Republicans are stepping up their efforts to persuade more House Democrats to switch parties and are zeroing in on a second-term Pennsylvanian who acknowledged the efforts but said he has "no plans" to do so.

Democratic Rep. Chris Carney received a phone call Wednesday from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking him to consider becoming a Republican, a top GOP official told POLITICO.

Carney's office at first did not comment other than to acknowledge the call, but Carney released a statement Wednesday night saying, in part, "I appreciate the Republican Party's outreach, but I have no plans to change parties."

DCCC Chair Chris Van Hollen spoke to Carney Wednesday and received assurance that the Pennsylvanian was not switching, according to a senior Democratic aide.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's aides talked to Carney staffers, as well, and received the same assurance.

Don't know what this all means, except that there's a lot of nervous Democrats.

Still, though, it doesn't help for the Republicans to be yapping about it in public.  That's sort of like going all the way on the first date, and then hearing that the other person's been talking about it - and you - all over town.

Also, what matters more than just his party affiliation, is his vote.  I, for one, am perfectly happy to have him stay where he is, so long as he finally starts using the brains God gave him and votes against Obamacare.

Also, this highlights something else that all of us can chip in on - calling any Democrat who appears to have any qualms at all about Obamacare, or his/her political future, and, politely but firmly, hammer them on (a) how much damage Obamacare is going to do to this country and how intellectually and morally dishonest it, and the Democrat leadership, are (e.g., blatant double-counting of Medicare revenues to hide the fact that this monstrosity will blow out the budget from here to eternity), and (b) how much they are likely to suffer in the upcoming elections if they continue to support Obamacare.
