way.

Back in July, Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., proposed an amendment reducing aviation security appropriations by $4.5 million in favor of firefighter grants -- a notoriously inneffective program. In fact, the money was specifically "for screening operations and the amount for explosives detection systems." The amendment was also sponsored by Sen. Lieberman, D-Conn., and Sen. Carper, D-Del., but Dodd deserves to be singled out here because the firefighters union is a pet constituency of his. In 2007 he campaigned all through Iowa with the firefighters union. It was one of the few distinguishable features of Dodd's ill-fated presidential bid. ...

Internal poll shows Dodd locked in close race with GOP rivals

Today, the Chris Dodd campaign released an internal poll that shows the senior senator in a trailing Rob Simmons 46 to 51 percent while coming out in a dead heat with Linda McMahon at 46 percent.
Some tidbits to take from the poll:

Once voters hear both positive and negative information about all three candidates, Dodd gains ground and leads McMahon by 5 points, 50 to 45 percent, and is in a statistical dead heat with Simmons, 49 to 48 percent. Furthermore, voters respond positively to Dodd's work in the Senate, particularly on health care reform, the passage of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act, and Dodd's economic plan to help small businesses and create jobs.

Dodd also benefits by the fact that Connecticut is a VERY blue state

The partisan environment in Connecticut remains among the best for Democrats out of any state in the country. President Obama is viewed favorably by a 2 to 1 margin, and the Democratic Party receives a favorable-unfavorable rating of 51 to 37 percent (+14 points). By contrast, the Republican Party is viewed very unfavorably and receives a poor rating of 29 percent favorable to 49 percent unfavorable (-20 points).

As Linda McMahon continues to answer questions surrounding her wrestling empire, and the teabagging right learn more about Rob Simmons true political record, with a little less than a year until the November elections, although this is an internal poll, nevertheless, this has to encouraging news for the Dodd campaign.

My left nutmeg indeed!!

BTW IIRC Dodd is experienced wrestling women, the classic story has he and a rum soaked Fat Teddy making waitress sandwich, but I don't know if he wants to go a few rounds with Linda Mc Mahon. :rotf:

Just the other day I wrote myself a note to send money to Dodd's opponents.

Whoever is running against Dodd , needs to keep hitting on his connection to the housing bubble/bust and the whole tanking economy that it caused.
