Title: Got my 1099R
Post by: Thor on December 21, 2009, 12:51:59 PM
My military retirement 1099 R came the other day. I guess 0bama doesn't care too much about out us disabled military retirees. "No annual cost of living adjustment will be added to retired military pay in 2010" and

"No annual cost of living adjustment will be added to VA compensation in 2010"

Anyways, I figured this was coming. I just HOPE that he takes care of our active duty folks a little better.

his proposed budget for the DoD had the smallest pay raise allowed by law... make of that what you will.

The continental congress refused to pay Washington's army at Valley Forge for six years (yea, I watched Glen Beck today). Why should our military today expect anything better from todays congress? The fact is, most liberals consider the military to be the enemy. If you don't believe me, ask Barbara Boxer who got her panties all tied in a knot when a General referred to her as "Maam" instead of Senator.

The fact is, our serving military and military retirees are underpaid and under appreciated. I simply can not understand why our country isn't shocked by the fact that many active duty military families must apply for public assistance like food stamps in order to survive.

One glimmer of hope is that there are some changes to concurrent receipt of pension and disability. I don't know whether or not I'll be affected by those changes, but the proposed changes would be in my favor. If I am positively affected, then I'd be quite happy.

Quote
The Budget also contains a proposal to expand
concurrent receipt of military retired pay and Veterans
Disability Compensation to all retirees receiving
disability retired pay. Under current law,
the prohibition on concurrent receipt means that
these benefits offset each other so that disabled
military retirees cannot receive full DOD retirement
and Veterans disability payments. When
the offset is removed, disabled military retirees
would receive additional monthly compensation.

without intending even the slightest bit of disrespect to the members and veterans of our armed services, the whole point of a cola is to adjust for inflation.  the current administration is likely justifying this policy on the grounds that our currency is currently experiencing negative inflation. while you could certainly argue that point, or argue that this is merely an excuse that an inherently anti-military administration is using in order to screw over our honored servicemen and -women and our veterans, not issuing a cola during a deflationary period is sound policy.

They should issue a preemptory COLA for the effects that 0Bama's policies are going to have.
