Title: Monday Morning
Post by: thundley4 on December 21, 2009, 08:13:09 AM
Woke up to a covering of snow on the ground and it's cold.  I'm off work until January 2. :)

Still tons of snow on the ground here...school cancelled for today.  We'll see about tomorrow.   I'm stuck at home, as I let Mr Flame take the truck to work.

Supposed to work tomorrow, which will be the last day before Christmas break.  And I just applied for a full-time job with the schools...that perfect job thatI applied for in August and didn't get is open again.  Any positive thoughts in that regard would be appreciated!

Congrats, Thundley.  Enjoy the time off.

We aren't supposed to get our "White Christmas" dusting until Wednesday, though some of the weather liars say tomorrow night.  It isn't as if we don't still have 8 inches of hardened ice in the back yard still (north side of the house) making it 20° cooler out back than it usually is out front.

Oh, and I fired up the barbecue grill for steaks for supper last night. :II:

Not even a hint of snow out here

Three more days of work, then I'm off until after New Years  :cheersmate:  Unfortunately, I expect them to be three very, very busy days.

Enjoy the vacation. Three day work-week and then a week off!

Which means I'll still be working next week... just not on the clock.  :lmao:

23 inches of snow Sat and Sun -- no school today as the side streets are still not cleared so the buses can't run.  Plenty of jerks on the road though; took me almost an hour and a half to get to work which is 20 miles away! :banghead:

Oh and Merry Christmas to all (still trying to cool off from commute . . .)!

I should clarify. I'm not scheduled for work until January 2, but that would not stop them from calling me in. The only way to avoid being called in is to be out of town.  Back before cell phones and when I had dial-up , my boss came to my house on Thanksgiving morning once because he kept getting a busy signal.

Work three days, off 4, then work three days, and off another 4.

Hoping to shovel some of this crap off my desk.

The sun is out and it's 33...but there is no snow and no rain. It's wonderful!

Waiting on a repairman.

Our floor heat system and hot water system are all tied in together and are natural gas heated. We also have a gas heat system on the first floor and an electric heat pump for the upstairs. It is supposed to be very efficient and reduce costs...or so the prior owner told us....

2 weeks ago...a house about 3 - 4 miles up the road....a $1.4 million - 5 yr old home ...blew up in the middle of the night. I'm not talking just having an blow and catching on fire. It was totally obliterated. Windows on neighboring houses were blown out, even the garage doors on the house to one side and across the street. It rumbled so loud that we could hear it and shook our house enough to wake up the other half and my son who thought we were had a small earthquake.

The parents were blown out of the upstairs of the home and found severely injured, but not burned, behind the house. The 18 yo son was in the basement, and it took DNA to determine it was parts of him, and the college daughter had just gone back to the dorm with her best friend a few hours earlier. This has been really tragic...even more so, because they had just had a repairman out a few days before because they smelled gas in the house. He found a very small leak in the fireplace with the gas log system....nothing else. Obviously there was something else.

In my infinite wisdom... :whatever:...I thought we should have ours checked out, as there has always been a natural gas smell when it does it's little exhaust thing every couple of hours. We had been told by a previous repairman that it was "normal". After this tragedy....I wanted to make sure.

The other half calls a company that specializes in boilers and furnaces, but also does regular heat pumps.

The guy got here Friday morning a bit after 9....he was here until about 7...except when he went twice to get parts.

Both of us asked him if he was sure he knew how to work on a system like ours. He said yes, but if he had any questions he had someone he could call.

He did replace a valve and cleaned the systems.

I wrote him an extremely large check when he left.

Our floors won't heat, we have no hot water....it occasionally gets lukewarm. The red light that shows the system is heating has not gone off since Friday evening which is not a good thing.

We called on Saturday...there was to be a "specialist" here first thing this morning.

It's now 11....no repairman...

but there is no smell of gas!!!

Given the circumstances....I'd rather be out of hot water...than have the gas smell.

Please....please....if you have the least bit of smell of natural gas around your home....please call a repairman...have it checked out. It's better to spend a bit of money - even at this time of year....than to have something horrrendously tragic happen.

Sunny here...but in the 50's.  Now is when the weather in S.Florida gets good...I was up early this morning...dropped little one off at grandma's and got to deal with the social security office...YAY..not.

My cousin emailed me photos of her snow covered front yard...Looked like a foot deep, if not more....man, I sort of miss that white stuff..

Foggy this morning here in No. Calif..  Drinking some morning coffee and trying to get my motivation up to hit the grocery...lots of cookin' in the next few days for this gal.  Oh boy!  Think I'll have another cup of Joe before I head out... ;)

Three more days of work, then I'm off until after New Years  :cheersmate:  Unfortunately, I expect them to be three very, very busy days.

Finally got in from Phoenix late-late-late last night.  Not in ANY mood or shape to go into work this morning, and I have one more "family" day, so I'm taking it.  Working Tue-Wed, half-day Thursday, and "normal" schedule (Mon-Thu) next week.

At least there was only 1-2 inches of snow from the storm, but the winds SUCK.  Shoveling out the driveway would be a waste of time.

Got home to find that the person who was supposed to have fed the cats while I was gone, hadn't.  FULL litterboxes, corresponding smell, and NO food for them for probably 2-3 days.  Barely any water for them.  They're now plotting my demise despite loads of treats, wet food, and clean litter boxes.

Picked up Wondermutt from the kennel this morning--at least he doesn't look like a sheep dog anymore.

No real plans for today aside from cleaning and laundry, as well as resting up from the past week.  No plans for X-Mas.

Oh, CR--almost forgot--How YOU doin?   :naughty:

In that case, the passive aggressive bitch in me would surely surface.

Woohoo! Got grades for this semester. 3 A's, 2 B's and a C. The C was in French, which I'll live with since I was expecting to fail.  :hyper:

Managed to hold on to a 3.5 GPA so I'm still graduating with honors.

Sparky, glad you made it home safe. You still have my full sympathy for the loss of your father.

Sorry to hear about the neglected cats.

If we weren't in this wonderful Oconomy, no-brainer the cats.  Now, well...

Actually, wasn't that bad.  And he called me last night to apologize.

Saw your comments on FB?  :uhsure:

Good to know the kitter-kats are ok! We have gotten so we just leave out an abundance of food, and extra water, in different places than just their usual, rather than relying on someone to come in.

Just the one FB post--haven't checked since yesterday, and it's blocked at work.  Hey, at least I left out 3-4 days worth, instead of just one.

We only feed ours dry Iams....I have a "food tower" and a water tower. I started with the towers when I only had 2 cats...then got larger ones when I ended up with 4. I would do a larger water tower, but I think the water gets "stale"....I know it's for cats and they probably don't know the difference....but I do!! :-)
