I just got fired over a french fry!
True story. I worked for a local casino. Managment, cooks, etc were allowed to eat whenever, wherever, whatever, they chose but the food servers are not. I have been busted a couple of times before for toast...yes, toast. Today it was a french fry.
I was told I had had too many disciplinary actions (write ups) therefore, I was fired. I started there in Dec. of '08. My record was pristine, PRISTINE for 8 months until I divulged my bi-polar, it has been hell ever since.
I am numb.
-
In other words you won`t abide by the rules, you claim as a defense (my assumption but bet accurate) that you have a mental issue so a place that has to deal with crowds and large sums of money fires you.
What exactly is the surprise here?

You mean, other than that the rules of reality - this reality, not the Bizzarro World reality DUmmies inhabit - applied to this DUmmy? :-)

7. Well, actually
I am a social worker that was pretending to be a food server. I hope you are right, Fire Walk With Me; however, I am 58 years old and we all, at this age, knows what THAT means
Greyt, just what the other mentally ill DUmmies need a social worker that also suffers from mental illness. :mental:

I knew it was familiar. I'm thinking the DUmmie had more than it's fair share of warnings of various rules violations and the french fry was just the last straw. The fry was probably taken from a customer's plate in view of the customer.
-
You don't just get fired for eating the food. Not that it doesn't happen, but you'd have to down some pricey food just for that. Sounds like she just didn't want to be part of the team. Restaurant work, waiting tables, or working in the kitchen is 100% teamwork. Probably refused to help the other servers, probably had a nasty attitude in the back of the house (away from the customers), probably slacked at her job. That's what will get you fired.

Aren't there medications for being bi-polar? Wouldn't alcohol be contra-indicated for those meds?

20. Thanks to all
who responded. I have drunk/drank enough wine to sink a ship since 3pm CST so I am going to bed. Best place for me right now.
I LOVE my DU family

I broke the rules.
I was warned.
I broke them again.
I was fired.
I'm surprised?????
And yes, alcohol is VERY BAD for bi-polar disease. Meds, such as Depakote help, even though they are designed for a different affliction. And a social worker would know that.

I read some time ago that many people who go into the mental health field do so to diagnose their own problems. OTOH, I knew a guy who went into that field because he loved the Bob Newhart Show.

No laylah they did not fire you for being a manic-depressive.....they fired you for stealing and your lack of impulse control which is a hallmark of all bipolars. Your meds are supposed to help with that but it sounds like you don't take them! Another hallmark of manic-depressives you take your meds and then you feel good then stop taking them because you feel good! :whatever:

Must be genetic. Both live on pharmaceuticals and can't keep a job.

14. I'm up for it! Altho I am hitched to a DUer who doesn't come around anymore. I'd have to see if she'd divorce me.

It certainly wouldn't have been the bipolar (unless that, too, was a lie of convenience), any large organization has an H.R. department, and H.R. people get the willies real bad anytime anything that smells like ADA crawls around - they might have started making sure that everyone wrote down whatever disciplinary comments they had to make, and documented them (e.g., with witnesses), mainly to protect their hinies from ADA liability, which may have collaterally led to your firing because then they would have had a good record of your malfeasance.

OMG!!!! Nobody better ever answer that questions affirmatively!
Remember that "social worker" who was paid "nothing" by the state and lived in his car or something?? In Oregon I think. I have no idea where they get this crap.

My guess is DUmmy laylah was eating a fry off a customer's plate as she delivered it to the table.

I'll kiss your ass if "it" isn't "self diagnosed" into bi polar. This is absolute BS! You mean to tell me they hire bi-polar imbeciles in order to counsel, bi-polar's who are in need of help???

To be fair, being bi-polar doesn't preclude someone from being intelligent, wise, successful or anything else. It's very possible to be bi-polar and become anything you want. It may just take one helluva lot more work.

I understand that, but the problem I have is DUmmies have to have some sort of mental illness in order to get street cred. Wouldn't surprise me if it was not invented, then lived or "self inflicted" itself, in order to be part of the "crowd"!

That was in allosaurs' home state, Idaho, next door to Oregon.

I'm thinking that you're right on on this one. She got caught putting her fingers in a customers dish.
There's always more to the story. Can you imagine someone like Paul Harvey covering the DUmp? :lmao:
-
Oh yes. We've discussed this case before, several months back. What it was, was that she was just a shitty waitress. Always slacking off on her tables, making others pick up the work, and blaming it on her bi-polarness. Getting written up all the time (pristine record, indeed!) We were pretty much doing over/unders on when she'd be fired. I'm surprised she lasted this long, truly.

Well there you go...we all know work is to DUmmies what garlic is to vampires.

Well, 'Pristine' except that little thingie about there being at least two other disciplinary write-ups, anyway.

Well, look what the DUmmies have for role models, sir. Little Timmy Geithner's record was pristine except for that little misunderstanding about who was responsible for paying his taxes, and look where he is today...

No; that's why the DUmmy is so incredulous. She wasn't even as corrupt as Tiny Timmy was, and he's still got a job, and she doesn't. :bawl:

41. Make and keep detailed records of what happened when.
Who, what, where, write down all details of confrontations/reprimands/incidents.
Go talk to an employment lawyer who specializes in Federal EEOC/Labor Law.
You notified them of your disability and they were supposed to make reasonable accommodations; apparently they did NOT make reasonable accommodations and fired you in retaliation for your disclosure.
A lot of employers get in trouble because they discriminate, and then when they are called upon it, by the employee filing a complaint with the EEOC, they retaliate by treating the employee worse. That means they just got two allegations filed against them instead of one.
PLEASE talk to a lawyer and see what they say. I used to be a court reporter(the person that bangs on a stenograph machine sitting in front of the witness stand) -- did it for twenty years -- and this kind of stuff happens all the time to employers on EEOC cases. They just make it worse by retaliating.
Full disclosure: Yes, I am a lawyer, I have a Juris Doctor, but I do not practice law nor do I play one on TV.

45. Thank you for your suggestions.
I am getting my HR file on Monday then will file a complaint with the EEOC on-line, and let them initially run with the ball. We'll see where it goes from there.
Thank you again
